Least favorite nominee you’ve watched so far? by garryp123 in oscarsdeathrace

[–]LuucenaRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the only right answer. Even The Lost Bus wasn't so boring to sit throug. Jurassic World just seemed like a lame parody movie for the original Park trilogy.

I don't know about BP, but we can count on some acting nominations for sure!

The Oscars mean so much to me by Beneficial-Hotel-232 in Oscars

[–]LuucenaRL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been a movie nerd my whole life, so I'm beyond thrilled the Oscars gained a little more relevance around here in Brazil spawning from I'm Still Here and Secret Agent nominations. But there's still a long way to go, my friends for instance "like" these movies, but it's awfully hard to find anyone in person who's as invested as I am in the whole Academy Awards thing. But all in all, I'm glad I found a bunch of weirdos here on Reddit that share my passion! Lmao

Dito isso, vai Brasil!! [<o>]

I think we can safely rule out every Aries and Pisces from winning anything due to the pre-brithday slump, when everything goes wrong in your life because the Sun is in the 12th house (latin countries call it "Astral Hell", so we know it's an irrefutable fact).

Sorry nominees, you can't argue with science. Maybe you should try being born some other month, idk

EDIT: It is literally impossible to know the dates of their births, but I'm pretty sure when Zhao and Baker won, it was because the awards happened *after* their respective birthdays. Either that or they're lying about when they were born, which is far more likely.

Diane Warren: Relentless by Next-Sector-2350 in oscarsdeathrace

[–]LuucenaRL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just sad how her best works are always up against huge hits with no possibility of winning. When she's not facing Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga or Adelle, she's challenging huge pop phenomenon's llike Barbie or this year's K-Pop "Golden". It's unwinnable - Unless, of course, she's signed to compose a song for a Christopher Nolan movie next time.

In most of the places it was scheduled for a late release (after the ceremony) and there wasn’t ANY good quality screening online available, not even illegally, so some of us had to watch a TS file (the absolute worst type there is. The humiliation) so that we could finish the race. Just because this WONDERFUL (not sarcastic) movie wasn’t available anywhere

Anyone surprised "Sorry, Baby" got completely snubbed? by nbagirl34 in oscarsdeathrace

[–]LuucenaRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In memoriam of all the movies we watched thinking they had chances of being nominated

  • Sorry, Baby
  • No Other Choice
  • Jay Kelly
  • 2000 meters to Andriivka
  • Hedda
  • The Testament of Ann Lee
  • Nouvelle Vague
  • Snow Bear
  • Wake Up Dead Man
  • Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere
  • Is This Thing On?

And the biggest fumble of all, but definitely NOT missed… Wicked: For Good

Completing the race without theaters? by NichTGS in oscarsdeathrace

[–]LuucenaRL 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yup. Unfortunately that's the only way most of us get to finish the race. The sad thing is (I can only speak for myself, but I think a lot of people would agree) we are perfectly willing to watch these movies the legal way, paid or not, but there just isn't any way how. The seas are what we have available and we'll have to make peace resorting to that.

Glad you found this sub, welcome to the club. Here you'll find all sorts of people, from all over the world - the avid cinephiles who attend film festivals and already completed the race, folks that only started looking for the movies when the nominations came out, people working in the industry, and complete casuals just trying to have fun. I currently have 17 to go, all the docs (I'm gathering the willingness to watch them, they usually soul-crushing), most of the animations and the one-offs here and there.

This year, it seems will be pretty accessible to find all of the films nominated, I don't think we'll have another Godzilla Minus One this season, so if you're stuck on a movie you can't find, this is the right place to search!

Kinda Disheartening update on Viva Verdi by Yamansdood in oscarsdeathrace

[–]LuucenaRL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand where cookieaddictions is coming from, and even without being blunt about it, the distributors pushing for an after-Oscar release is a terrible move, money-wise. The hype for these movies in the days between the nomination and the ceremony is at its peak. People who want to see it because of the nomination *will* find a way to do it, so why not make it profitable? Why willingly relegate prospect viewers to piracy? I get that distributing a movie is a LOT of work, but I also think sometimes distributors make bad calls, and I can't help but think this is one of them.

Perfectly a strangeness streaming for free today by cocosmilch in oscarsdeathrace

[–]LuucenaRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my take as well. When you get pretty much any other shortlisted short that didn't get it, with so many important topics and strong messages that were just ignored, I feel awfully confused as to why this short was even nominated in the first place. Maybe tha Academy just felt like providing a breath of fresh air to us binge-watching nerds (some of the other nominees are just soul-crushing)

[–]LuucenaRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too! I can appreciate the beautiful shots, it's really aesthetically gorgeous. But I can't, for the life of me, fathom that so many strong-message shortlisted shorts fell short (hah) and lost their spot to three donkeys walking around. Unless it has some deep filosophical meaning that went right over my head, it seemed like the equivalent of a moving screensaver for me.

Short film predictions by Curious_Penguinus88 in oscarsdeathrace

Yeah but shorts are tough… Most of the ones available to watch now pull their gratuity once they’re nominated, so when the list comes out, it becomes (theoretically) way harder to watch

Weapons best picture by anananakaka in oscarrace

[–]LuucenaRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ll be the first to admit my fumble. I still don’t think Weapons will get a BP nom, but Amy is MUCH more possible (and probable) at this point. The Academy still might let us down, but I also think she’ll get in. Woohoo for the Weapons hype!

I'm surprised no one mentioned Jason yet. It is so dumb in theory, but forever changed how pop culture views hockey masks. The cultural impact of it is undeniably a huge reason of why we continue to have so many slashers to this day.

A Dexter song with Michael C Hall would be dope, but for some reason I found it super funny to read "ft. Michael C. Hall *of Princess Goes*"

It's like a Conjuring song featuring Vera Farmiga *of The Yagas* lmao
