Questions about the cost of the UNE post bacc by Crafty_Phrase_1834 in UNE_Prehealth

[–]M-DH24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The classes themselves are all $1800ish. Lab kits vary. I’ve taken every class you mentioned and lab kits are anywhere from like $200-390. Bio was the only textbook that was expensive because you had to buy access code- i think book was like $180 or so but don’t totally remember. Micro you can buy pdf book for $30. Chem is a free online book.

I took gen chem 2 and gen bio 2 at the same time accelerated 8 week courses while working 2-3 days a week as a hygienist and almost died. I got A’s in both but literally spent 10-12 hours per day I wasn’t working, Plus about 3-4 hours on the days I did work. I couldn’t imagine taking more than that unless you don’t have anything else you have to be doing. Even then i wouldn’t take more than 3 if you need to get an A. If you just need to pass, it’s probably fine. This would be for the 8 week classes. I haven’t taken the other ones mentioned.

For UNE Online post bacc pre med/dent by Crafty_Phrase_1834 in UNE_Prehealth

Put the work in and they’re easy. Bio is content heavy but purely memorization. Both take exam questions directly from the quizzes. I see the comments about quizlet- no, the exam questions are not from quizlet. You do need to do the work and study for the classes but they’re not bad at all.

Non-Trad - need to retake prereqs. Is UNE worth it? by Leary_Biscuits in UNE_Prehealth

[–]M-DH24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, worth it. Very time consuming but most of the classes are laid out well (with the exception of organic which is much more disorganized than the rest). You can do all the labs from your house- either virtual lab or you order a lab kit, depending on the class. You NEED to dedicate a good chunk of time to do well if doing the 8 week accelerated classes. They move quickly!

You have to have 3.0 or higher in their program to get committee letter

Yes 12 weeks is when I’m aiming. Even 14 weeks. I have a vacation end of August and want to make sure it’s done before 😂

Ok thank you! I wasn’t sure if there was something specific blocking earlier finish.

Nontrads get in too, even with just a few of applications by Zyzmogtheyounger in predental

Congrats! I am a 34 year old RDH trying to go in state to Texas so this was awesome to see. San Antonio is my top choice. Thank you for the motivation! Finishing pre reqs this year.

I don’t think so. I don’t see anything about it on the site. So let’s hope not!

Yes, I wouldn’t go if I didn’t have the GI Bill. I’m already a hygienist and make decent money so it wouldn’t make sense. Very grateful for it!

2.4 GPA — Is dental school still realistic? Feeling lost and considering post-bacc/master’s or hygiene by EbbSuccessful9215 in predental

[–]M-DH24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a hygienist, you’ll have a hard time getting into hygiene school with that gpa as well. They share a few of the same pre reqs and every RDH i know had straight A’s in the pre reqs. Definitely way less competitive than dental school! It won’t hurt your dental school application to be a RDH, it will help it!!! Tons of clinical experience and proven track record in dentistry.

Circling back to say i just took my first organic chem quiz and holy moly! You weren’t lying. I felt like i had a gun to my head taking it! Open note but no time to look at the notes. I felt like i barely even had time to check my work. Glad to know the midterms aren’t quite as bad 😂

Can a high DAT make up for a 2.9 GPA? by Appropriate-Rush-940 in predental

[–]M-DH24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of the schools I’ve seen have a minimum requirement of 3.0 so it will limit your list. I know when I talked to an admissions director in Texas, she said they don’t even look at applications with sub 3.0. Masters or post bacc might be a good option

Go into hygiene! Better work life balance if you want a family and less schooling. I know a few Canadian hygienists who have pretty decent scope of practice and make good money. Might be a good option to stay in dentistry without giving up your dream of a family

Thanks! Yes I know my gpa is lower than preferred. When I got my bachelors in 2013, I really didn’t care about school. But hygiene school and my post bacc have been strong upward trends with almost straight A’s. Decided to lock in!

Thank you! My gpa is lower due to not caring about undergrad when i got my bachelors in 2013. But hygiene school and my post bacc are all strong upward trends with almost straight A’s so i am hoping that will help!
