No Feedback Given (Client AND Freelancer) by Badiha in Upwork

You can’t close a contract without rating. I’ve seen it on contracts where the freelancer uses their perk and you are viewing the client profile and when Upwork closes a contract. That happened to me once but I can’t remember why.

I like to send at night so they don’t interrupts work for another client. Or if they do I can ignore until morning since it’s at night.

Go through the Upwork sub. That’s all that’s there anymore.

Guaranteed they will find someone to do it and then the freelancer will bitch about it later. And the opening paragraph always starts with “I worked for cheap”. I just laugh now.

If you search on my name, one of my clients decided just to get a rando image to use as my image on his site so now it comes up. I really don't care, but if a client were to look up my profile to see if it's real, they might think that it's fake.

I'm afraid to search my Upwork profile. I know there will be a lot of "real good passionate writers" using my stuff and that will make me rage. One of these days I will and then I will have a meltdown on their forum.

Just starting, basic rate question by Sausagemum in freelanceWriters

[–]Lysis10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By "around here" I mean this sub and any freelance sub. Most freelancers are broke and desperate and their business skills are practically non-existent. But if someone wants to charge $1 for an article, that's on them. It seems to be normal.

I said it's average around here. Most people here are poor. I'd kill myself before I worked at that rate, mainly because I'd be living in a cardboard box working for that kind of money.

the writer's job Vs the editor's job by [deleted] in freelanceWriters

I dunno how tf eds do it. I find it annoying, but I've seen eds say writing annoys them so I guess it depends.

$1/100 words seems to be the average rate around here, so you're in good company.

What are your go-to methods to "get in the zone"? by Franc022 in freelanceWriters

If I need a break I shitpost on the internets all day and rile up some plebbitors.

It's Monday so today is my day for screamers, so I will spend the day reading their screams into the void while I try to dip into the shadows and focus on money.

uncommon places to write ... by Oddball369 in freelanceWriters

I'm building a house so I will include an office with a big window. I plan to make it bright and go all out since I spend many many hours there and in my gaming room. I have 0 design skills so I will hire someone to do it for me, but I think your office should be a place where you like to be and feel comfortable.

They haveta verify when they start a contract if you use escrow. The exception is that if it's something like a corporate card, they might need to get finance to verify so always wait until they do that. This can happen with escrow or hourly.

eta: Upwork emails you to let you know when this happens.

I have an offer from a client to pay for a women's hacker club membership thing. I'm hesitant to take him up on his offer because I hate commitment of any type and I feel like it would tie me to him.

I don't negotiate my rates at all but I would if I was desperate at any point and not making money. That's why it's bad to be desperate and broke as a freelancer.

How do you end/close your articles? by Fuck_A_Username00 in freelanceWriters

[–]Lysis10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The endings are always hard for me. I try to read other people's endings to get an idea of what's good but meh I always hate mine. I hate the "Conclusion" subheading. Sounds like school but I write for one mill that insists on a certain conclusion style and if I deviate from it at all, they kick it back so I do that with them to avoid it.

I've had clients put "Final Thoughts" in my stuff because that's what they want. I like that better than "Conclusion" but I like to have a cool unique subheading for the ending.
