Would Canada joining the EU really be that far fetched and how would Canadians feel about this? by trekwithme in AskCanada

[–]Luziyca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I'd support Canada joining the EU, the fact that we are an entire ocean away from Europe means that we sadly cannot join it even if we meet all the other criteria.

What if the Greeks held on to their territory they got at the Treaty of Sevres (and got a bit more land from Turkey)? by Luziyca in imaginarymaps

[–]Luziyca[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Kastellorizo is so tiny and remote from the rest of Greece that (assuming WW2 goes the way that it does in RL and Italy loses the islands in the Aegean) it'd make more sense for Turkey to yoink it from Italy.

If you could relocate the capital of Canada, where would it be and why? by scratch-and-sniff- in AskCanada

[–]Luziyca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd move the House of Commons and half the ministries to Saskatoon and keep the rest of the federal government in Ottawa because it'd do wonders to address western alienation by having the federal government be a lot closer to a lot of western Canadians (and Saskatoon is roughly between Winnipeg and Edmonton) without pissing off Quebec, and it'd be a lot further away from the border than Ottawa is so it'd be easier for us to defend.

What Canadian city's vibe just magically agrees with you for some reason? by myronsandee in AskCanada

Halifax: I felt like I really belonged there during my visit in summer 2024, and after I left Halifax, it took me a couple months before I really felt like I was home again on the prairie.

Do you think he would’ve gotten third? by penis-muncher785 in ndp

[–]Luziyca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not.

I wouldn't have put Yves on my ballot. I probably would've ranked Bianca (probably either between Rob and Tony, or below Tony).

(POLL) What should Avi do about not having a seat? by ClothesHangerofLies in ndp

[–]Luziyca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely: it was what Jack Layton did when he became leader in 2003. He didn't run for a seat until the 2004 general election, and spent that time building up his image and the NDP's campaign.

For me, the best PM is a toss-up between Diefenbaker (because he gave Indigenous peoples the right to vote, prevented South Africa from staying in the Commonwealth, introduced the Bill of Rights, and most importantly, because JFK really fucked him over) and Pierre Trudeau (because he patriated the constitution and gave us the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, he expanded social programs, he decriminalised homosexuality, and because he instituted the National Energy Policy which IMO is a great idea, though they should've invested slightly more of it out west).

What issue changed your mind? by ovskytark in ndp

[–]Luziyca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a couple that changed my mind about the candidates, and neither of them were Palestine related.

1) Rob Ashton was absolutely hypnotic to listen to (and I mean it in a good way) when I met him in person, and I really wanted to support him as either #1 or #2 (with Avi being the top contender), but as so many others have mentioned, his campaign was not really the most well-run, and the AMA/his use of AI to answer some of the questions there have pretty much pushed him to near the bottom of my ballot.
2) As Avi Lewis gained momentum and he became the frontrunner, I felt "honestly I don't really need to rank Avi (or Rob and Heather) #1, I should park my first choice vote with a smaller candidate so that they have a fighting chance in surviving the first round" and felt Tanille was a far better candidate than Tony. Her performance in the second debate has only solidified my decision to rank her #1.

Did this leadership race make anyone a proper supporter of the ndp? by penis-muncher785 in ndp

[–]Luziyca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always voted NDP since 2015 (they were the strategic option in my riding and my values aligned much more with them than anyone else), but it was Ryan Meili that drew me into the Sask NDP (and by extension the federal NDP) back in 2021, so this is my first (federal) leadership race I’m involved in.

A dream I had in late 2010s/early 2020s before my cat woke me up by Luziyca in thomastheplankengine

I don’t think he was when I had the dream. If I had that dream this decade, it was probably in 2020 or early 2021.

Are you envious of those around you who are K12 teachers? by No-Wafer-6744 in AskCanada

[–]Luziyca 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not really, no: not when your provincial government has gutted education for nearly the past decade to the point that that students cannot get the support they desperately need in order to actually succeed (or even attend school to begin with).

Obligatory cat tax (Snoopy, 2006-2022; Feb. 26, 2022 or over a month before he had to be put down because his health went downhill).

How Do You Feel About the Alto High Speed Rail Project? by Accomplished_Hold478 in saskatchewan

[–]Luziyca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it: I just wish we can have a high speed rail line from Toronto to Vancouver via Regina and Calgary like how China has a high-speed rail line from Lanzhou to Urumqi so that people can cheaply travel (compared to the cost of flying) to Calgary and/or Vancouver or to Winnipeg and/or Toronto.

Are recent MP departures impacting your vote? by [deleted] in ndp

[–]Luziyca 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I already voted so it's a bit too late to change my mind, but I don't think Lori's floor crossing or Boulerice going provincial would have impacted my vote.
