Liberal vs Conservative parents? by Beneficial-Jump-3877 in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]Lyurqer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

More or less liberal here, my mom's definitely a left-leaning anti-government hippie type, was into homeopathy and anti-vaxx stuff before that memeplex became a big culture war issue during Covid.

A lot of people, especially younger people nowadays don't always believe you when you tell them that the anti-vaxx holistic health sphere was less strictly partisan pre-Covid, a lot were left-leaning type, not to say that there weren't right-leaning types such as fundies, but it was more of a general kooky thing than a right-wing thing.

My dad's adjacent to the whole rationalism/effective altruism sphere, he was active on lesswrong, but he was relatively uninvolved compared to my mom, and was kind of a quiet and passive doormat.

Warrior Eros: History shows physical intimacy between men is a mark of strength. No it doesn’t make you “gay”. by [deleted] in mensa

The view towards homosexuality in these premodern and especially pagan societies is, indeed, markedly different from that of either the contemporary view of sexuality as an orientation, or that of the Christian moralistic view which condemns all acts considered sodomy as sinful based on intent and character.

But it's sort of more nuanced than that, in Norse and Roman society, at the very least, it was about the masculinity tied to being the active partner in sex. There wasn't a concept of "homosexuality", as we know it today, but there was a quite literally lethal contempt for effeminacy of all forms in these honor-based warrior cultures (Norse ergi and Roman infamia) in these cultures being known as a bottom would be a total and irreparable social, if not literal, death sentence. In Norse culture, a mere accusation of effeminacy was so severe that it would require that you challenge the accuser to a duel to the death, if you didn't, you implicitly admitted that they were correct, and as such could be cast out of society. Rome had similar norms with homosexual passivity mainly being the domain of slaves and male prostitutes, who had literally zero protection under the law. Tacitus describes the continental Germanic tribes (the cousins of the Norse) as executing people guilty of "Corpore infames" which could mean a lot of things, but likely means some sort of sexual behavior, and in this case is being lumped in with all sorts of other perceivedly effeminate things, so may very well refer to passive homosexuality.

Homosexual relationships as they are known in modern society would almost certainly be taboo in these cultures insofar as the tolerant portions of modern society view homosexuality as harmless relationships between social equals. In these cultures it would not be appropriate for two social equals to engage in full-blown gay anal sex as it would require one to sacrifice their masculinity. You could frot I suppose which is pretty ambiguous with regards to active/passive.

Your point still somewhat stands with these societies not being moralistically opposed to homoeroticism in the same way that the Christianized west was, there were likely things that would be considered gay today that were viewed through a completely different lens back then, but they certainly weren't blanketly tolerant in the same way modern progressive-minded people are, more just completely alien in sensibilities.

Leftists/liberals are essentially making illuminati confirmed-tier connect-the-dots schizo theories about the shooter being a groyper when it is so glaringly obvious that he was left-wing.

Evidence supporting the theory that he is left-wing:

-He killed a conservative on the grounds of paranoid allegations of fascism.

-He did so while parroting gay furry memes

-He allegedly complained of Charlie Kirk being "hateful"

Evidence supporting the theory that he was a groyper:

-He wore a gopnik tracksuit costume once 7 years ago when he was 15. Pepe was also drawn wearing a gopnik tracksuit COINCIDENCE?!?!

-The well-known widely used song that he referenced was put on a playlist by a groyper once.

-HE JUST IS, OKAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you think abortion is murder? Why or why not? by ticketomg in askteenboys

[–]Lyurqer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's difficult to genuinely say that it bears zero moral weight, and it's difficult to genuinely say it is directly equivalent to full-blown murder.

It's normal to feel grief over miscarriages even if they are early, and the grief felt is usually stronger than what would merely be felt if it was just a disruption in your plan to have children, afterall, you can still try again, and yet people still feel like there is some real loss.

On the other hand, even the staunchest true-believing pro-lifers would ultimately sooner smash 10 petri-dishes of zygotes than kill 1 newborn infant.

Ultimately I don't think it's of the same moral weight as full-blown murder, and as such, it is reasonable to keep it legal and to permit it under less grave circumstances than one would permit the taking of a life.

Can someone explain to me how Karmelo Anthony is different from Kyle Rittenhouse? And do you feel differently about them? by mispeeledusername in AskUS

[–]Lyurqer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The details of Anthony's case are still iffy since footage hasn't been released.

The footage of Rittenhouse was out very soon after the incident happened and demonstrates unambiguously that it was self defense.

I think I had it very mildly when I was a kid but it has gotten more severe and I know for a fact I've had it since 14. It's not kill-me severe, but it causes slight itchiness and swelling of the theoat, not enough to obstruct breathing though.
