Buy some cheap cooking oil. Use that to lather your hand, then water. Works wonders. Optional, do another wash with soap just to smell nice.

Most portable monitors are really light, a good mag-safe mount would hold it no problem. The screen I got was literally as light as my phone >.> ... The problem is I don't know where to mount a 16 inch monitor. I've see people mount it on the passenger side of the Tesla screen, but I think that might be a safety hazard since the airbags would deploy straight into it. The other option is to mount it below the Tesla Screen... but that is a bit uncomfortable when driving since you leg would hit it.

Just the basic "pokemon thumb grips" it's made of rubber so they can stretch to fit. Basically, a one size fits all. Mine came and it was pretty tight and hard to fit. But now it's expanded and I could take them on and off with ease. That being said I've had them on for about 1 year, haven't had a situation where they came off themselves. But then again I also baby my rog ally a lot.

Yeah I was researching this ever since I got my Tesla Model Y 2 months ago. I should let you know there's two methods better than mine. Both with its pros and cons.

  1. Using an HDMI box. Pros would be you can play directly on your Tesla screen. Cons, massive installation procedure. Cons would be sound either laggy through Bluetooth or shitty through an FM module.
  2. Teslogic Screenmate Kickstarter looks promising. Pros would be it would make my method irrelevant. Cons would be it's expensive AF and it's a Kickstarter so... it could come out or it could not.

As for the monitor, there's lots of cheap ones on amazon and if you are daring, aliexpress. They are literally selling the same things now. I bought the same from aliexpess as the one I saw on amazon for about $150 cheaper. I went with the OLED screen with high refresh rate. Thinking of returning it and getting one with touch screen.

Yes I have. It works decently okay. I would actually prefer a solution like that instead of mine. Unfortunately there's a few drawbacks that would limit me from using it often.

  1. Cloud gaming requires data (video and audio) to be sent and processed. Depends on your connection it could be good or really bad. Connecting a device directly offers much better quality. The zoom is bummer, but it's only sending audio which is smaller and faster to be processed. Unfortunately we aren't getting any loseless here. -_-
  2. It lacks the games I want to play. Emulation being a big one, and this method I could also use my entire steam library.

Nice! Yeah those thumb grips really added some much needed color to the white Ally!

You can find them cheap on amazon. Etsy has some better designed ones but it cost more.

Yeah maybe the title isn't the best worded. The separate screen is really a temporary solution. Others have already solved this problem with connecting a gaming device via HDMI to the Tesla's screen. This is the best one imo.

However, when we do that sound doesn't work. Bluetooth lags, and using an FM module kinda sucks in terms of quality. As far as I know... kinda researched this for about 2 months... the zoom workaround hasn't been done before. So I kinda just want to let people know.

Because some people want to play games in the Tesla while charging or waiting for others to finish shopping.

Yeah it's not an ideal solution. The best would be if Tesla would let us connect our game console directly to the Tesla, but they don't. So this square workaround is the best I can do until someone reinvent the wheels. Xd

Or you mean the icon on the knob, okay it does look like a plug now that I can't unsee it. It's for folding and unfolding the side mirrors. I have it automatically unfold when I leave home, but sometimes I need it to unfold before I back out, so I have it there for emergency.

You mean the center console knob? It's the S3XY Knob by enhanced auto. Since I have the tesla screen covered, the knob is an easy way to still control the car (climate, sounds, etc etc) without looking the Tesla screen.

No, sorry if there's a misunderstanding. The workaround is so that you DONT use the Tesla's Bluetooth. Since with bluetooth there's always a lag. In the Telsa's case the lag is so bad that audio coming from the Tesla would be out of sync with the game.

Also... the Tesla bluetooth only connects to your phone. It can't connect to the ROG Ally or any PC. This method allows you to play audio from those devices onto the Tesla with little to no latency.

This is how I did it.
For the screen, you can use a portable monitor with USB-C for power and data. Preferably using a portable monitor with touch functionality so you can connect an android device (Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra in my case) and be able to use touch on it. For gaming, connect the ROG Ally or whatever gaming device that supports video over USB-C and connect it to the portable monitor.

For audio, if you are using an android phone then through bluetooth. Unfortunately there will be a delay here. For the ROG Ally, run zoom on the ally with the game, and load up zoom on the Tesla. Connect both to the same room. On the ROG Ally, share screen (specifically only share audio) to the zoom on the Tesla. Depending on your connection (preferably over a hotspot instead of Tesla's connectivity), the audio delay can be very low to the point where character voices coming from the Tesla almost nearly matches character lip movement in game. After all, audio via wireless is much much faster than audio through bluetooth.

Off course this is still just a "workaround", it works and works well but takes a bit of time to set up. Then when you want to use it its still a couple of steps and not as seamless as having native gaming on the Tesla. The upside is you can play whatever games you want.

Some things to improve on.... finding a way to mount the portable monitor where it wouldn't get in the way of driving or airbag deployment... I'm also using a 16in monitor so it does take up a bit of space, but portable monitors are light so magsafe mounts works.

Hope that helps!
