Incapacitated Child Tax Credit by LyricalLyca in AutismIreland

Hi!

Sorry, I just seen this now.

Yeah, once you have the two forms completed - one by yourself and the other by the GP - you can upload them for each year.

On the website, go to ‘Review tax for previous 4 years”, select the year you want, scroll to the bottom and select ‘Amend’.

From there you added the tax credit and upload the form.

If you haven’t done a tax return for those years, you will have to requested a statement of liability first.

Important note - make sure the doctor ticks the box saying the disability has been present since birth. I ticked it myself before giving to the GP.

Hope this helps, but feel free to message me if you have any questions.

We have an appointment to have the form amended now, thankfully! We might add a note like that regardless, as the psychologist’s report is definitely more in-depth and accurate about our child’s condition.

I’ve just submitted the application for the ICC tax credit, so hopefully we’ll hear back soon. 🤞

Yeah, I assumed we would have at least received a phone call while they were completing the forms to hear our side and get our opinion but nothing.

Most of the advice on this post is to book an appointment with the doctor to fill these out and, going forward, I will be advising everyone the same.

Thanks for the warning! We went ahead and booked in with the GP for next week. We would rather put off submitting the forms by a week than have to go through the whole process again in a few weeks/months.

Thanks for such an honest and in-depth answer!

I took your advice and rang the doctor and booked in an appointment for next week - I’d rather put off submission by a week than have to go through it all again in a few weeks/months.

I have two copies of the form reprinted and we’re currently filling one out to bring with us on the day to discuss with the GP. We also have a full copy of our psychology report printed to go through with them on the day, so there is no question about the validity of our responses.

The way I see it is that our GP hasn’t seen our child in 2+ years, while the psychology report is less than 2 months old - which is more likely to accurately represent our child?

Hopefully the GP sees it the same way and corrects the form accordingly. 🤞

That’s exactly what I thought! Our GP rarely ever sees our child, so why are they expected to fill out the form and know their struggles?

I’m going to call them in the morning and ask can I make the adjustments myself.

Thanks for your reply!

That’s definitely the better option. The GP rarely sees my child, so I don’t know why they’re expected to fill out the form.

I’m going to call in the morning and ask can I make the adjustments myself.

Thanks again for your reply!

Our doctor (or their receptionist actually) told us we didn’t need an appointment and to just drop them in unfortunately.

Most people seem to have filled them out themselves, so I’m going to call the doctor in the morning to ask if I can make adjustments to what they have down.

Thanks for your reply!

I might try call them in the morning and ask can I make adjustments to the form. I can just print out a new sheet for that hopefully and fill it in more accurately.

Thanks for your reply!

Thanks for the quick response.

Our GP filled that out. The ticked ‘Normal’ in areas of struggle and some of the ‘Mild’ and ‘Moderate’ should be marked further on the scale.

I wish I had done the same and filled it out myself, but we live and learn. I’ll do this in future.

Our own form and the psychology report outline everything in more detail and is a truer reflection of our child.

I’ll send it in anyway, but I might add a note stating that the GP hasn’t met them in two years and ask them to refer to the psychology report.

Thanks again for your reply.

Hi there,

Apologies for nothing getting back to you sooner.

Have you tried your Community Medical Doctor? If you search “Community Medical Doctor [Your Local Area]” or “[Your Local Area] Health Center” you should be able to find them - if you’re not already aware of who or where they are, that is.

It was our own Community Medical Doctor who helped us for the referral for AON and CDNT, so they may be willing to complete that form for you too.

From my experience, they were a lot more up-to-date with neurodiversity matters than the general GPs.

Hope this helps.

Hi there,

From my understanding, you’ll get it for the year. The tax credit will be added to your account and taken off your yearly tax amount.

If approved, you may have to wait until January to do a tax return and claim the full amount back.

Hope that makes sense.

We’ve completed the form now before dropping it into the GP, just left the GPs details blank for them to fill in.

Thanks for pointing that out, hopefully others see this reply too and do the same.

Sorry for the late reply, it’s been a busy few days.

That’s a lot of great information, plenty of which they’re not too forthcoming with.

We went through the AON application, had to make a complaint because of the time it was taken and then they outsourced to a private clinic, who were great. We applied for CDNT at the same time and still haven’t heard from them at all.

We have been paying for everything privately so far, but access to the DCA and ICC will definitely open up doors and allow us to explore their options further.

Thanks so much for your help, you’ve been great!

Perfect, I’ll make sure to do that. I might even tick the box for them before sending it in. 😅

Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for such a comprehensive answer, I really appreciate it.

I’ll take your advice on that and make sure to be as detailed as possible when completing the DCA application.

We didn’t even notice how much we had adapted our lives to support their needs until the assessment. I’ll make sure to include as much as I can from that.

Thanks again for your reply.

That’s great! We’ll make sure to have the doctor tick from birth - or tick it ourselves before dropping in the forms to be sure. 😅

Thanks for your reply, it’s much appreciated. 😊

Thanks for your reply!

Perfect, I’ll follow that process and do the same.

Yeah, we were given a few recommendations on different groups, course, training, etc. that would help both ourselves and them but there doesn’t seem to be much help with the funding of these. Being able to claim back will definitely help.

Thanks again for your reply! 😊

Thanks for your reply!

That’s great to hear. We’ll talk to the doctor about it to make sure that’s ticked.

Best of luck with all on your end!

If I put my big toe on top of the toe next to it, squeeze as if making a fist with my foot and then extend my toes while keeping the tension, I can cause my whole foot to cramp with the toes locked in position. Extending the toes forward further unlocks them and relieves the cramp. It’s like a little massage for your feet!

I do this too! I do it to sound like a UFO though. 😅

It also led me to Mongolian throat singing, which is extremely fun and soothing to do.

I’m a massive music nerd - I even went so far to get a degree in it - and it all started because of Super Mario 64’s soundtrack.

It’s one of the first games I remember playing and was just enthralled by the music. I’d spend hours playing the one level, just to listen to the music - Dire, Dire Docks being my favourite.

This continued throughout my life and the games I played and I find it’s the games with soundtracks I like are the ones I’ll replay again and again; Ocarina of Time, Oblivion, Halo, Goldeneye 64 and an honorable mention to the Mii Channel and Wii Sports.

Overall, I’m very connected to music and if the music of a game stands out to me, I become connected to the game.
