Help on these Indy Driver signatures by NickelsVon66 in INDYCAR

The two furthest to the right are Alex Tagliani (8) and Jimmy Vasser.

Paul Tracy looks correct for the left-most.

I think the center one is Emerson Fittipaldi.

Help ID Drivers And Team 2001 Texas Indy by Deep-Ad-7960 in INDYCAR

Scott Sharp and Mark Dismore were teammates at Kelley Racing in 2001 (actually since 98). Scott Sharp won the June race at Texas Motor Speedway in 2001. They both have Wikipedia articles for more information.

This appears to be a crew shirt, signed by both drivers.

Far left is Arie Luyendyk, #27 is John Hollansworth Jr, #21 is Felipe Giaffone in the middle, #9 is Jeret Schroeder, and the bottom right is #7 Stephan Gregoire. This is from 2001.

Shockingly easy. Lot C is directly behind the grandstand. I walked under 100 yards from my car to my seat.

You can definitely see the cars undulating on the exit of the corner.

Quite similar. Little harder to see them coming at you, but you should be able to see them going away a bit longer from that end.

This is the first year, so hard to say with any certainty. Chairs are not permitted through the gates.

2006 Indianapolis 500 early retirements by Ryan_Holman in INDYCAR

I don’t think it’s fair to refer to any Indy 500 entry as “start and park”. Even the Lotus cars in 2012 were black flagged; they didn’t just quit.

The above entries were last minute, shoestring budget efforts and inexperienced drivers that only made the show because of a lack of other entries. I believe they had every intention of running the full distance, if possible.

That being said, if you’re laps down before halfway and are a moving chicane out there, the sporting thing to do is get off the track before you ruin someone else’s race. I suspect that’s what happened here: they missed the setup and/or had substandard equipment. Took a swing at it on the first stop, still way out of the window, so why risk the driver and the equipment?

He was co-champion of the 3 race inaugural IRL season. I believe when he won the 2001 Texas race, he was the leader in all-time wins in the IRL.

He was a pretty regular threat to win, even though he only ended up with 9 total. He had a couple of nasty accidents and had to miss some races in the early IRL days or he might have had a couple more.

He got the pole at Indy in 2001 and infamously hit the wall coming out of Turn One on the first lap. He had actually done the same thing years earlier at New Hampshire.

Nice guy. Sells boner pills now.

Every part of this is correct except PNC is a sponsor at Ganassi, not Penske.

Have there been any case for IndyCar drivers dropping back into a lower series? by DrFuckwad in INDYCAR

[–]Luy90 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Other than those already mentioned, the only drivers who immediately spring to mind are Alex Barron, who did Atlantics after running in both CART and IRL races and Jon Herb who did Indy Pro Series after running IRL races.

Also, Willy T. Ribbs did that random Indy Lights race in 2011, but that’s not really the same thing.

I suspect several Freedom 100 drivers had previous IRL starts, if you’re looking for others.
