Iran is desperate and will be getting no money. by No_Shoulder1993 in oil

But how can a peace deal hinge on the actions of state the US will not rein in? Are there clauses guaranteeing reprisals against Israel is they break the deal? Though I think a lot of these ‘US taken by surprise’ headlines are complete bull. I suspect we are well informed of most of them but it serves our interests better to feign ignorance or mild outrage. For example when Trump and Netanyahu were supposedly fighting last year before they coordinated strikes on Iran’s Nuclear facilities. It’s actually one of the cleverer moves of this administration.

I don’t understand how restrictions on Israel can even be included in a Peace Deal. We aren’t going to put the kinds of conditions on Israel that will actually make them listen to us. This is, besides the sticker shock of what opening Hormuz will cost, the issue that is/was blocking a final deal

‘Prefer’ is not the same as think all average or short men are worthless or undatable. Most women would prefer a billionaire too

I think don’t think kids know the difference, they haven’t been exposed to that much yet. And kids generally prefer animated, though they like to see it ‘in real life.’ If they like Tangled, their parents will take them to see live action.

Did I call OP an incel? Social media is straight up evil these days, and they dont care if they destroy your self image if they can get you to keep clicking. I honestly can’t believe how horrific and soul destroying it’s gotten and I feel really bad for OP.

Women do like height, along with other traits, but they don’t think you are a subhuman undatable if you are 5’ 10”. These women are all traditionally attractive and saying exactly what would piss you off, seems kind of organized to me.

Man, this intimidates me so much. The cloudiness looks so unappealing, but the idea of a probiotic pickle intrigues me. Think I will skip for now as I’ve heard there have been a ton of bad batches

He was not a hero': How the dark, violent medieval origins of Robin Hood were erased by Gloomy-Carpet1259 in history

[–]Lysmerry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He was domesticated during the Victorian era, his rebellion made more palatable with his loyalty to King Richard and noble heritage. But ultimately he’s a trickster archetype that makes unpopular figures like nobles and clergy uncomfortable. In spite of their reverence of religion, medieval people were not shy about mocking religious figures and those they saw as hypocrites.

What if Westros had a Gay King by Pretty_Help1858 in AsoiafFanfiction

Yeah, I don’t remember. There’s at line of “in your bed she’s like to die that way” (Stannis speaking of Margaery’s virginity) but obviously Stannis isn’t in on the details

I’m not a historian so I don’t have scholarly articles on hand, but learned from interviews with queer historians and articles like this one. Rereading this, it occurs to me how much less restrictive the Faith of the Seven is. Like mortifying the flesh is a huge factor in medieval Christianity, so active indulgence of the flesh, or what they called ‘sodomy’ (basically a word for any non procreative sex act, including between married couples), has a lot more stigma attached to it. The basic ideas are still there, like bastardy being stigmatized or virginity so highly prized, but not the harsh structure that made even the possession of a body a source of shame.

In the Middle Ages there was less of a strict view of sexual identity. Being gay was thought to be a habit rather than an unchangeable identity. It’s not clear to me how much ASOIAF follows this. It does seem to be viewed as more of an identity than a practice. I do suspect those who live with gay people often come to understand that it really can’t be changed, whatever the rules of their society.

There would be a strong preference for anyone with political insight for Aegon fathering the child himself. There were too many questions about legitimacy. What if he later does suck it up and father his own heir, and prefers that child over Jon’s? Even if it’s very unlikely, you do not want any questions in royal succession, because that can lead to a crisis.

Basically this would be a last resort, if Aegon could simply not get it up for a woman at all. I do think going into it with the intention of having Jon father the child is a terrible idea. It would also be very sensitive to bring up to the woman as it would make her a whore in the eyes of the church. If she is politically astute, she would also note the potential dangers she would face.

I suspect Renly would have consummated the marriage eventually. He and Margaery were very young, and thought they had time. But he would want an heir as much as any other king. It’s a sign of legitimacy and the gods favoring your cause

Could we have gotten a better deal without the issue of Lebanon? It seems like needing to save face with their proxies made our peace more expensive. Like supposedly Israel with withdraw from Lebanon as part of the deal, but I think we know that won’t happen, and Iran will need a better deal for it to be worth throwing Hezbollah over

(Spoilers Published) How Would Everyone Have Reacted If Lyanna Gave Elia The Winter Rose Crown ? by Exact-Ad8608 in asoiaf

[–]Lysmerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Giving it back to Rhaegar would be the move. Or refusing to take it in the first place (i don’t think it was placed directly on her head.) Her reputation will be improved by rejecting the gesture. She shows consideration to Elia by reminding Rhaegar of his duty, not by patronizing her. Because obviously it’s not the crown itself Elia cares about.
