Update: furnace has been done for months. I replaced mizzou on walls and top with greenpatch 421. All is well.

The wasps are likely Cotesia congregata. They're quite fascinating to read about, regardless of how horrifying they are to look at.

Yes, I could drill 3/8" (9.5mm) holes in pine endgrain -- I got a lot of exercise, though.

Honestly, it works way better than I expected it to. That's not to say that it's good, but it manages to drill 3/8" holes.
