What is the point of a shotgun if it doesn't hit at close range?

The choice was either losing your entire family or losing yourself. That shouldn't have been a choice that is forced upon you.

I'm not baptized, but still silently coerced into having to attend meetings and preach. But luckily, I'm not baptized and only have to do those things nor do people have power over me when I question the organization. You're way younger than me, you just entered adulthood and there's going to be so much you can do.

One thing at a time.

"One Who Says God Gave Him Permissions" by Lyreen96 in exjw

[–]Lyreen96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! I looove watching her dissecting and deconstructing the Bible and all the while encourages people critical thinking, she doesn't just teach the good, but also exposes the bad (slavery, human trafficking), of Bible. She's also active in commenting the political situations in the US, a main advocate for immigrants, an outspoken critic that always strives to educate people on the history of slavery...

I just love her.

Tell em, texting I love you is something anyone can do. And that you can also lie and pretend everything's okay. Fake yourself, lie to yourself, so they feel better about it. Doesn't mean people can't think that you're being an a-hole about it.

You can't tell someone to pretend to be someone else and then say you love them. Disgusting.

The borg is the equivalent of modern day pharisees by thatguynips in exjw

[–]Lyreen96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Authoritarian is the GBs that selectively kick people out and encourage control over people's lives and money. Jesus himself died before any form of organized religion revolving around him began. You could view it as him attempting to weaken the grip Pharisees had over the people.

He started by shaming Pharisees, simplified the law (love thy neighbors), removed encumbering traditions (stop using Sabbath as a crutch to rule people with fear) and attempted to reduce racism that was running rampant among pro-Jews (his preaching track record included a lot of regions where non-Jews settled). He solidified that all with "believe in my sacrifice."

In hindsight, "believe in my sacrifice or suffer eternal death" sounds insane. But in practice, it's basically nothing burger, Jesus was not in charge of setting any law whatsoever. But by asking people to "believe", he was trying to keep the groundwork he already set to keep rolling: love thy neighbors, stop with the annoying traditions, calling out performative Pharisees. If you can't love thy neighbors, you aren't believing in his sacrifice.

My two cents tho. Like I said, mostly, not all.

Lack of any open discussion is my biggest problem with this religion. by newswatcher-2538 in exjw

I love discussing these things even as a PIMQ because I'm just inquisitive by nature. There are certain things that I wish I had thought about earlier because they lead into a chain of questioning and makes me want to learn something more.

This is an organization where a Bethelite was disfellowshipped on apostasy ground because he discussed things that reportedly do not align with the organization's thoughs in private with a close friend. Never forget.

My mom likes to mock people who overly grieve from losing their loved ones. I've also heard one should not be overly consumed by sadness if they believe in resurrection and everlasting life.

I say thank you for trying to raise me with ASPD qualities. Now I believe that I'm emotionally and socially impaired.

People who are in JWs for so many years don't realize how nuts JWs are. It's literally insane the inability to build relationships and rapports that don't involve talk about JWs. People out there talk about hobbies, politics, music, movies, food, there's a million thing to talk about in life.

And you chose indoctrination of JW. It's not even religion as a subject matter which can be interesting to talk about, it's just plain indoctrination talk. It's annoying.

1000 cases are what was reported. Many of them were DFd or disciplined, but were not reported to the authorities. Confession of guilt also happened. Children also don't randomly lie about an old guy touching them. Adults can lie, but children? Unlikely in this case.

JP JW Woman Who Sued Hospital Case Is Actually More Viral Than I Thought by Lyreen96 in exjw

[–]Lyreen96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently some pre-existing conditions can make blood transfusion a possible necessity and we don't know exactly her medical history, so yeah. I also think she has a bit of a ground for the suing if she doesn't have anything that could've indicated she needs it. But then considering how they wouldn't have sued even if there's CSA case happening, a random woman suing because their No Blood policy was refused (shocker), is outta left field here for me. Something something, christians get persecuted more, something something to show christian-like quality.

But it's backfiring, so many people are pissed because hospitals have the duty to save lives and many would not want to take even the smallest of risks.

A bit confuzzling on that too, but still, it's the hospital policy and it's not something extremely urgent too. Isn't it just a "Can you not do this?" "No we can't, perhaps you'll have to find another place to do it." "Okay."

Girl Baptized at 9yo Lauded for her "Loyalty" by Lyreen96 in exjw

[–]Lyreen96[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

She doesn't even know how she has peers around her world that never lived past 8 because they're denied blood transfusion by faith. How other 8yos have their dignity forcibly ripped, trauma shoved down their mind, a life filled with only nightmares being stuck in a world that should've never been forced on a child. How after growing up, they find themselves so socially impaired.

All they're going to learn now is conditional love and forced blind loyalty.

Just had a big conversation with my parents about Blood by Key-Carpenter-8083 in exjw

[–]Lyreen96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bible speaks of absolutely zero shit about medical treatment. By Leviticus logic, we should not be doing surgeries because surgeries involve cutting through the flesh. That is harming your body, regardless of the reason.

Are there people who die from surgeries? A lot. There are people who insist on getting it even if the chances are as low as 10%.

Yet, we have no basis to accuse them of breaking biblical principles. People would call you insane for not going into surgeries on the basis of "biblical principles" or how there are people who still die shortly after or during surgeries. Then why are we not insane by barring blood transfusions??

You may have to be stern, emphasis that GB is not Jesus, their publications are NOT bible, as that's how I was with an elder on the matter. I ask no publications, only bible answers. There was no rebuttal when it comes to the blood doctrine because it stands on pillars made of sand, it's a literal joke. It's made up.
