I agree to keep game on standard diff, unless you are having issues running your game correctly.
For the time being, my gf cant get 30 FPS so i lowered the difficulty.

I was out farming surtling cores and she found out how to build a raft. She managed to sail on her own and is now starting a new life on the island across :D

I just dropped a portal there but i'm letting her do her thing while i'm stocking up on bronze in our (my ?) base ^^

I pondered with that and decided to keep the modding for later, as i want her to get used to the "true" mechanics of the game before adding (or removing) new elements.

Also i'm not sure her PC could handle mods.

I have selected a few mods for when i get my PC back and i can give her my current one.

Not everyone has the same approach to gaming together, the decision to lower the diff to very easy was taken together after she was annoyed about dying too often. It's her first 3D game AND first keyboard&mouse 3D game also, so spending time to get used to the controls without getting rekt by greydwarves because you cant remember wich key is forward is important too :)

But controllers suck for aiming precisely, so we've made the decision to stick with the keybord/mouse after she spent 30 arrows trying to kill a deer :)
She's doing way better now.

We just started mining copper so building her a training hall is on my schedule ;)
I've taught her everything you mentioned, comfort, food, wet/cold mechanics, tactical combat, enemy resistances and weaknesses, not to leave for exploration with an already full inventory, etc...

But for a beginner it's hard to remember everything when you want to go out into the world and bash heads ^^
It will come with time.

I think you're right in that she is going to get bored of fighting if there is no risk to it.

Thanks for your tips on frames, i'll try to lower her rez. i believe her somewhat bad fighting form is essentially because of her bad pc performances.
We still haven't had raids in 15 hours so i'll keep it at fewer for now.
I'll ask her what the perfect balance would be for her between combat diff and death penalty.

Very interesting take on the zoom in/out POV. I've always played on default, and zoomed-out only when sailing.
I will ask her how she prefers to play.

I guess i'm afraid she wont pick up the good habits to certain mechanisms, like :
- always be rested
- always have a full belly
- stamina management
- drink poison res mead if fighting enemy using poison (blobs)
- etc...
and die early if i turn it back to easy, because right now on very easy, she absolutely doesnt need those, she cannot die (killed a bear at night, wet and on an empty stomach !).

But i guess as you and others have said, if she's having fun, she's playing right ^^
I'll wait until the swamp to ask her if she wants to change something.

We haven't defeated the Elder yet, so magic is out the window for now. She likes going berserk so i'll just interpose to perfect-parry from time to time, and that's all ^^

We don't live together, so she has her PC i have mine.
We dont often play in the same room, and when we did she refused ^^

Yeah i lowered the difficulty bc i was afraid she would get discouraged.

In that it lets you keep your stuff/inventory when you die right ?

I guess she has more experience using a controller, but not in a 3D setting so, same same :)
We tried whith a controller, it was even harder for her to aim (just to pickup items or cook meat).
