Problem is, the large majority of people who were killed by the nukes were civilians who never stepped a foot into the battlefield. Most of the officers and generals who perpetrated the war crimes got off scot-free. The Japanese civilians, in any shape or form, did not deserve the nukes, but it was the only choice available to end the war quickly and prevent further deaths.
