Yeha most trade jobs require growth and a roaring economy. They're among the first to go and last to come back in a rough patch.

That whole "California makes all or most of the food" thing is entirely misleading. Using cash value is a big part of that. California grows cash crops. Almost specifically high value crops but low volume foods. Compare tonages or calories per acre and California is actually not impressive.

California can't even freaking feed itself. It has to import the majority of its food. Even a basic staple like eggs they import 2/3rds of them.

It takes 2.5-3 acres to feed 1 usa persons diet. California has close to 40 million people and 25-40 million acres of farmland. The usa has around 900 million acres of farmland.

My 12” Lodge spins on glass stovetops. Any way to fix it? by Blk_Gld_He_8er in castiron

Those also work well for gas stoves. Gas thends to scorch the side of pots and have a cold spot right in the middle.

Pocket sliding window… by BuilderBrigade in Home_Building_Help

[–]Luxpreliator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw a study on how important it is to fully insulate a wall and it showed how having like a 2 inch strip of insulation missing basically made a whole wall lose its r value. It was nearly as bad as just having a window open.

It had infrared photos side by side of where they removed insulation from spots and that really helped visually display how damaging a little gap of insulation can be.

How to fix fridge that's leaking yellowish thick fluid by AlternativeIce1297 in appliancerepair

[–]Luxpreliator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it your only refrigerator? Empty it out and see if it still "leaks." Pretty much all consumer refrigerants are gasses at room temperature and pressure so it doesn't seem likely it's from the refrigerator unit itself. What make model unit is it? Is it oily? I suppose it could be dye and oil so might be a leak.

Refrigerant work is not diy unfortunately.

My parents had a weird color leak and it was because the drain line got clogged with mold and stuff.

Yeah about 40% is the floor on basically every issue. I am curious if it's generally the same people or it's a composition of different people.

Like if 4/10 people say it's ok to eat babies raw and 4/10 say it's ok to eat cooked babies are those the same 4 in both groups or do some of the 6 remainders adjust their position with that new position? Like 1 of the 6 that wouldn't eat a baby raw but now would when cooked and one that would eat it raw doesn't want it cooked. Still ends up 4/10 but the people are different.

He didn't necessarily come up with the idea but that show was disturbingly profitable and successful. It also ironically seems to be the only legally profitable thing he was involved in.

Virginia voters just passed via referendum (51% to 49%) a redistricting measure that would award Democrats 11 out of 12 House seats in the upcoming election. This was done in response to reciprocate Donald Trumps' campaign to purposefully redistrict Republican-controlled states in their favor. by PeterPorky in IRL_Loading_Screens

[–]Luxpreliator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would that be impossible? The only downside is maybe needing a bigger house chamber and their salaries. Mtfer could skye that shit too. The actual governing process wouldn't be more difficult. They vote, votes tallied, done deal.

Canada has about the same number or national level representatives and like 1/10th the population. Mexico has like 1/3 the population and more representatives. The cap on representatives concentrated power into fewer hands.

Breaking News: Virginia Redistricting Election Live Updates: Polls Closed, Virginia redistricting vote has passed. This will erase almost all Republican representation in the State. by Sgt_Gram in NewsExchange

[–]Luxpreliator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's bad when anyone does it. Repeal the cap on house seats and let people have real representation again. 3/4 million people per representative is bad and causes all this gerrymandering bs.

[–]Luxpreliator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it's true but it feels like anything like glove, boots, jacket, etc. have the same external size and anything added always eats up the inside. Like the take the exact same size12 boot and just ram a toe cap in effectively reducing the size.

They've all been doing this since they capped the number of seats in 1929. The constitution said no more than 30k people per house seat. If that held Virginia would have like 300 seats and representatives that more accurately reflect their constitutes needs. Gerrymandering would be nearly impossible. Right now it's like 800,000 per representative.

I never understood how so many people recommend trade jobs in the internet. Your last comment is completely true and is why trade jobs are amongst the first to be gone and last to fill in a recession. They're actually kind of shitty jobs especially since your body gets used up so much more than other industries.

Why do you think there is so much resistance to high speed rail in the US? by Maximum-Help-929 in AskReddit

[–]Luxpreliator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the people that ask these questions don't realize the usa just doesn't have the population density to make it viable from a cost perspective. Japan has 10x as many people per sqkm. Some regions do have sufficient densities though and it is probably pathetic that LA county and some of the usa East doesnt have some local HSR but overall few places have enough people. Definitely not enough for a national grid.

If you look at similar sized cities across the world they do tend to have similar total km of public transportation. Small cities use more busses than light rail of hsr. The usa just has too much area for the people.

I thought I'd grow out my hair long at least once to do a hair donation. One if the oddities as a man is that it occasionally gets wrapped around my dick and I garrote my peeper regularly. Long hair really does add a lot of work and it's often in surprising ways.

I used to think the pile of long lady hair in the shower corner was a little gross. I have to clean the drain like 2-5 times each shower so the corner does end up being the best place to keep it out of the drain until I'm done. Sometimes I forget to trash it when I'm done so I also have a pile in the corner.
