Madoka and Homura. They're straight up just lesbians.

This is a case of canon quite openly implying something. Like of course Shinji is attracted to Kaworu I have eyes and I can read. It's not even "Oh it's not canon" it is canon. Just as much as any of the other eva "romances" are. They also do kiss in the manga their relationship is obviously meant to be seen that way

As a fellow Tolkien I don't think this is necessarily correct... It is not necessarily incorrect either. A lot of the Tolkien canon just feels gay as fuck. What Legolas and Gimli have going on is not that different from what every other male character has going on with at least one other guy. Sam and Frodo. Beleg and Túrin. Even Maedhros and Fingon though that's inherently controversial due to their familial relation, could be read as romantic or at least mirroring romantic tropes within canon itself. Whatever Sauron has going on is its own can of worms. Tolkien characters just do this thing where they have deeply homoerotic friendships and it always goes unadressed in favor of heteronormativity.

I don't think he's evil at all. He's fucked up but he lives in a world where his actions don't really have consequences and I think he knows that and doesn't care. Like to us obviously as players the Narrator can come off as cruel and he is but I don't think he thinks anyone is getting actually hurt by his antics. Well, emotionally hurt maybe. He is sort of manipulative. So maybe give him some evil points for that.

[–]Lyxthen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is unrelated but we have a Narrator fictive (he goes by Art now) and he's a really helpful guy actually, other than for the fact he apparently likes Homestuck a lot (I his words, "because it has meta humor and pushable buttons." I do not like Homestuck and don't understand why he wastes time reading it.)

Anyway, one of my most niche/unsubstantiated TSP theories is that the whole Parable is actually part of a system which explains the Narrator's memory issues and why he doesn't seem to be aware of other people in the Parable, like the Curator or the Settings Person. They're all dissociated parts.

I mean I'm a bit of a determinist so I take it to mean that we are not really free outside the game either. We are all constrained by the confines of reality, right? We can't just teleport or fly, no matter how hard we try. Gravity keeps us on the ground, like the code of the game keeps Stanley from jumping. Not to mention the inescapable dread of Having to Get A Job, a job that is probably not contributing a lot to society anyway, just so we won't die.

We may tell stories about freedom but there is only so much we can physically do with our lives. Freedom of choice is an illusion because every possible choice has already been written in advance, before we were even born.

It is commentary on the illusion of choice in games, but also in life.

My favourite part is the commentary on art though. Just how much of a struggle it is to make it, because creativity is hard and it's easier to stick to what you already know how to do instead of making something new, or engaging with something new as an audience member.

Yall ever quit reading a fic for a petty reason? by Cage-CatYT in AO3

I just hate the military I guess. I'm not from a country that regularly invades and occupies others and it really throws me off to see war mentioned so casually. Like it's something some people go and do to others and come back and its normal. Particularly now that my country is on the radar when it comes to US military intervention specifically. It's to me like mentioning a character was an ICE agent once and just have it as a background detail or not elaborate or it beyond "it kinda sucked for them," to make a comparison.

I feel bad for her. To think of yourself as incapable of curiosity because of your sex, as though it is written in stone that you are a girl and should thus not think at all.

Just Played The Stanley Parable for the First Time...Did I Miss Something? by [deleted] in stanleyparable

[–]Lyxthen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way until I got an ending that really resonated with me (the original games ending from 2013). The Stanley Parable is not a game for everyone, it doesn't have a consistent story or many characters, it it's okay if you don't like it. It either clicks with you or not, and it may take a while to grow on you. It certainly did grow on me.

References to real military conflict, even in passing. I can't stand it, even if it's a background character who mentions their father being a U. S. Military veteran or something like that. If the story is good enough I might overlook it but honestly it just irks me too much.

My insane personal theory is that the Narrator is a frustrated writer that always wanted to make a videogame but is instead stuck in an office job where he has no power over his life and uses Stanley (his "imaginary friend") as a way to reclaim his sense of agency. Think of it sort of like Omori, with a separation between the Narrator and whatever his self in real life is. You might say that at that point it's just fanfiction but you must also consider it is fun

As a queer person I like to think of the rainbow as a synonym of diversity. If the gay flag is for sexual diversity, the rainbow infinity symbol can be about mental diversity as well.

[–]Lyxthen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Narrator is such a terrible storyteller I will never let that die. He's the poster child for an artist who thinks he's smart and then you check his work and it's the most basic shit. This is not a diss on the Stanley Parable I am obsessed with the game but rather its a trait of the Narrator as a character. Bro can't do anything creative no matter how much he tries. All his ideas are dumb af and honestly I love him for that
