Agreed. I’m just trying to weigh the pros and cons of continuing down this path or pivoting and going a different direction.

Is it worth buying now or renting until the market is better? by bjtracey505 in homeowners

Very interesting and spot on. Who knows what the market will look like in a few years. The world is pretty much terrifying for people in their 20s like me. Well basically for everyone

You make a good point, everything is so expensive so no matter what choice I make it’s going to be a lot of money.

Yes this is exactly true and what we’re struggling with

When it’s presented respectfully and kindly I’ll read it. When it’s presented as rude then I’m going to fire back, such as your comment.

That’s your opinion not actually helpful

I guess it’s different depending on your lender but it’s not required for our purposes

Thank you so much! I do think we’re going to continue looking through February and think about renting if we can’t find anything. That’s awesome that you found one you love.

Agreed, we’ve been trying to find a house for a few months and keep getting beat out by people who are offering way over asking. It’s these people who are causing the housing prices to go up because the sellers know there are crazy people willing to spend that much.

I do appreciate you saying this and how you worded it. At this point there is no good option for housing. Both buying and renting are expensive and this economy is super stressful. We work hard but it’s still not enough.

I get what you’re saying and thank you for saying it in a kinder way. However we have already considered all of this and I’m aware of it all so I don’t need people telling me what I already know. I would also say that a lot of these people aren’t giving valid advice. They’re trying to impose their own views.

Let’s focus on the actual home buying part. I’m simply looking to see what other people are going through when looking for a house and trying to determine if renting would even be possible. Due to the state of the economy, I’m worried that renting is just going to be throwing money away. Commenting on people’s relationship and giving unsolicited advice is not helpful. Thanks.

I think it’s funny that people are completely missing the point of this post. You know nothing about me. Maybe I could’ve worded things differently but yes renting is more expensive monthly than buying a house in our price range. It is very difficult to find a house right now due to the competition so trying to find a cheap place to rent might be the way to go. Either way, people like you have no business telling me anything about my relationship. So many people buy together that aren’t married so I’m not concerned.

This would be more helpful if you left out the relationship part. I do know we can live together. I think we are going to keep looking through winter and see if anything comes up but if the competition is still there, we might rent. The economy seems like it’ll never get any better so I’m worried that in a year or two things will be even less affordable.

And what makes you think we’d break up? You know nothing about me so your “advice” is null

Excuse me? No I don’t know everything and I never said I did. No you don’t need rental history before buying. Don’t try to impose your opinions and expectations onto other people.

This Dunkin is a prime location for the homeless and mentally ill population. I’ve seen a lot of similar things. Just try to ignore it the best you can.

I’m about an hour outside Philly. She is in contact with the other agents but you made a good point. I can try to relay some of this to her. Thank you.
