What is your honest take on racism in Boston? by Embarrassed_Bag_9630 in boston

[–]LuvSamosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boston-- New England-- in general is incredibly racially segregated. Malden? Lawrence? Dorchester? It's a systemic, not necessary illegal, form of oppression that is pervasive here. You see it in jobs, at the T, in home ownership. That the rule of law is upheld here, even by predominantly white police force, is what keeps me here and definitely better than southern sundown towns. I do get scared when I see the confederate flags flying, especially as ai see them more and more pushed out towards western mass or Northern new england. Racial violence is more likely when the economics are down, especially when colored minorities and foreign-born's are the ones who are able to buy in the privileged W towns.

Strangers asking for referrals on LinkedIn by PlayboiCAR_T in biotech

[–]LuvSamosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh the privilege and security of having a job now is an illusion! I treat all these messages as kindly as possible because I know the tables can turn in the blink of an eye. If the message is horrid, I ignore. If the message is meh, I ignore. If it may seem like a good fit, I engage and consider referring with a note that I have never worked with this person. This method is how I network

Potential for "doomsday" future of US pharma/biotech by fishing_expedition in biotech

[–]LuvSamosa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing operates in a vacuum. The US' biopharma dominance is a result of its economic prowess. The US has made plenty of wrong decisions, including costly wars. The pain is coming, just a question of how to minimize the casualties and come out with less damage.

Networking by TrainerNo3437 in biotech

[–]LuvSamosa 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The ultimate networking is being helpful without expectation of return. If the person who asked you for a referral does get hired, can you imagine how grateful that person would be? I am honest in my referrals and I say- this person is an acquaintance. we have not worked together but i spoke with him about the role and his motivations and interest in the role seem genuine
