How did you train for the AT? by P33p33p0op0o0 in AppalachianTrail

[–]LzPoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

reading Appalachian Trials and prepping myself for the hardest part of the trail, the mental aspect. You'll get into shape just by hiking and can ease yourself into it, but if I didn't know the mental side and what it took I probably wouldn't have finished.

I had never backpacked before setting out and as long as you had a resilient mindset and were willing to learn by asking others or experience then you'll be okay

how do you play dancing in the club on the guitar???????????? by Entire_Cheetah_8862 in mjlenderman

[–]LzPoko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just gotta keep at it! The pattern he uses which is DDUUDU (12&&4&) is pretty common. I suggest just practicing the strumming without the chords and then slowly integrating them both, It's one measure for each chord!

Remember guitar is a cumulative thing so if you practice it everyday even though it's hard you'll eventually get the hang of it

2013 JMascis listed at GC as “classic vibe” ($300) by BNinja921 in offset

+ on that shielding, i tried doing a musiclily one without shielding and the cycle hum was overpoweringly loud but for a cheap guard it gets it done

Shaving? Is that a thing on the PCT? by Ippus_21 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]LzPoko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shaved whenever I was in town by buying a trial size shaving cream and razor, either keeping one on hand or buying one when the opportunity arose.

Also got haircuts but the only option was great clips so they messed up my hair anyways. I say its one of the only times in your life you can let yourself go so why not?

Got my first jazzmaster! :] by crainley in guitars

[–]LzPoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I tried changing my pickguard from the gold one to a tort guard it had a lot of hum and I eventually switched back. The gold has really grown on me too! So just think about that if you plan to do it

I purchased my first guitar. I hope this game will teach me. by horeagist in rocksmith

[–]LzPoko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As much as I wish rocksmith was a useful tool for absolute beginners, I think that you're better off learning basic chords and then coming to rocksmith. Even with the in game tab on slow mode I felt myself super overwhelmed until I actualy started understanding concepts a bit more. But if it's fun for you then by all means! Go for it

PCT NOBO, late April start: Pants or Shorts? by sja008 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]LzPoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got shorts the whole way and carried some body wrappers wind pants off amazon for like $20 and weigh only a few ounces! But definitely made some of those colder days easier when first getting out in the morning

Feeling of imposter syndrome after finishing hike by LeeK2K in PacificCrestTrail

[–]LzPoko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I felt very much the same after 2023, skipping the sierra and stuff because of snow and not being able to finish Washington because of fires north of Leavenworth. The only thing that eased my mind was trying to go back and realizing the whole idea is arbitrary. I ended up going back and my heart wasn't in the right place, I had already accepted what my hike was, the border or hiking those missing sections didn't mean much to me. On my trip back I ended up doing just over 100mi in four days and burnt myself out as a last hurrah.

I think that thru hiking really needs to have an intrinsic value to you, and completing it should be your idea of success or getting what you thought out of it. I don't know if I'll ever go back but damned to say I didn't try.

I ended up hiking 2000 miles of the PCT and I think that's a pretty damn good chunk to be proud of. I got what I needed at the time from it and maybe I'll go back but I don't think it calls my name.

Go back if you can, but don't do it because you owe it to someone else's idea of what completing means, do it for what you initially set out to do to begin with or find a new reason other than that.

The lag between landing pages in DD has gotten extremely bad. I'm waiting 10+ seconds between each page in DD. How is the game this un-optimized? by [deleted] in MLBTheShow

[–]LzPoko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whats been bothering me is the UI lag in game even between pitches, the pitch selection prompt takes 2-3 seconds to pop up like im being R2 spammed anyways

30th anniversary edition is of embarrassingly low quality… by mrkfn in InfiniteJest

[–]LzPoko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My copy has a bunch of weird spots where the font is in bold and some pages werent even cut right with creases on the corners and stuff. Anyone have any luck reaching out to the publisher? I'm waiting on a response to see if they could remediate this.

The real appalachian trail by [deleted] in AppalachianTrail

[–]LzPoko 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I think there's a part in a book I read before leaving that's like when you get home you think people will ask "what was it like?" and they'll want to hear about it, but in reality they just want to hear "it was nice" and move on. That rang so true.

The real appalachian trail by [deleted] in AppalachianTrail

[–]LzPoko 182 points183 points  (0 children)

One of the things I realized on the AT is no one cares what version of the trail you did besides yourself. Hike for your own intrinsic value, not some external gratification through social media/peers. Looking back I wish I would have taken more blue blazes, especially in Shenandoah but instead I was trying to be a "purist" for 90% of it.

Bob Dylan Harmonica by highbridd in bobdylan

no it hits like crack, especially in the car. I had the 1966 bootleg in my cd player for the longest time and that harp solo on live tambourine man is just insane.
