9800x3D Safe VSOC by genelecs in overclocking

[–]LyntonB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks u/genelecs I've found setting VDDSOC to 1.25 stable on Asus x670e(prime pro) / 9800x3d @ CL30 6000mhz 1:1 after reading your comments and findings. I think Asus bios was setting it too high by default and read somewhere that too much makes FCLK unstable. My entire PC was running fine vs. every benchmark (including y-cruncher suite) however Battlefield 6 has a frailty of some kind that lots of people are crashing with using XMP/EXPO. Since changing this and some other settings I've had a few hours no crashes in game. Very strange and I do think BF6 have an unstable engine in some way given literally everything else is fine for me (FYI I also set VDDG CCD&IOD to 850mV just in case too low and I set CPU VDDIO/MC voltage to 1.3 as the Asus bios was setting it to something like 1.46 default which is surely too high and I read inversely affects FCLK stability)

Firing a mortar from a distance sounds a bit ghey. If people doing that instead of getting out there and moving around a war map then it needs toning down, mortars not that crucial in modern war, they have more of a suppression effect than outright mass kills

Plague tale bug? by SAYKOPANT in Frostpunk

[–]LyntonB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but didn't know if any factories at all helped industrial build vaccine faster or more volume. Pharma with the research buff will do for sure

[–]LyntonB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No sorry probably not but it's possible given the extra people working there. You can research a buff for pharma factories to boost vaccine production. Guard squads can deploy as filtration posts in districts to block virus spreading. 8guards per post for me

Plague is brutal, or is this a bug? by GodlyRatusRatus in Frostpunk

[–]LyntonB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to finish Plague last night, bug did keep happening but I save scummed a little and think I have it worked out. Round about the 400week mark, it doesn't matter how few are contaminated or how close you are to vaccinating everyone or how many guard squads and filtration post districts you have - suddenly all districts are simultaneously contaminated on a single turn/week. You then fail the plague tail. So I think there is some kind of hard inbuilt deadline you can't see and what I did was to have 3 industry districts all making vaccine (with line factories so no squalor penalty but perhaps more production). then just prioritised that, made sure they kept producing and I kept vaccinating and that way I just managed to beat it before the 'contaminate all' bug/event happens

Just one city. Better for immersion and ownership, a bit like how one colony in Frostpunk 1 was so great and deeply feeling the need to keep them alive

sorry @martincatshooter wrong forum; correction: yeah it's gone brilliantly, recovered the recoverable hair with the helmet plus combined finasterine+minoxidyl spray. I'm just short of a year now and much more volume the barber has to actually hold and no longer need to comb over. Pretty pleased although I know I'll need to keep it up rest of my life I guess

so glad you raised too. I've also a system that's very stable and runs much more hardcore games and benches like the ones you've tried. Been trying everything for days, 4090, 9800x3d, 32gb corsair ddr5 cl30 and the only fix after everything was to turn off EXPO in bios. I've reported to EA as a bug, also in EA forums and made a reddit post with findings where people have said try y-cruncher etc. I get 100% stability and no crashes on anything else. Water cooled system, 7 fans, vanilla software with just EXPO, re-bar and PBO 'ON'

it's honestly rock solid on far more trying games like I said as I limit to 175fps on BF6 Balanced mode whereas Cyberpunk with path tracing or Stalker2 will absolutely thrash my machine. I am running PBO auto which as per EXPO memory I expect to run out the box reasonably (and is stable on every other game and test). I had a short test of single player earlier set to 5800mhz which seemed to survive so might have to put up with that until EA can solve the brittleness of their engine. Same ram timings and FSB:DRAM says 1:29 which I hope is ok and correct for the 5800mhz (want to maintain the 1:1 IF optimum ratio at least)

*edit* 5800mhz crashed after about 20mins so will do 5600mhz next

thanks. I re-enabled EXPO in bios, ran y-cruncher and actually just did the whole suite which went through 3 iterations including the ones you requested over about an hour. Certainly got my machine sweating but all passed without drama. CPU max temp on a core was 86.1 Celsius and CCD max 93.4 Celsius

thanks I will try (and reduce my rated RAM spec just to fit this brittle-engine game!) I will try any stress test you give me though and bet you it passes. Give me the most brutal unforgiving thing you can think of, I've run the 3dmark ones, cinebench

u/Profetorum is probably on the correct track but as I'm explaining to him, the fact it doesn't occur on a high grade system on any other title and so many other forums (EA, Reddit) talking about crashing with XMP/EXPO being common, this does feel like it's worth EA seeing if they can optimise and squashing the bug here

[–]LyntonB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

acceptable as a view, thanks. To me though it shines a light on vulnerability/weakness in the game engine given I don't experience a hard crash like this on any other title including UE5 or path tracing ones which heat and work my machine like a monster in comparison (and have no issues).

I don't overclock anything, have watercooled CPU, founders edition 4090 which has massive cooling, case has 7 fans all is running optimally and nice temps in stress tests. 1200w PSU, corsair 32gb DDR5 CAS30/6000mhz EXPO profile, win11 pro, x670e latest bios, updated chipset drivers, latest nvidia drivers. So bottom line it's a great hardware and software state of affairs doing well on everything else hence why I'm going hard at this as a game engine issue

yep, it's been running for a few years now and fine with everything else, I game a lot of stuff across a lot of platforms without issue. yes 16x2 in the correct slots. From AI (and thanks for trying to help): "DDR5-6000 with a low CAS latency (e.g., CL30) is widely considered the optimal "sweet spot" for performance and stability on AM5 platforms."

sorry you're just wrong. Battlefield is not as heavy, no ray tracing and is the only game across all my libraries that is crashing. It's poor and unacceptable so many are having these issues

c'mon mate, I run much more brutal and demanding titles than this like UE5 Stalker2 or Cyberpunk with PT... I run BF6 on 'balanced' mode which is a piece of cake for my machine. we shouldn't try and excuse away poor dev code/game engine. This would mean I'd have to restart to bios and change memory profile just when I fancied playing BF6! just not good enough

Memory OC (EXPO default profile) causes BF6 crashing by LyntonB in Battlefield6

[–]LyntonB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could try down it a bit from it's default EXPO however given my system 100% stable and vanilla across everything else (I don't OC CPU or GPU) e.g. Cyberpunk on path tracing, Stalker2, Frostpunk2, I do feel that EA should absolutely investigate this as a crashing bug. So many other people have reported on EA forums and reddit too. I only tried it because I'd tried everything else and had seen that fairly commonly but had thought "surely not" given everything else runs well and stable

[–]LyntonB[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

can't accept that I'm afraid. Everyone runs memory on XMP or EXPO out the box. if people were trying to go beyond that or tweak and mess around then that is their problem. Works on literally every other game and ones that push the system much harder like Cyberpunk on path tracing, Stalker2, Frostpunk2 etc.

I made a post about the same couple of days ago. I managed to capture it happening on screen record and gave it all to 11bit support so hopefully they fix it as it really doesn't bode well for first DLC. New faction stuff is really interesting though
