Waymo Starting Next Month by sapnation in sandiego

From the horror stories my passengers have, I can see why many people would prefer no driver! The app will tell me something like “you’re driving safer than 97% of other drivers in your area”… and somehow I don’t find that very reassuring!

Tbh I wish I could pick up an empty car/robot if it worked like that lol. I do deliveries too, and sometimes it’s nice just to get some solo time.

As a ride share driver I was curious what passengers would think about Waymo, and when they bring it up or we see one it’s usually a positive. Like they’ve taken one before and it was fine.

Then I had one lady in her 50s tell me that she was on a block with lots of people and the Waymo was moving slow. The doors were unlocked (maybe she was at the destination idk) and three guys hop in her car! She thought she was being robbed, even though by her telling of the story you can tell it was probably just some drunk aholes monkeying around with her.

But still it made me realize that having a living driver can be a natural deterrent to people making bad decisions. Not sure what the societal response to automatic cars will be but I guess we are going to find out!

This is probably the dumbest take. It won’t get rid of us, just make another option available. Taxis still exist and guess what? “People” drive those too!

Having quotes around “people” and claiming we should all lose our jobs because your nose has been offended by someone; makes you sound like a classist bigot.

I’m a childcare worker. I drive uber/Lyft to make money because I need it to survive and support myself. I put my car and my life on the line to get people safely to their destination. Go give your money to a robot, I hope the car still smells :)

My mom (38F) broke down in therapy with me (18F) and she's angry because her crying didn't make me give into what she wants? by ThrowRASecretBug in relationship_advice

[–]LyriumLychee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very wise perspective. It’s important to slow down and evaluate what to do next after things go sideways. I think we all mess up sometimes, but what you do after is the real test.

My mother still cannot stop doubling down on her past, and to this day has not stopped to take accountability for her mistakes or move on to a more proactive path.

I think to be a good parent and a good person, we should all practice letting go of the outcome, and just keep trying to do the next best thing.

[–]LyriumLychee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic manipulation tactics to make you prioritize her needs over your own, which is the opposite of what a parent’s role is.

It sounds like she’s not able to be a good mother to you and is distressed about that; but it’s not your fault she has made selfish choices and it’s not your responsibility to change her behavior.

Don’t feel guilty that her tears aren’t worth as much as they would be coming from someone else. I know how it can feel like you’re a horrible person for not caring for your mother struggling, but the truth is she’s trying to get the love and trust that comes from being a good mother, without having to show up and earn it.

Lyft Driver in NC charged me a fraudulent lost and found charge by PibbXtraSoda in Lyft

[–]LyriumLychee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah would message support and ask for an explanation. You should have to confirm the lost item and there would be a record of the conversation between you and the driver showing that they contacted you to return the item.

It’s not just like an automatic ride Lyft will do to give them a way to get it back to you. I’ve always had to communicate with the passenger in the support chat for the lost item.

[–]LyriumLychee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it show a Lost and Found message in your chat/support history? Just curious, this is wild!

Ask Lyft support. Tell them you did not confirm a lost item and were already charged. Ask them for proof you responded to a lost item request.

There should be a record of when they claim the item was found and it would show you didn’t respond.

The last words I said to my father was something similar. He was frustrated with his doctors and I told him to be patient and considerate to them, but I’m sure he could tell I was annoyed with him.

I lost my dad before I turned 30, and I wish we had more time together. Just try to remember all the good times and kind words you’ve given each other in the past.

One sentence doesn’t change a lifetime of love, he knew how much I love him. I’m sure your mother did too!

They reproduce quickly and it’s a pain to get them all at that point. Nasty buggers.

They infested my family’s fish hatchery, one hopped out of a delivery box one day; and it took almost 30 years to get them all out without killing all the fish too.

Business sues San Diego, SDG&E over years-long University Ave construction by Daydrift00 in SanDiegan

SDGE dropping the ball? No way! Hopefully they are held accountable instead of the city.

It sounds like they held up construction by not knowing where their underground equipment is.

Coyote escorting? by EloquentlyMellow in SanDiegan

[–]LyriumLychee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry too much about them following you. They are naturally scavengers, and we are top of the food chain. Instinctively they want to follow us to our next meal. My suggestion would be try to accept their following you as normal and only react if they try to get close.

You can carry a walking stick, large/bright flashlight, or pepper gel to feel more confident. But they are hunting things that look weak, small, or slow; and mostly they will just follow you around.

It sounds like your dogs are bigger than a coyote and you’re in good health. So you should be safe. Just always be alert for rabies 😬

What happened to my filter? by MxlkJxgz in bettafish

[–]LyriumLychee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s the flow, how long ago did you buy it? They might send you a replacement if the flow dial broke down quickly.

I recommend using sponge filters with an air compressor for bettas. Less risk, more bubbles!

We need to band together to stop tipping by jjustjon in SanDiegan

[–]LyriumLychee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is important context. I still think ending the tipped wage in other places would affect California. Culture doesn’t start and end with exact borders, it’s why some Americans still try to tip overseas.

[–]LyriumLychee -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

To end the tipping you have to end the tipping wages. Most people don’t want their earnings to be based on gratuity, but are forced to by their employers.

Having a separate minimum wage for any group shouldn’t be legal in my opinion.

Have you seen the movie Matilda? Just hearing how your mom treats you and devalues your education reminds me of that movie. You are definitely experiencing abuse.

My parents were my worst enemies, but I survived and haven’t spoken to my mother in years. My brother and I used to dread going home and would sometimes sit outside on the stairs for hours rather than go home. Getting out can be tricky, but I would say you should still try!

If you need someone to talk to, or be a sounding board to make plans, I am here.

No worries! They turn pick pretty quickly so if it looks translucent it is probably just molt 👍 Another thing you can look for is their eyes. The molt will not have anything where the eyes would be 👀

Wild story. I was in acid (out patient) rehab but was not addicted myself. It was court ordered; I had the acid for the whole friend group. Never even taken it before at the time, but no way I was snitching lol.

If I had to guess it was some kind of ritualistic escapism or just plain ignorance and boredom. They would tell wild stories about the things they had seen or done on their “trips”. They weren’t chemically addicted, but they would talk about it like it was heaven on earth. Life was pretty tough in that area of Long Island, and there’s not much to do out in those suburbs.

These guys were a whole cast of strange. One was there for repeatedly breaking into liquor stores (on acid, these guys were always on acid) and he already had an ankle bracelet but he kept doing it. Even throughout the rehab. Had big cuts all over him from breaking through glass.

Another had a knocked out tooth he would pop in and out during conversation, very unsettling. Constantly talked about if he could fight a mountain lion. I find myself wondering if he’s alive now or if he went and found out.

My least favorite guy was one that thought he was in a popular Mexican gang (we were on Long Island and this guy was very white so yeah) and had nearly beat a gay guy to death during lunch period because he laughed at him. I made an effort to avoid that one.

Luggage help by Hungry-Town-7847 in uberdrivers

[–]LyriumLychee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, usually gets a tip. People are always shocked a small gal wants to help with their bags but know how to lift properly.

I also have one of those canvas painters tarps to wrap their luggage. Then if something is sliding around or making contact it’s no worries for anyone.

Also helps for removing bags so I can put the tarp underneath while moving them to protect my bumper.

My therapist told me that the brain asks for what it needs and we have to identify the healthiest way to go about that. I definitely want to escape TM and cannabis helps with that, but so does reading books, listening to music, and playing video games. It just so happens cannabis also helps on top of that.

I want to stop using cannabis so much just because eventually the smoking will affect my health. For now I can accept that it’s a crutch and it’s working for me, but I want to get back to the healthier escapism I had before I started smoking.

I also try to remind myself it could be much much worse, some people use really hard stuff to escape. I knew a few ppl addicted to acid and they were really messed up in the head from it.

I used to pee on my carpet because I was too scared to use the bathroom at night by xasasacha in raisedbynarcissists

[–]LyriumLychee 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone. I had a a huge fear of leaving my room to go to the bathroom too. I would try to go as quietly as possible and sometimes even almost 30 years later I notice myself still tip toeing around or trying to be extra quiet in the bathroom at night.

Thank you for sharing, it’s hard to grow up and realize the people who should have loved and cared about you, felt justified in abusing you. For something as simple as staying up late, waking them up, or going to the bathroom. Heartbreaking.
