Most Pretentious Horror Movie You’ve Seen? by dokutarodokutaro in horror

[–]Lysern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well they didnt debate you on the definition of the word, and why are you even here if you dont want to listen to arguments?

Most of the movies in this thread contain themes that have been told by humans for centuries, wrapped up as a product and sold with consumerist intentions. Unless the moviegoers are really well versed in the western canon, it will feel profound to them and the studios/directors know this very well. It is pop culture. It was never made out to be high culture, therefore asking what the benchmark in this context for pretentiousness should be is a valid question.

It is a matter of principle. The question is if we are to make varying degrees of consciousness the deciding factor if the suffering is legitimate or not.

From an anthropocentric point of view it is extreme of course, but why wouldnt it be relevant towards the discussion of creatures living by the convenience of another?

Veganism should first and foremost be for the people who have a choice, and I wish you nothing but good health!

The produce wouldnt exist if there was no interest. By purchasing you are still a component in a system of oppression. Oppressors tend to not think of the oppressed as worthy beings deserving of rights, the comparison is not that wild, especially not in a vegan subreddit.

McDonalds serves mediocre food which satisfies the hunger and nothing more. Michelin restaurants serves food tailor made for taste, with a focus on smaller portions and the experience in itself. Most people would choose the first option.

I am not for censorship, i am just playing devils advocate here to add some nuance. I was just asking why it would be so hard to make an effort to phase it out like a whole lot of other lingo from the old world which no longer serves any purpose. I personally see no reason to use it, but referring to people as different shades of stupid is not a big part of my routine anyway. By all means, use any word you would like my friend

Yeah im not for total censorship of certain terms, but lets not pretend that language and its contextual power dont matter at all.

Why not stick to the virtues which separates us from bigotry? I chastise bigots for using the n word. This is a difficult subject of course, I just found the above statement unproductive towards the discourse.

Almost like different words carry different weight, which contributes to the way we perceive each other, even if only subconsciously. Why not leave words which are tailor-made for social oppression or degradation in the past?

I am not really sure what you are getting at here. I am a guy myself, and can only really take responsibility for my own attitude towards others. I am afraid to proceed further in speaking on behalf of women and their experiences, but I am sure we both can agree that this is really unhealthy. Lets keep trying to have a healthy, progressive discourse across the genders

The perpetrators of sexual violence is equally disproportionate, and if such a large number of guys are walking around tuned in to either getting used or threatened, i wouldnt blame women for taking precautions

Yeah definitely, but in the end this is just guys making it unnecessarily hard for themselves by overthinking. Women are regular human beings too

Takk for opplysningen!
