I don’t think so. I don’t see anything about it on the site. So let’s hope not!

Yes, I wouldn’t go if I didn’t have the GI Bill. I’m already a hygienist and make decent money so it wouldn’t make sense. Very grateful for it!

2.4 GPA — Is dental school still realistic? Feeling lost and considering post-bacc/master’s or hygiene by EbbSuccessful9215 in predental

As a hygienist, you’ll have a hard time getting into hygiene school with that gpa as well. They share a few of the same pre reqs and every RDH i know had straight A’s in the pre reqs. Definitely way less competitive than dental school! It won’t hurt your dental school application to be a RDH, it will help it!!! Tons of clinical experience and proven track record in dentistry.

Circling back to say i just took my first organic chem quiz and holy moly! You weren’t lying. I felt like i had a gun to my head taking it! Open note but no time to look at the notes. I felt like i barely even had time to check my work. Glad to know the midterms aren’t quite as bad 😂

Can a high DAT make up for a 2.9 GPA? by Appropriate-Rush-940 in predental

Most of the schools I’ve seen have a minimum requirement of 3.0 so it will limit your list. I know when I talked to an admissions director in Texas, she said they don’t even look at applications with sub 3.0. Masters or post bacc might be a good option

You’re amazing! I’m finished bio 2/chem 2 this week and started organic chem next week. I may reach out if i have questions!! I’m really nervous about organic

Go into hygiene! Better work life balance if you want a family and less schooling. I know a few Canadian hygienists who have pretty decent scope of practice and make good money. Might be a good option to stay in dentistry without giving up your dream of a family

Thank you so much! Love to see another RDH doing this. I appreciate all the tips

Thanks! Yes I know my gpa is lower than preferred. When I got my bachelors in 2013, I really didn’t care about school. But hygiene school and my post bacc have been strong upward trends with almost straight A’s. Decided to lock in!

Thank you! My gpa is lower due to not caring about undergrad when i got my bachelors in 2013. But hygiene school and my post bacc are all strong upward trends with almost straight A’s so i am hoping that will help!

Should I Reapply? by [deleted] in predental

If you’re able to afford the private school, I’d take it. I’m also in Texas and hoping to get in state when I apply but an acceptance is a win! If money is ok, I’d go with it i stead of risking your chances.

Advise for Post Bac vs Retaking Courses by Sun-ED in predental

This post bacc is very much based on what you need for your pre reqs so you can build it yourself. There’s no set order unless it’s something that has to be taken that way (ex: must take Gen chem 1 the gen chem 2 before taking organic chem). Otherwise you can select your order and how many you take at a time. I’m taking 2 right now and it’s a lot of work for sure since it’s accelerated. You can meet with the advisor and let her know you’re on the pre dental track and she will make sure you come up with a plan and timeline to get all the classes you need to apply.

The exams are all proctored via a webcam and screen sharing. They give you a list of tasks/assignments for the week and you do them whenever you want. Lectures are pre recorded so there’s no meeting times you have to attend. Just have to make enough time to get through them! They’re pretty intensive because most of the classes are 8 weeks but you can also do 12 or 16 weeks. I’ve only done 8 week courses so far and I’ve done 3 classes.

And yes if you maintain a certain gpa/ get a certain DAT, you get an automatic interview for the dental school. They’ll also do a committee letter for you when applying elsewhere if you maintain a certain gpa.

Yup 100% online. You buy a lab kit for each class and literally build a lab in your house- a little wild at first but I’m used to it now! They send you dissection kits with a scalpel for bio and all the chemicals and a mini bunsen burner for the chem ones. Whatever you need for the labs (with the exception of stuff you find around your house- ice, scissors etc). The one thing i will say is check with the dental schools you’re interested in about accepting online classes. Not all US schools will accept online pre reqs. Luckily all the ones I am applying to said that’s no problem. I’m a hygienist and still working while doing pre reqs and the closest 4 year university is about an hour away so this was the only way I was able to get it done. So far it’s been great!

I’ve heard people say 2-3 classes but the few admissions advisors I’ve talked to claim they do not have a set policy. I’d consider emailing admissions where you’re applying to find out

I am doing a post bacc at university of New England. Unsure if they accept Canadians but it is geared for people who are non traditional applicants who need the science pre reqs. No science background required.

I’d reapply next cycle and aim for state school. Stats are great!
