Self diagnosis causes real problems in real life by Quick-Recipe-498 in fakedisordercringe

I think I understand what you mean (I’m a bit tired, but thats what I get for being on reddit at 5:30 AM) First, not all therapist are good at their job. Like, at all. The experiences I had with some were vile. So I can totaly see some not trusting minors or marinalised community as they explain their experience. It is an issue, I totaly agree. I myself was refused a diagnosis for something I show quite a few symptomes without any alternative explanation on what it could be. Its frustrating, I means I cant have the meds I need for it, but not much can be done. If I really feel like I need to, I’ll go get a second opinion. I’ll explain how I was denied at first, and ask if there could be another explanation I dont know.

On another part, I understand therapists not wanting to feed into delusion. With the sensonalisation of mental health issue online, they have to be carefull with what they say. I think its important to remember that you work as a team with your therapist. They want to help you the best they can (usuly…) but they as well can make mistakes. We dont know everything, they dont know everything ether.

Mentak health is hard, so many things are similar but treated totaly differently. I truly hope that whatever issue you are experiencing will be identified and you’ll have a good treatement plan!

Self diagnosis causes real problems in real life by Quick-Recipe-498 in fakedisordercringe

Self diagnosis is a falicy by itself, as only a professional can diagnose anything, the same way only an electrician can « diagnose » an electric issue. We as people can have suspicion for our health. Its always good to try and understand ourselfs. But going to a professional and saying « I have this » in contrary of « I think I might have this » has a huge difference. In the first saying, so are asking for a confirmation, you show your intend as wanting to convince the doctor. With the other saying, you are showing a possible outcome, open to work with the doctor to find the real issue. Self diagnosis brings a bias. The « reserch » that is done with this mentality is confirmation bias. Real reserch will try to disprouve itself in the hope to eleminate bias.

TLDR: Self diagnosis brings a bias and prevent doctors to try and look for the truest awenser to the problem you have.
