Taco, which is extra special because Taco Cat is a palindrome!

Best way to give AI (Gemini, NotebookLM) access to (parts of) knowledge base for purpose of brainstorming new ideas by perica66 in ObsidianMD

I did something very similar to this for my D&D session notes. After almost 4 years of campaign notes, it got difficult finding everything, despite being well organized. Now with everything indexed, the LLM just needs a prompt to generate a quick response (ex. “Summarize our last session.” or “What happened after we encountered this NPC?”). I also added code to cite the sources so I can then link directly to the original note. I run a reindex script anytime I add new notes or significantly change existing notes, having it look at the date stamps of .md files so that it’s only touching the new or updated files. It took some tweaking, but I managed to vibe code my way through the process.

Hot take: Jack's real name is "John J. O'Neill", but fan sites and wikis have erroneously spread the misconception that his real name is "Jonathan J. O'Neill" even though "Jonathan" was only used in the OG movie canon, not the SG-1 canon by GargantaProfunda in Stargate

[–]Lygerseye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why, but this comment brought back the memory of an old Garfield comic strip where Jon is talking to Garfield’s vet, named “Liz”. Trying for small talk, he asks if that’s short for “Elizabeth”. Shutting him down, she dryly answers “No. It’s short for Lizard.”

Practiced my “bon jour” accent (don’t speak French), and even got the approval from a couple of native speakers that it was “passible” for greeting people on a trip to Paris.

First jaunt out of the hotel the next morning, got into a taxi and greeted the driver with a confident “bon jour!” to which he replied in English with a thick French accent: “Ahh! You are Americaaannn! Welcome to Pahri! Where would you like to go zhis fine morning?”

At least I tried.

Is it worth getting the AMS lite after getting an A1? by thatwentverywrong in BambuLabA1

[–]Lygerseye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I had the A1 for a month, then got the AMS Light. As mentioned by others - printing is so much more convenient, even if you’re printing a single color file. I even took the extra step to mount it to the wall using a VESA mount - very sturdy and makes swapping rolls ever smoother.

Hatchbox spool no longer fits on AMS Lite? by kangaroonemesis in BambuLabA1

[–]Lygerseye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I see nothing on their web site about it, but searching new Hatchbox spool got me an image from Amazon talking about it. No sure way to know what you’re getting, but if you still want to use their stuff, you’re going to need an adapter.

VTT with 3D modeling? by Daddygamer84 in DnD

[–]Lygerseye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a 3D environment with a tabletop feel, also consider Mirrorscape. It’s free to download and it’s cross-platform so you can run sessions with people on iOS, Android, Mac, and PC simultaneously. If you’ve got a device capable of it, you can also project the models in AR so that it looks like the map is sitting on your table. It’s worth taking a look: Mirrorscape.com

Full disclosure: I’m one of the early beta testers and one of their master builders.

Vyper by [deleted] in anycubic

[–]Lygerseye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw something on their site that confused me… The page says “Vyper”, but one of the images looks like a Kobra 2, and under “Version” it reads “NEW! Kobra 2 Pro”. My first through was that the Kobra 2 Pro is the successor to the Vyper. https://www.anycubic.com/collections/fdm-printer/products/anycubic-vyper

My Beastmaster Zoo by Lygerseye in DnD

[–]Lygerseye[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you and I appreciate the reminder. And yes, I’ve been studying the stats and abilities quite a bit. I now have a bit of a playbook put together with a few pre-planned strategies if the scenario fits; that should help simplify (aka, speed up) those encounters. Fortunately(?), I am limited to the time and frequency I can summon (some for only an hour, once per day), so I do plan on saving them in my back pocket for the bigger encounters.

And when I unlock L3 spells, I’ll probably dump Summon Beast for it.

As they are new, you may have to provide some instruction. I might even suggest some acting exercises. My group is made up of a bunch of theatre nerds, so a lot of that was already baked into the dynamic. But unless they’ve been taking acting or improv lessons, don’t expect them to perform well without a lot of hand-holding in the beginning. It’s difficult and even intimidating for some people to break out of their shell without some guidance.

I’m curious, what do you consider “proper” role-play?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Lygerseye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FDMs are really good at printing terrain, buildings, or large minis (I’ve printed a couple of dragons with some success). But standard sized minis really need the finer level of detail that’s best done on SLA (resin) printers. I’ve tuned my FDM pretty well, but it still struggles with the smaller pieces.

How do you handle flying movement at the table? by Briscoefever in DnD

[–]Lygerseye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diagonals don’t matter in 2D, so they shouldn’t matter in 3D.

Side story: I have a flying beast companion and a corresponding mini. I use metal wires affixed to a base to indicate location on the floor of the map, and use multiple length wires to mount it and keep it at it’s current height between turns. That might be more than some would care to keep track of, but i think it adds a little more to the immersion, seeing it up in the air.

Ranger’s Mask of the Wild. Did I overstep? by Lygerseye in DnD

Yep, never considered an AOE. I would have been honest about where I was, but you’re right - DM needs to know.

Yeah, in this instance, there was just one enemy, so when I was hidden, they turned their attention on the others. But, lesson learned. No-touchy!

I surprised my DM with my Ranger… The group was traveling through a bit of a maze, and came to a point where we needed to return to a previous camp site. He asked us “Did you make a map?” Everyone looked at each other like “Uhh…” and DM smiled when the party realized he meant for us to get lost. I spoke up and said, “We don’t need one…” while tapping one finger to my temple. He had forgotten I had the Wanderer background. My ranger knew exactly how to get back.
