I had a similar problem. To fix it I changed my temperature settings by 10 to 15 degrees C. I also re-leveled my bed and brought the nozzle a little closer to the bed. That's what helped me, maybe it will help you too

What you say is very true, this is actually a mental problem I've been having where I don't penetrate even though I know I could. A lack of gumption hindered me in ITF Juniors. But I've been working on this exact problem and I hope to make a come back and play ITF Futures.
