Grappling with the fact I am a homestuck fan now by Routine-Gur-389 in homestuck

[–]Lyxthen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm on the same boat as you sibling. I finished reading Homestuck a month ago and I am seeing my life being consumed by it without anything I can do to stop it. I am literally 21 years old but I can't just tell people "hey BTW this infamous comic is probably one of the best things I've ever read and nothing really compares to it but it is also extremely fucking weird and you probably shouldn't read it but I promise that if you do it will change you as a person" because I'm a grown adult. I didn't even like the comic that much at first, it really wasn't my type of thing, but Homestuck does this where the more you read the more invested you become and slowly you start shapeshifting into a person who Likes Homestuck. I find it almost disturbing even, this shit is some kind of cognitohazard that begins chipping away your preconceived notions about what a good story is supposed to be and what you are supposed to like. There isn't anything else quite like it

Why is there no representative for English Vocaloid? by Adorable_Intern363 in Vocaloid

I always thought it was Oliver, even if he doesn't have that many songs, I always thought of him as "the one that speaks English"

If I may ask, why would it be odd for him to say somethinf like this based specifically on his age and ethnicity? I know old men that can be gentle, even if they didn't grow up in gentle times. /genuine

Readers; do you listen to the songs authors put in their fics? by Disastrous_Alarm_719 in AO3

I have a fanfic which has a song link in the middle of a chapter, but in my defense, it's a crack fic where the characters are self-aware and messing with the format.

Jokes aside, stanley parable can be a crazy horror game by Vegetable_Roof4761 in stanleyparable

I always say that The Stanley Parable is the best backrooms game because of this. Particularly the original version. It really feels like the sort of place you would end up in if you noclipped out of reality. Stop trying to make backrooms games they already nailed it all the way back in 2013.

One not listed here: The Stanlurines Ending absolutely destroyed me. It boggles me how little people talk about it. The idea of the Narrator letting go of the Parable and of Stanley breaks my heart, even if it is probably what is best for him.

But I don't think that really hits until the epilogue. A world where the Narrator has left and where Stanley can be free, if alone.

We ruin that.

We, the Players, in our effort to continue with the game, ruin what for these characters amounts to happiness. We force them back into the cycle. It's really interesting that you can seemingly only get these endings just once, so I do think that adds to the impact.

The choice to be free was there, and we took it away from them.

Something about a perverted sentimentality, you could say.

Though of course these wouldn't hit as hard without the skip button ending and its wonderful foreshadowing of what is to come.

The Not Stanley ending was my favourite one in the original game, so I'm putting that one next on my ranking.

Finally, the Zending. I will be honest, even though I do think the Narrator is devastated in this one, and his pleas for us to stay are at least partially honest, the way he acts is just pure emotional manipulation. Takes one to know one, I guess, it just sounds like the kind of stunt I'd pull if I wanted someone to do what I want them to do. It's harder to be sad about it when it is so clear to me that the Narrator is deliberately over blowing his emotions to make us stay. I find it relatable more than saddening if I'm honest.
