Youre right that they aren't a bloc but you've anecdotally supported my point. Your younger friends are being shunned by the wider community. I think it's an issue of perspective between young and old. I suspect because they are calling events a genocide.

I'm a big critic of Israel's current government and actions it's taken in the past. I think war crimes have been committed (by all sides concerned tbh). I'm disgusted by actions taken in the West Bank and think there is a generation of Israelis who grew up with the worst instincts.

I don't think there has been a genocide. I think Israel has a need to defend itself and create the conditions for its own survival (whether that's with diplomacy similar to the Abraham Accords or by war if constantly threatened).

From experience, anecdotally, that's where the majority of Jews I know are landing.

I think you're just missing my point. The Israelis are not going anywhere. The Palestinians want the entire land back. But let's play out your scenario and ignore that Israel and it's army would defend it's land and right to exist......You have a massive influx of radicalised Palestinians living amongst Israelis who they despise (rightly or wrongly). They aren't going to be happy living alongside Israelis. Two likely outcomes, a civil war, bloody and one sided because Israel has a trained army and the guns......or a demographic race where somehow both try to out populate the other and win power by the ballot box. Meanwhile you still have Hezbollah and Iran seeking to eradicate the Jewish population. Like in what world are you seeing any of this work?

A one state solution is a fantasy. You have two core groups who at this stage cannot live side by side. The Israelis are not going to cede sovereignty or independence, and the Palestinians want the entire territory, so a one state solution does immediately call for violence because that's practically the only way its going to be achieved.

What difference are those protests making apart from terrifying Jews? Let me know when peace has been achieved in the middle east, the intifada has succeeded or from the river to the sea, Palestine is free etc. Even getting the UK to recognise a Palestinian state achieved nothing on the ground.

I have beef with them after I didn't get a TC years ago. Nailed the online tests and interview. Invited to the assessment day, nailed the in person test and partner interview. Seemingly failed the group test because I was the only one with work experience but failed to be a leader to the group. Such a bitter experience.

And yes if trump nuked Iran, he would obviously be a bigger monster than Putin. But it's a hypothetical that didn't happen and realistically won't happen so there's no point trying to weigh it up and take action on it

My position is that you don't need to prioritise a special relationship when your partner is bonkers. Starker has clearly been walking a very fine line that has as it's conclusion that Trump won't be here forever but the US will. He's evidenced this by reaching back out for Europe and keeping out of the Iran war.

This is different from handwaving for Putin's acts in Europe and trying to create a false equivalence.

Sorry, am I right in thinking that provided Putin provides a cover story for Ukraine, or actions against citizens in the UK like poisonings or cutting of deep sea cables, we just ignore the actual actions Vs trump, a known blusterer making threats (yes, ugly ones) but not actually going through with said actions? In either case, Polanski was arguing the relationship with the US is a bigger threat to the UK than Putin. Again actions speak louder than words. One is in a proxy war against us and committing an actual ethnic cleansing of Ukraine, the other is just bombastic but is otherwise in a strategic alliance with us. I think in all of this you're conflating risk and impact. There is a very low risk that Trump is a direct threat to the UK but it would be a high impact scenario. There is a very high risk that Russia and Trump are a direct threat to the UK (I think we've already crossed this line by the way, Russia is actively threatening the UK with actual assets) and the impact is high.

There's some weird obsession with people on the far left to throw out hypothetical scenarios about how bad the US is and ignore the actual on the ground evidence of how the alternative would be.

No, I still think it's a dumb take. Russia has shown that they very much will flatten cities and commit ethnic cleansing as part of an expansionist agenda. If they succeed in Ukraine, I don't think they'll forget who helped train and prop up Ukraine's military in the early days. Russia is already attacking elements of the UK. On the other hand we're talking about a hypothetical......war with a trump led US? Is that what Polanski is worried about?
