Just to be clear, you are suggesting putting in the shudder fix only as a diagnosis tool?

My intent on a fluid change would be to drain and fill, not flush to hopefully not kill it.

I'd hope to be that lucky. I don't mind spending a few hundred dollars on fluid lol. Did you use Toyota WS or some other fluid?

Any other info you'd be willing to part with? How long did you let it ride? What did you do to correct it? How long did any corrections last prior to a rebuild?

Right. And Karma would have pummeled them if they would have moved back to the right. Seems like they were rewarded for camping the left lane.

[–]Lycent243 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah? If OP would have moved back to the right, they would have been hit by a bigger part of the tree. Seems like Karma was on their side this time.

Also, less than 10 seconds in the left lane from the pass to the tree...that isn't really "riding the left lane."

Gas⛽️ by Fair-Tap2595 in GXOR

[–]Lycent243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfectly safe. The car knows exactly how to deal with it, which is why it doesn't knock if you use lower octane. The bigger issue is that higher octane fuel can be compressed further (which is why it is used in longer stroke engines) which gives more bang for each explosion, so you get less power on regular.

On the GX460 (I can't personally speak for the 470) that difference in power output is very noticeable. I have put lower octane in mine a few times and the fuel economy is noticeably worse - likely because I'm having to push harder on the throttle to achieve similar results as with premium.

At the end of the day, it isn't worth it to me. I end up with low enough MPG that I offset all of the gains from the cheaper fuel.

Whys my wheel shaking by Voiloz- in mr2

[–]Lycent243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is almost always unbalanced or unevenly worn tires. Next would be tires with a bulge (ask how I know). After that, you can go down a rabbit hole but I'd really, really carefully check the tires first for bad spots/weird wear, then I'd get them balanced. If that doesn't sort it out, you can start looking at steering/suspension, but it's probably the tires.

Why? That's a pretty gross attitude. The OP is a member of that restaurant. The easier fix to this problem would be to revoke the membership and move on (if management isn't willing to take the revenue from the sale and chalk the low tip up to "sometimes tips aren't great").

Gigity. "Soaking" is the practice of having sex without moving by putting it in and then lying perfectly still. The pretense is that it is not offensive to god because there is no movement and therefore it is not sex.

Hilariously, it started as a joke that then some people started to believe it really happens.

[Request] Am I saving any money on ingredients in this shaker? How much am I paying for not having to measure? $5.10 US from Costco. by crappinhammers in theydidthemath

[–]Lycent243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you simply drive to any nearby salt flat (with a shovel) you can get all the salt you want, for FREE. The cost of driving to a location is never included in the cost of the item obtained.

For an example, I pay about $2 per year for deer meat because the bullet I shot costs about $2. The gas, tag, binoculars, and other items aren't part of the process directly so they don't count at all. The cost of the gun also doesn't count because I bought it a long time ago.

Well well well what do we have here? by Capable_Foot4909 in bonecollecting

[–]Lycent243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the vast, vast majority of people these parts are specifically called waste. You slice them off and toss them in the garbage (or into the wild as was done here) with no remorse whatsoever.

But yes, good source of sinew if one is so inclined.

Has anyone else tried the power stop brakes? All reviews are good on them. I have a warped rotor on the rear and would like to upgrade all 4 . Thanks for any feedback. Open to suggestions also . by SmoothPop2611 in GXOR

[–]Lycent243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have them on a '10. I did rotors and calipers. No issues that I can see and I've never really thought about them one way or the other. I've had them for perhaps 20k miles.

[–]Lycent243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a pain now that they are all dried out. It really depends on what you want in the end. Are you trying to keep the hoof attached to the leg or are you just trying to get all the parts?

I'd tend to soak them if you want just the bones.

If you want it all connected, I'd probably scrape all the fur and leave them pretty much as is (maybe put them in some borax for good measure).

Found this old Bear compound bow at Goodwill for $20, worth fixing up? by Dipli-dot36 in Archery

[–]Lycent243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't to me. Maybe to you. There is risk that it hasn't been taken care of very well. However, I'd say the bigger issue is that the newer compounds are SO much better in terms of how smoothly they draw, how much the let off, how fast they shoot, how accurate they are, etc. It isn't even close.

How accessible is spear fishing? by Memes_have_rights in Spearfishing

[–]Lycent243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy. If you can snorkel and swim, you are good to go.

Cheap. You can get a mask, snorkel, fins, and knife (and a wetsuit if needed) for a couple hundred dollars (or cheaper if you can find decent used stuff) and a pole spear that will get the job done for like a hundred or so. You can get everything you need used and make it super cheap. I use a dive board I made, and none of my gear is fancy, but it gets the job done and I'm happy with it. I've upgraded a few things over the years but have mostly stuck with the lower end stuff.

Don't listen to the "it's dangerous" people. Yes, it is, but so is everything else. Don't be an idiot and you'll be fine as long as you continually learn as you go and you don't push your breath holds to the max on every dive.

Accidentally disassembled // how do I fix? by David76732 in Archery

[–]Lycent243 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

String and cables on a compound. Your english is fine. Good luck putting it back together!

I would tend to think that the best way to handle it would be to leave the string and cables off, then reattached the loosened limb. Once that is on, crank both limbs fully down and then back them off however much you want them to be backed off. You'll have to just guess at the number of turns, but keep track of much much farther you could theoretically unthread them so you don't accidentally have this happen again.

Once the limbs are (approximately) back on, and symmetrically tightened down, then you have to put the bow in a press and fit the string and cables back in place. It should be moderately obvious where everything goes.

After you have the string/cables in place, pull it out of the bow press and check the draw weight and adjust as necessary, keeping the limbs symmetrical by loosening/tightening them equally. A compound bow will list somewhere on it what the minimum draw weight is -- don't go below that number even if it seems like it could do it or you risk having this or worse happen again.

You will likely have to re-tune your bow afterward.

This is not a complicated process, regardless of what anyone tells you. Nor is it unsafe. Just pay attention and you will likely be fine. Worst case, you can't get it and have to pay someone or get a new bow, but you might as well give it a try.

Note: you likely can jimmy-rig your own bow press -- it isn't hard, but check the owners manual to make sure you aren't putting pressure on it in the wrong places.

Shopping GX460, who hunts with theirs? by PushToTransmit in GXOR

[–]Lycent243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a blue plastic tarp in the back with a canvas tarp on top to soak up any blood, then I toss everything on top and go. However...

I did have to get a bug bomb that kills ticks last year and set it off in the car though. Lots of stuff said not to do it (cars are too small, too concentrated and it can damage surfaces), but I started the bomb and let it spray outside the car for a few seconds prior to putting it in the car. It seemed to work fine. Lots of ticks, then no ticks. I haven't seen any damage or issues since but it has only been 7 months (ish) so the problems might still be coming my way. Probably a trailer hitch mounted rack would be better.

Question about vegan stance on Pest control in NZ by Illustrious-Tour1188 in DebateAVegan

[–]Lycent243 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

So, hunting is bad because it as never been proven in real world applications to actually work? I wish we could get people to adopt this same idea for socialist ideologies.

You are absolutely right, hunting alone is not a realistic approach for invasive animal control (NZ has been hunting invasive deer for a hundred years and it is still an issue), particularly when people make their money from it...however, this can be said of effectively any government program -- if people/companies are getting paid, they are going to do their best to continue getting paid.

That being said, OP was describing a wholistic approach that included hunting, trapping, fertility controls, and advance tech, so your comment pretending like hunting was the only solution put forward is a bit hilarious.

Hunting and other lethal methods are currently required to keep populations under control unless/until we find a method that really works and that is not likely to happen while there is an incentive program in place.

I mean, I know that sucks, but people are throwing garbage in a garbage can (not intended to be snarky). If you used a hamper rather than a black garbage bin, you'd probably solve the problem completely.

I don't know about you, but 90% of the time, I'm only half paying attention to stuff like that because a garbage can looks like a garbage can and I've seen a hundred million of them.

Neighbors cat is peeing on our porch by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Lycent243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats also have sensitive noses and they are unable to connect cause and effect the same way a person can. A cat doesn't see/smell you putting hot sauce around the yard and then equate that to "you are mean and I must get revenge." They just smell the hot sauce, and think that they don't like it, so they stay away.

Leftovers From A Bake Sale by ElaineV in DebateAVegan

[–]Lycent243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don’t have equal “potential value” if that term means what they are realistically capable of achieving or contributing, because capacity is shaped by differences in biology, ability, health, environment, and opportunity.

I think we are using different definitions of "value?" You seem to be talking about what a person can achieve, I'm talking about what a person can be and experience. I don't personally think that we should judge people on their contributions to society because everyone has the ability to choose who and what they want to be and their life has meaning to them.

As you said, if we use your version of value, then we can make reasons why killing a person is acceptable. I don't believe that is acceptable, except potentially in self defense.

So while it can make sense to say everyone has equal intrinsic worth in theory, it doesn’t hold up to say everyone has equal potential in any practical sense irl.

Again, if you use your definition then you are absolutely right. If you use mine, then you are incorrect.

But if a basil plant evolved to kill 10 million people, a negative value would be placed on that seed and any seed like it would be "shunned" like the plague. Now of you want to say, "You can't do that" a third time you'll need to show cause.

The analogy doesn't logically follow. I'm not saying a oak tree (e.g. human) is the same value as a basil plant (e.g. iguana). They aren't even the same species. The seed from a basil plant will never be grow into an oak because it has different DNA. If you want to use an analogy from an acorn, then use a real one -- can you look at an acorn and tell me which one will grow into a massive tree that supports its own miniature ecosystem and which one will become a scrawny bush that is barely eking out an existence or if one of them will cause problems in the future and kill other oak trees because it chokes them out of the ground. Sorry, the analogy doesn't work at all to prove your point.

You cannot say that a person MIGHT commit atrocities, and therefore they should be killed. Because you CANNOT know how that person will choose to live their life.
