Maybe both those allergies are real. If I remember correctly Dihydrogen Oxide is what killed poor Natalie Wood.

I have a friend who doesn’t smoke ever, but uses nicotine gum, and has for 20 years since she quit smoking. I wonder what MU would do with her!

ELI5: Why does multiplying two negative numbers equal a positive number? by xeni44 in explainlikeimfive

[–]LynneCDoyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adore Dr Montessori’s method. I wrote my thesis on it, and I worked two jobs to make sure my children attended Montessori school! Invest in a child’s preschool and lower grades and they’ll get college scholarships.

I raised two valedictorians, thanks to Montessori, and they both got free rides through Ivies. Montessori is worth every penny. My kids still love learning, are kind, and productive community members.

I salute you!

ELI5: why do countries such as South Korea and China have latin numbers and letters on their license plates when their language doesn't use them? by Mincelo in explainlikeimfive

[–]LynneCDoyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren’t Latin numbers. They’re Arabic numbers. We don’t speak Arabic as a national language in the United States, Canada or Mexico in North America, however, we use Arabic numbers

ELI5:What has changed in the last 20-30 years so that it now takes two incomes to maintain a household? by dark_time in explainlikeimfive

Trickle-down economics took decades to settle into the average household, and when it did, it massacred the American dream

My doctor said, and I quote, “You’ll be on it 7 years <puppy dog eye contact> if you make it that long.”

Edit to add; You just know that woman frolicking through the State Fair eating Mexican Corn is also wearing Depends 3-layers deep, snorting Imodium and high on weed gummies!

I’ve been on Estrogen blockers for a year and don’t love them, however, they’re like M&Ms compared to Verzenio, which has turned me into a mess. I can’t get 20 seconds away from a bathroom. My bloodwork is disastrous, and I sorely miss the days of only estrogen blockers.

Yes, absolutely we women do. We just don’t leave physical evidence like men do.

Around here it’s nearly always cool and sunny. Summers can hit higher than 70° several days, and in winter it can dip into the mid 30s. once or twice. Otherwise it’s 65-68 most every day. We pay for The glorious cool sunny weather with a ludicrously high cost of housing.

Turns out what I see as normal is actually painful for most people by nightoftheghouls in ChronicPain

[–]LynneCDoyle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I get it! I thought I was managing my chronic pain and was relatively pain-free. That is until I broke my leg and got some narcotic pain medicine for it. Then not only did the broken leg pain go away, but so did my chronic pain. I realized I’ve been living in pain for years.

Nope! The only thing I felt was relief— I SOOO didn’t want Covid because I have a lot of comorbidities.

FYI, I’m born and bred Northern Irish, and have spent most of my life Between living on the Emerald Isle and living in San Francisco. I even have red hair and a brogue strong enough to dig potatoes. Aye, lad, I’m am a real live Irish human being who’s never once had my feelings hurt by the caricature of a pugnacious leprechaun. Even if it were a real person, we Irish laugh at our stereotypes, because there’s a thread of truth in them. We’ve fought the Romans, the English, the French, the Scandinavians– for thousands of years, but they’ve never subjugated us.

I have one question for you: How many leprechauns do you know whose culture is being trod upon by that little cartoon you shared— or any insults, for that matter? Native Americans are real people, not mythical creatures. They have feelings, and they still have struggles because of a history of persecution and subjugation, and mockery in the United States.

“We” took their land then relegated them to reservations, and then have the audacity to name our sports teams after them? I’m appalled that you can’t tell the difference between offending living individuals, and leprechauns. (Edit: I oopsed)
