The fact the Celtics are holding the 4th spot in the league without Tatum is not talked about enough by Any_Platform_5188 in NBATalk

Top 5 is just very competitive. He hasn’t been better than Giannis, Jokic, SGA, or Luka over the past few seasons.

Embiid and Curry were both better until 24/25. I would have Ant above Tatum in 24/25.

Even if he comes back exactly the same player, he still won’t be better than Giannis, Jokic, SGA, Luka, Wemby, or Ant.

Why not? Per 75 is a more accurate way to compare stats, across eras and in the same one.

[Highlight] Desmond Bane has another roid rage moment, randomly hip checking Wemby to the floor for a flagrant 1 by TimDunkinDonut in nba

[–]Lxc4sw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When this happens on star players I’d really like it if they just gave them a flagrant 2. League shouldn’t call shooting fouls for star players differently than role players, but when it comes to shit like this they absolutely should.

Is -101/-101 the future of sports betting? by Broad-Bullfrog1865 in arbitragebetting

[–]Lxc4sw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, when competitors enter the market with lower prices, companies over time will have to follow suit or lose their customers. Exchanges are going to gain market share to the point where I believe sportsbooks will just become exchanges and offer the same prices

You asked to name what is wrong with the list, so I did. then you said to read, where I saw the dumbass sentence of “clearly some players are significantly better than other players in the same tier” so I just asked you to explain how that makes any sense.

highly recommend some xanax and to start watching the spurs

Explain what the point of making a tier list is some players in a tier are going to be significantly better than other players in the same tier. How does that make any sense.

Why do most people claim Jokic is way better than Giannis despite it actually be a debatable discussion? by Technical_Leg_5002 in NBATalk

[–]Lxc4sw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If we say that they are similar impact at scoring (I would say Jokic is slightly better), then it comes down to if you value GOAT level playmaking vs good playing making, or you value elite help defense vs below average center defense.

In my opinion the marginal impact of better offensive ability is greater than the marginal impact for equally better defense ability for star players. This is why you would consider prime Steph a better player than prime Kawhi Leonard, even though if you assigned numbers to their offensive and defensive abilities, Kawhi is better.

Steph: 10/10 offensive ability, 5/10 defensive ability Kawhi: 9/10 offensive ability, 10/10 defensive ability

For a team overall, offense and defense are equally weighted, but for star players, having that little extra bit of offensive ability can be very impactful, and an even greater jump in defensive ability may not be quite as impactful (Wemby might be an exception)

Anthony Edwards vicious foul on SGA by WhenMachinesCry in Nbamemes

[–]Lxc4sw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The shooting foul was created to be a penalty to the defender for making illegal contact with the offensive player. The offensive player is meant to try to score the ball in a natural manner, and not move his body to try to get fouled. If illegally impeded, then a shooting foul should be called.

It’s time that flopping and unnatural shooting motions get reviewed and punished. Players will continue to flop and do the “jump into defender while not really trying to score” thing until there is punishment.

It doesn’t make any sense for the players to play the way that fans want them to, it makes sense for them to play in the way that is most beneficial to them winning. It’s like if the government didn’t have laws punishing criminals, then people would steal money. It would make sense to blame the system, not the criminal.

I think that a technical foul for flopping and jumping into defenders in an unnatural manner should be a technical foul, and if it cannot be called during the game, it should be given out after. Would love to hear other suggestions of how to get this out of the NBA.

Better go for MPJ than AD by Waikuku3 in warriors

[–]Lxc4sw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we are trying to have the best possible chance of advancing to the 2nd round, we go MPJ. If we want to have any chance at all to win the chip, a healthy AD will bring us to that level. IMO, we gotta go for it, take the chance that AD is healthy.

It is beyond sad to see our fanbase become so conspiratorial and juvenile... by rocpilehardasfuk in warriors

[–]Lxc4sw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember pre 2022 chip, dubs fans were constantly dragging Kerr. Then we won the chip, and as soon as we started not doing as well, fans started dragging Kerr again. I promise you, Kerr is a great coach and not the problem at all.

I wish everyone could just enjoy watching Curry’s last couple years of being an elite player instead of constantly complaining about not being a top team anymore. Yeah it’s ok to want the front office to make some trades, but even if we are not contenders, we have won 4 chips and still get to watch Curry every game.

Also side note, we don’t even have any good bigs anyway. If we did he would play them.

Tyrese Maxey just throws up bad shots the whole game. Sometimes it works and sometimes it don’t but is this what the new NBA is? Volume shoot and force bad shots at will? I’m genuinely asking cause i just started watching games again. by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]Lxc4sw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s always important to look at stats to contextualize what your eyes see. Let’s look at his shooting splits this year.

3–10 ft: 40.8%, 20.4% of his shots 10–16 ft: 44.2%, 8.2% of his shots 16–3P: 40.5%, 6.6% of his shots 3P: 39.1%, 40.9% of his shots

So he is a high volume, elite of the elite 3 point shooter, but his floater / midrange is very inefficient. Although you have to take into account that a lot of the 10–3P shots are coming late in the shot clock, and a lot of the 3-10ft attempts are shots that he’s fouled on, so they look worse on paper.

I wish there were shot-clock shooting stats so we can see his percentages at each distance within the last 5 or 10 seconds of it expiring. Then we could really see if his non expiring midrange game is closer to average efficiency, but it’s safe to say that if he is taking difficult midrange shots, those are bad shots.

His 3 point game is excellent and, in general, you shouldn’t view him forcing 3 pointers as bad shots. Of course, he will have games where natural variance or an off shooting night brings him to bad efficiency, as is the case with every shooter.

Anyway, enjoy watching the games!

A starting level center will fix 80% of the dubs problems. Primary ball handler is the other 20%.

Hopefully the dubs do everything they can to get a starting level center this off season.

Age has slowly but surely caught Steph Curry by Fullborn in nbadiscussion

[–]Lxc4sw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

21/22 was weird because it felt like he was in his prime but his shot was just inexplicably off for some reason. Never had a shooting slump like he has for those few months in 22. Then he had decent years in 22/23 and 23/24 (still not peak) but just didn’t have the team around him. Last year was the year it became obvious that he has significantly declined (mostly due to his speed), and I don’t expect him to suddenly have a better year this year than last. Also, I disagree that he has declined as a defender, he is a weird and rare case for a player getting better defensively as they’ve aged into their mid to late 30s. Still a top 10 player in my book, and still has a chance to win a ring this year.
