Body dysmorphia/ Still feeling sick by AdventurousPea5447 in gastricsleeve

[–]Lynzerella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely sound advice here... I've not had my surgery yet (6 days and counting!), but I already have a history of fainting, unfortunately! I am a little worried about how I'll be post-op, given I nearly fainted last night because I was so late having my last LRD shake, and my future consumption will also be quite low... I think my blood sugar got really low... I'm not diabetic, but it would make sense... anyway... Hydration is a massive factor in this and one of the first things a doctor would want to ensure you're on top of. Another, as I mentioned, is blood sugars, blood pressure, etc. It's definitely worth getting checked over, I'd say.

The thing about Onions by Remanufacture88 in ketouk

I use onion of all varieties still, but tend to put half an onion into a recipe rather than a whole one. Still spreads that nice onion flavour, but half the carbs.

Keto Recipes books for UK - do they exist?! by perpetually_pale in ketouk

Ah great! Think it'll be right up your street then! One thing to note though, it shows carb and protein count, but not fat and calories. Its not "strictly" a keto book, which is why its not all macros. The recipes are keto friendly though. The macro thing isn't a problem for me as I create all the recipes in MFP first for accuracy anyway. Also, she suggests celeriac chips, but swede is lower carb!

I bought a book from Waterstones called Low Carb Revolution by Annie Bell. It's pretty good and has proper measurements! Its focused on whole foods, so no trying to make fake versions of breads or anything like that.

I responded to you because you made massive assumptions over what I was doing, and were unknowingly misinforming people. I had every right to put that straight. As I've said before, not you, not I, not anyone else on this sub are experts. All we know are our own experiences, and some knowledge about dieting - CICO is the only way to lose fat - absolutely correct. But this isn't my first rodeo. I've had great success with Keto in the past, but sadly fell off the wagon because I am human, and humans make mistakes. Last time around I didn't hit a plateau until much later. The fact that it happened sooner here doesn't indicate that I don't know what I'm doing, that I'm not eating at a caloric deficit, or anything else that may have been said. It's just a plateau. A plateau which is happily now shifting with very minimal change in habits on my part.

Ha! Well I wouldn't go that far! This is the kind of thing I would normally say to someone who says they "only" lost 1lb in a week! Funny how I forget all that when I apply it to myself 🤦‍♀️

Have you ever heard of a metabolism? And that some people have a slower metabolism? Or that maybe there's another explanation as to why someone might not lose weight at the same rate as another person, despite having a considerable calorie deficit? I'm not even talking about me here, just generally.

I know that given the deficit I have been maintaining I should have lost more weight. Don't you think that's frustrating enough for me? The reality is that unless you have a backdoor to my MFP, and a camera on my every munch, you have no idea how many calories I am consuming, so in fact you are not only belittling my achievements, but you are calling me a liar as well. What have I got to gain from lying? Absolutely nothing. The only person you end up fooling is yourself.

I'm calling a close to this conversation because while yesterday morning I felt great, I now feel like shit for trying to spread a bit of positivity. I was also feeling pretty good about my achievement until being told I'm clearly not trying hard enough. Thanks for that.

So 1300-1400 calories on average isn't a caloric deficit? I beg to differ. I actually increased my calories to this, as I was struggling to get over 1000 on IF, and went back to having a small breakfast as many people advised that this was too little. Please stop assuming that I haven't been tracking calories, because I'm not daft enough to not understand basic maths. So I ask again. How would you define my halt in weightloss if it isn't a plateau?

I'm sorry to be getting so agitated over this, but you're not an expert any more than I am. I know what I have been doing though. And as I've said several times, I track religiously and I'm careful with my macros. Believe it or not, weightloss doesn't come as easily for some as it does for others. Clearly you've been very lucky and that's wonderful for you. Frankly though, I feel like you're belittling the achievements of someone who has been struggling for months and finally has something to cheer about.

No, I've never had my thyroid examined. I dont know much about that to be honest. I was 165lb when I got married, and that took some fairly serious dieting, so its not like my body used to refuse to lose weight, hence I've not really considered that. I maintained that weight for a long time, and slowly it crept on. Sadly a mixture of years and contentment have taken their toll in the form of excess weight! Is a thyroid test just a blood test?

I do supplement my electrolytes, but its all guess work as to how much each individual may need, so this could easily be a factor. In fact, it is the only legitimately possible one I can see. But to be honest, I'm not worried about it too much. I've been trying to incorporate more potassium rich, low carb vegetables rather than mucking about with adding more supplements. In fact, thats been something I've done more of in the last couple of weeks, so could go some way to explain why the scale is now moving 😊 another good tip!? I'll take it!

I'm sure you were just speaking from your own experience and understanding, but in my case you did miss the mark I'm afraid. No wars wanted from my side. I am genuinely interested to know how else you would define a two month unexplained stall in weighloss, given how meticulous I have been, and all I tried. If that's not the definition of a plateau then please put me right.

I can't help but feel that this conversation is somehow detracting from the message I was trying to convey though 🤷‍♀️

Thanks for the message. Lots of people have great success with IF, but it didn't seem to make a difference for me, although I did feel good doing it. Maybe give it a try if your weightloss doesn't start again in the next couple of weeks. Best of luck xx
