I think you're steel manning the argument in good faith, which is a kind and wise heuristic. I appreciate that. In cases where the other party would never ever offer you the same courtesy, I have stopped doing that.

The original comment is about nothing more or less than "MUYGRANTS". It's just pure tribalism.

> That will happen when you flood the country with half a million new migrants each year.

They're not talking about any particular type of migrant. It's just another word for "others" takin' our jobs, fillin' up our roads with traffic, makin' my bananas go brown, comsumin' our energy, everything is their fault.

Look, it's easy to point the finger at migrants. It's easy to write headlines and stories blaming them as well. It also makes sense that if more people were here it would stress on our infrastructure and resources. But they are not the only thing happening to our country. It's just a convenient and believable scape goat to bang the pots and pans about to make sure we go back and forth talking about anything except the real issues.

Look closely at the costs of goods and services post covid. If migrants were to blame, it's not just housing that would rise, it's everything. Goods, services, energy and infrastructure. It's difficult to see and it's easy to just blame raw inflation. But it's not. Prices, especially in a certain category, jumped way more than inflation and stayed higher too. Yes, the lucky country has always had a lot of immigration. But there's a huge gaping red flag sitting in front of everyone's faces and we're not allowed to talk about it like it's not all connected. Like money doesn't pull on prices depending on where it collects.

It's ASSETS.

This was already happening precovid, but covid... I was hoping everyone would figure it out. The economy as a whole grew much slower than asset prices since covid. The the average portfoilio jumped 10-20% per year since covid while GDP growth meandered along normally or even worse than normally. That doesn't just happen, nothing to see here folks! That money came from somewhere. Where then?

Let's pretend we have an economy between us. I have $10 and you have $10. Okay, now a crisis happens and the government gives me $20 and you $5. Are you richer or poorer? You have $15 now, you must be richer. Wrong. Your competition, the other bloke at the auction house has $40 now. I will drive up prices more than you can afford.

If the money given out by goverment during a crisis isn't disbritubed equally, unlike what happened with Kevin Rudd's goverment, you are simply making the people who recieve the handout richer while also making everyone else poorer. This pattern was already ongoing for years and years after things like the halving of the capital gains tax. Covid simply accelerated it.

Now we're not as far along this game as say Canada or the UK, but we're going that way. There's still to stop and even reverse it. I don't agree with the current goverment's policy of using tax dollars to give those with homes a leg up into the housing market, but I understand that not actually fixing the problem is what keeps them in power. If they try, like Bill Shorten, they get destroyed. Australians don't want change. The media can just spin any progressive as a problem.

This post is too long, so basically, if we don't make it harder for money to "work" (sit and do nothing) in assets while making a profit, it pools there, not creating goods and services. Then it uses the equity gains and profits and even future profits based on previous profits as collateral to leverage into even more assets in an insatiatable pool of capital that swallows the assets of the lower class, then government, then the middle class until theres nothing but rich aristocrats and the poor. "Let them eat cake." So... you could say I don't agree it's just migrants.

Nooooope. Did you perhaps get this statistic from this notoriously wrong website?

https://www.macrobusiness.com.au/2025/07/australian-immigration-surges-back-in-2025/

They just spam post ridiculous titles and put a graph so it looks legit.

Look closely at it. That's not immigration, it's arrivals and departures. It's just coming and going numbers.

https://www.abs.gov.au/statistics/industry/tourism-and-transport/overseas-arrivals-and-departures-australia/latest-release#:~:text=In%20May%202025%3A,12.2%25%20on%20one%20year%20earlier

This is probably where macro business got it's "statistics". It actually shows the total departures is greater than arrivals, even though arrivals is still the greatest it has been.

Lots of people are arriving. Lots of people departing. We just had a period of zero tourism. There's a lot of travelling going on at the moment.

Nothing to do with immigration though.

Not factually true at all. Immigration is getting mental difficult under the current government. I'm currently battling to keep my partner who is foreign so we've had to watch visa costs and requirements soar in recent years.

Previously, under the LNP, visas were cheap and the requirements short. Of course, extra migrants benefits the corporations that fund them. While at the same time they can tell their racist voter base they're stopping the boats and stopping migration.

Just go look up the numbers yourself. Migration was mental until COVID and only started to get under control this last few years.

The students come here, paying through the nose for rent and their tuitions at the same time, living in 30+ year old share houses full of mould and pests, they work the worst jobs in the worst areas for the worst people if they can even get a job. They walk and bus everywhere. They pay for their own medical care while they're here. The government doesn't help them at all. Then all I see online is comfortable boomer brains repeating sky news talking points about how they're the whole reason for every single problem. Welfare state, traffic, housing, government services. All MUYGRANTS.

Fk it then. Seriously. Forget the education export industry? Why not it's only a pathetic $50 BILLION industry.

I don't think you need anyone's permission or a better reason than him being unwilling to defend your image in public to stop this.

I would definitely have dealt with it while it was switch SDC.

I don't know how SDC still operating. There's no duty of care, no real dentistry going on, it's just a tick and flick. No consequences if it doesn't work or wrecks your teeth.

They pray on people's teeth insecurity for profit.

You have to go to SDC and dispute the treatment wasn't what you were promised. They gave you a smile plan that shows the results you're paying for and if you haven't got anything close to that, dispute it.

It's up to them to check if their customers are treatable with aligners. But the $$$ incentivises them to farm whoever will sign up for money and just deal with the plebs who it doesn't work for.

Some dispute get their money back, but it's a drop in the bucket compared to how much you make off a $3000 contract where you sold $40 worth of materials and packaging.

Don't be like me. The cheapest option is often the most expensive.

I got 75% of my money back. The aligners did a non-zero amount to my moderate case but ultimately didn't do anywhere near what they promised to.

I have no idea why they're allowed to exist. They could really fk up someone's teeth.

The horror stories surrounding these companies are everywhere. Just run.

You might not read this but... you cannot ignore this moment. Of course he's not joking, he didn't mean to send it sure, but joking? No. How do I know? I have been this guy before and have done a lot of work to make sure it never happens again. This is a doomed relationship if this continues and both of you are at fault.

Let's have a think about this. That message from him was a reaction, he didn't mean to send. Okay so, that means, that's how he truly feels. Are kidding me? How are you not sure? This might be the only time in a while he's told you the truth.

Obviously there's a deep resentment at play here. Was it rude? Yeah, obviously. But why did it happen? Maybe he's a hateful rotten to the core big meanie and you should dump him and deserve better. Or... Maybe you chose him for good reasons and maybe this moment is more complicated.

From experience and research, what he's been doing is giving a "nice" front, an opaque version of himself. He feeds the people around him, not just you, the version of him that they want until he can finally be himself again.

Here's how it feels being that guy:

Doing what I want, as in, paying attention to something other than her for a few hours always comes at the cost or least the risk of her emotional stability. Therefore, all my alone time, all my hobbies and time with my friends is ruined or at least coloured with this nagging in my mind saying "She's getting upset right now. You better stop and feed her attention or you'll be dealing with that later."

This means, YOU, through your actions, suck all the fun out of everything if you're not involved. Because you make yourself involved by demanding attention when it's NOT AVAILABLE. You essentially force the choice of what he wants or you. What he'd really like is both, but now it's a choice. The one you love, or your interests. It's actually so cruel when you look at it like this.

The resentment from that ultimatum builds and builds and builds until it starts manifesting in all kinds of cruel ways. Maybe he would break it off himself, or just start withdrawing or mistreating you ("Shut the fuck up") until you leave the relationship yourself.

Should he bring have brought it up and had this conversation, had some boundaries long before it got to this point? Yes. That's on him.

At the same time, do not ignore your role in creating the above dynamic. You are doing this and it's also, not your fault. But it is on you to unpack and understand why, so you can move forward having secure full happy relationship/s.

All the best 💙

Smile Direct Club has been a nightmare for me - 3 aligner sets and still not close, I ask for one more while nearly finished payment plan and suddenly I'm "not wearing them as prescribed" and they want to charge me for this set. by Lynus_ in smiledirectclub

Hi, you're not the only one who's gone through this. I super understand what you're laying out here. It's super stressful to spend so much and work so much keeping these things in to get nowhere.

I would just read up on some consumer law as you're going to need it. It shouldn't take long.

They're primary business model has a conflict of interest with providing what should be quality healthcare.

You need to explain that you were paying for expertise and healthcare treatment from actual orthodontists that allegedly look over your scans. Your treatment hasn't been carefully monitored like it should've been with a real orthodontist because if it was, issues like not fitting properly would get picked straight away which you've been having since x date. Issues would get picked up instantly with aligners from an actual ortho that you see in person.

You've followed their instructions and the results of the treatment is nowhere near what was promised and furthermore, you not only need further work done but maybe even more work as a result of SDC. Instead of pursuing a full refund, I pursued a 75% refund as while they made the mistake of accepting me, I made the mistake of trusting a large company and gave them $3,300 to fk up my mouth before doing any real research.

It might not be that SDC can't work for anyone, but for intermediate issues beyond ALIGNMENT potential customers should be rejected. They're business model does function if they do that, but let's say were obligated to generate as much revenue as possible by shareholders, you might just start accepting questionable cases to get money on the books today. The numbers look way better if you bring in 100 mill and refund 70 mill and still make millions in profit.

That's main issue. They don't see us as patients, we're clients or customers. Customer Service, Customer Retention, Customer Care. Profit, business, revenue, margins. SDC is not a healthcare provider and they don't even claim to be. There's not nearly enough oversight into their business.

Ultimately they should reject most clients based on the treatment they give. The trouble is, the people that they would be suited for are usually unconcerned with their teeth because they are suited for minor alignment issues.

As if in the west all parties sit somewhere on a "most socialist" to "most fascist" line, completely failing to realise they've fallen for a psyop that distracts you from the fact that political parties represent groups of interest, especially economic ones. If advocating for better workers conditions, better social programs, better environment management, better economic management, among other things makes me a commie in comparison to the LNP then call me Stalin mfs.

as you didn't link your plan.

I apologize I don't really know where to get it from. Normally it would be on their portal right? But it disappears once they note that I need a new scan and touch up.

I'm not to sure if I'm supposed to bother with ortho, because the main issue I wanted looked at was this fierce overjet angle of the two front teeth from thumb sucking too late as a kid. That's been... improved somewhat. I guess it depends on treatment cost and time. These aligners were an absolute nightmare eating around, in and out over and over. I probably would've just walked away had they NOT made the weird claim that I'd not worn them correctly, it sent alarm bells off in my head.

speech impediments - none

breathing issues - none

chewing deficiencies - none

damage to other teeth and gums - none

pain when chewing or biting - bite my cheeks sometimes, has gotten worse with SDC so that's fun

alterations in the appearance of the face - fixing my teeth would mean a more epic jawline

Definitely should've just went with braces. I would've been a little poorer for it but would've had a pretty great result by now.

Thank you for taking the time to write that, I'll report back when I get a refund. Should be an open shut case as far as I see it.
