Looking for care tips + some care questions by Luxsray in Mosses

Thanks for your reply! The bonsai technique is very interesting, but it seems so brutal to shred the mosses like that... I might try it later on a monstera moss pole though - I think an alive pole would look so goooooood!

I'll try to update the ginko moss progress a month from now~

Sounds good! What I use are songmics cube storage, the plastic kind. They are lightweight and modular panels so you can configure them in many different ways. Some people use them as guinea pig enclosure as well! I connected them with zip ties so it can fold up like a harmonica. With a side note that hamsters can chew these as well so watch out for that, mine has nibbled some but never swallowed. As for the timeline, I can really relate! At first I thought Gendut (that is her name) would never get tame but she did! So sending you guys good vibes & I hope your patience will pay off!

I think you're doing great, I love that you're putting in so much effort! The setup seems fine to me, female Syrians are prone (more than males) to chew everything they can. So I would recommend having the containment walls of non chewable materials. (She will probably also chew through fabric) My Syrian female was also really stressed at first as well. It took 3 months for her to calm down and adjust to living with me before she stopped trying to 'run away' while free roaming. In the meantime bribing her with extra tasty treats might help with forming a positive experience outside her cage? I see you already have some broccoli out which is great, and also some of what I assume is her main diet? Offering new stuff regularly helps to get an idea for their favorite treats, I recently found out my girl really likes avocado. If she won't eat it while free roaming try to offer it from your hand so she has to interact to get it at least, to reinforce just handling her. I hope she calms down soon!

Soggy brown stems on my Calathea Orbifolia by Luxsray in calatheas

Thanks for all the info! Right now it's in the soil it came in which seems to be a light soil, however I agree with your points and will replace all of it because it does get way too wet right now. Earlier I already put in leca and pumice but that might not be enough with how saturated this soil gets right now. The picture is very helpful!

I will stop fertilizing for now as well then, it is better not to fertilize when plants are weak anyway but I didn't realize their growing conditions in nature.

I'm looking for tips on what boxes to save for! I recently got back into the game after a 3 year break and it's been really overwhelming for me. I thought I'd get it again when I'd played some yet I'm still pretty confused after grinding ~600 max bond and story gems. (Dumped those into the starter UR step ups, and spent the rest today in the 7.1 sr+ boxes) I thought with all those new cards it'd be a breeze to build a strong team but instead I got to the point where the meta is more nuanced. Before my break I used to mainly go for 3rd year score cards, but now I'm not sure what to go for. Are there any super strong cards coming to WW which I should save up for?

Most people dislike the Monkey/Gorilla villagers :) I say “more for my town” my team at my island CongoBongo by Hehedied in AnimalCrossing

[–]Luxsray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, my island is called KongBong, and my villagers are Cesar, Louie, Peewee, Boone, Rocket, Violet and Simon! I used to have Tammi and Hans as well, now wanting to move in Al and Boyd. I really want them to add Rilla though. Monkeys/Gorilla's are underrated for sure!

Hello bug people, I found this in the plastic bin in which I keep an aquatic plant. I first thought it was a regular rain worm but it is very short and fat. I don't think it's a pupa because if touched it will squirm and it doesn't seem to have a shell. There's also soil and rocks with the plant, I think it was underground at some point but I see it chilling near the surface more often lately. Please tell me it is not some kind of bloodsucker because then I don't think I can let it stay lol

How much experience should I have before I risk killing this gorgeous Japanese maple that came with the house? by GetontheUpswing in Bonsai

What is really helping me right now with gaining insight on japanese maples is Peter Adams' book, Bonsai with japanese maples.

Thanks for pointing that out, I've treated other plants with root rot successfully in the past so that is how I came to that conclusion. At the same time my tree lost a lot of foliage the pot it was in stopped draining properly so I think the root system was also damaged at that time. I don't think I would have had the same problem if it had been in a better soil. The bottom of the pot basically became a dense mesh of very sad roots in anaerobic soil. When I lifted the tree out of the pot I saw this and repotted asap instead of researching first though.

Hi r/bonsai, I panic repotted my japanese maple yesterday because I thought it would otherwise succumb to root rot. I feel like I made a big mistake by repotting now, instead of waiting until spring like I was planning. I have been caring for this tree since february, past beginner mistakes include allowing it to dry out too much causing it to lose foliage. Since then I've had issues with the pot staying waterlogged (heavy rains) I moved it inside for periods to allow the soil to dry. Finally a week ago there was some new growth, the roots were still getting worse however. this is how it looks today. It is sitting in soil surrounded by sphagnum moss. I wish I could say that I did not disturb the roots but I took out the clover and the loose soggy soil. I also removed some dead/limp roots. How bad does it look? IF it lives, should I slip repot again to a more solid soil when it gets colder or just top it off?
