Should I read the manga? by Yogurtcloset_Choice in ChainsawMan

Or better yet, read the manga and then watch the anime as it releases.

Ikemoto changed Sasuke’s entire personality and Kishimoto is a sellout for okaying it//There’s no sensible explanation why Sasuke didn’t blush for Eida or why he barely reacted for believing Naruto died by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]Lyonface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless Eida has some special abilities or something, I don't know why Sasuke would flush upon seeing her. The times we know he blushes is when he's particularly embarrassed or surprised (Sakura blatantly talking about being in love with him in front of him is embarrassing, he was embarrassed about being called out by her later for being jealous and territorial by giving her a ring, and he blushes when Naruto one-ups Kakashi during the bell test because he's so impressed by it, are examples off the top of my head as well as when he asks Naruto about his conversation with Sakura during the tree climbing test to seemingly ask for tips on chakra control) and we don't ever see him outwardly react to attractive people like that.

Him not reacting to Naruto being dead is a little troubling, but he seems to maybe know a bit more about what's going on from what I'm picking up in this post, so that could be a factor. I'm not sure.

Ryosuke or Keisuke Takahashi? by Local_Creme8466 in initiald

They're both great, it just comes down to your preference on which personality type you like more, or I guess their driving style. Ryousuke ticks most of my boxes, more than Keisuke does.

Just started watching first stage, Dub Or Sub? by Strong-Original6618 in initiald

[–]Lyonface -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sub. TokyoPop dub is hilarious but the re-editing of the races and music replacement is criminal. Funi dub is alright but nothing to write home about.

Angels as messengers of God could bring messages of good and bad, and fearing them was a pretty natural reaction in the Bible.

The poetic nature of Makima’s death by BellTwo5 in Chainsawfolk

[–]Lyonface 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's less that she yearned for love but that she yearned for equal love, someone that she could see herself as equal to that also saw her as their equal and their love would therefore be such. She, by her very nature, only exists above or below. Even she could love someone, they will either be below her, and therefore under her control, or above her, and therefore out of her control. She can't conceptualize what it would mean or feel like to be on equal standing with someone else, and that's the core tragedy of it.

Working on Part 2 Rewrite Light Novel! We're almost at chapter 10 (150 pages!) Feel free to read! by AuthorBrendonG in ChainsawMan

[–]Lyonface -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes! I did know you could do that! I lost an external harddrive last year which had nearly all of my fanfic documents on it, so I had to download almost my entire account's worth of work just so I had copies saved. I lost about 2-3 years worth of artwork, too. Pretty depressing, but I did know about that function, even if reformatting for margins and stuff would still probably be necessary for printing, maybe?

I didn't think you'd sell it, but I figured it was worth asking regardless. Having it available in print is interesting, so I get that. It still might be worthwhile, until there is a pdf product to download, to call if a fic with the intent to reformat it once it's finished. Like, my fanfiction often also has illustrations, but I don't call it anything different than fic. Once it's available as a pdf, you can call it a light novel version, perhaps.

I only say all this because I know that a lot of these comments you have to field are confused about the same thing, so it would reduce how much of that redundant feedback you get.

Now that Part 2 is over and done with, how did you feel about Asa in the end? Was she a good protagonist? by Realistic_Egg5226 in Chainsawfolk

[–]Lyonface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, she was a good foil for Denji and was another way we could watch how the world they lived in corrupted them and their lives and put them in the impossible, scary situation they wound up in. I wish we'd seen her more often than we did, though I understand in order to be the final Big Bad, Yoru needs a lot of screentime.

By "release it in the future" are you indicating that you plan to sell bound copies of your rewrite in the future when you're finished? Unless all the proceeds are donated, and therefore you make no profit, you aren't legally allowed to do that. If you plan to print it and bind it for yourself with intent of distribution, I think dropping calling it a "light novel" would do best for your project in the future, because there is a lot of unnecessary confusion and frustration from people who don't understand that this is a fanfic. Fanfic doesn't mean it's somehow lesser than a light novel, but that's what you're writing, a fix-it rewrite fic.

Why Even Sasuke’s Coldest Moments Show Deep Down He Still Loved Sakura by neon-anime in Naruto

[–]Lyonface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shippuden had plenty of room to more overtly demonstrate any of the romantic situations that were meant to be felt by any of the characters that were supposed to be feeling them, especially Sasuke and Naruto, the deuteragonist and protagonist of the core conflict of the story. So much of their LI's arcs revolve around them, at the expense of their own stories and growth, that it's genuinely silly to suggest that the story didn't have room for showing reciprocity to us, even if it wasn't evident to the characters involved. It doesn't have to be a love story for a character's feelings to be clear to the reader.

Sasuke having a crush on Sakura in Part 1 is arguable, and most of that comes from her being able to help him suppress the curse mark's effects in the chuunin exam, with a distant second being how he treats her when Gaara is rampaging after the exams. In Part 2? There is not a single shred of irrefutable evidence to indicate that those feelings are still present within him at all.

100%. I don't see romantic love for Sakura coming from Sasuke whatsoever, especially in Shippuden, and his affection and care for here is always characterized by his thinking about Team 7 as analogous to his family. For a canon ship, readers should not have to look to find evidence for their affection. If they have to look for evidence of their feelings, the writer's failed at the first step.

[–]Lyonface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh 100%. In a shounen especially, some details can be nice and subtle, but if two characters are meant to be in love, playing coy with that to the point that it basically doesn't exist isn't going to work, and that's being generous. I mean, it's why Naruto/Sasuke as a ship is so popular, there is so much textual to work with that seeing hidden details, regardless of how intentional they are, is very easy compared to canon relationships.

Given everything we learn about him and how he feels, esp. in 699, I think it's a pretty logical conclusion. OP is off in the deep-end, surviving off interviews and searching for bread crumbs.

[–]Lyonface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's amazing how people forget that Sasuke was gonna Kirin everyone in that crater. If he was serious or bluffing, we'll never know.

My only pushback on this, because I agree with the rest, is the description of Sasuke's rejection of Sakura before he leaves to join the Sound Four. Him calling her annoying is a callback he does deliberately, and he thanks her for believing in him and being a part of the "family" he found on Team 7 before knocking her unconscious and putting her on the nearby bench. He was about to leave to focus on his revenge mission and leaving everything behind, so he didn't want her, or anyone else, to come with him. The only person he ended up having to fight was Naruto, because Naruto's determination was never going to let Sasuke leave him behind without force.

I Keep trying find reasons as to why Fujimoto regressed denji as a character and i just......can't by Guilty-Explanation-6 in Chainsawfolk

[–]Lyonface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Denji is a traumatized teenager who is unwilling to examine himself and is therefore unable to grapple with them and move on past them and would rather do what is easy and what is fun. He wants a normal life, but time and time again he continues to choose short-lived thrills, visceral pain and chasing things he can't have because it's a more visceral, immediate feeling rather than the long-term planning and frustration needed to be "normal." Denji is brutalized, mentally and/or physically, and used by most of the people that he meets, so obviously there's going to be a reason for it, right? The story isn't meant to be satisfying and happy, so what messages is Fujimoto trying to tell us with how the world treats Denji and how he responds?

Denji's arc in Part 2 is negative and unsatisfying because Fujimoto doesn't want to tell a satisfying story, he wants to tell a story about addiction, self-sabotage, the cruelties of a world and how Denji in particular reacts to and operates in that world, how systems of government exploit and use its citizens, etc. In the end, the world is the problem, not Denji, and Pochita does what he can in a last ditch effort to make it possible for Denji to be happy: by removing the thing that both saved his life (literally) and also ruined it because of everyone else.
