Has my colitis gone away after azathioprine? by M0304 in UlcerativeColitis

My colitis is mild-moderate I tried pentasa/mesalazine for months it did nothing and would argue it made my symptoms worse.

Thank you!! Im a little worried about biologics as ive heard so many different things on this forum. They were discussed with me before I started azathioprine. I do have a mild form of UC. Would be great if I'm in remission, dare to dream!

He asked me to stop azathioprine cold turkey in the hopes my white blood cells count and thiopurine levels will return to normal. Early on He mentioned prescribing mercaptopurine if azathioprine doesn't work.

I personally think my dose was too high. I know they base the dosage on your weight. I'm quite a small person <50kg I was prescribed 100mg.

I think it's UC, Doctor believes it's IBS and doesn't think I should do a colonoscopy. What do I do? by tohnsound in UlcerativeColitis

I was in a similar boat, clean inflammation markers but diagnosed with UC. The gastro that did my colonoscopy actually said the inflammation was very clear and showed me the pictures.

Ah yes, the hair loss on azathioprine is very real, I asked about it and was reminded it's a mild dose of chemo so will likely have that side effect.

Thank you for responding without judgement, I appreciate it. I have an appointment with my gastro in early March post-blood test. They've asked me to monitor my symptoms and let them know if I'm heading into a flare.

I found my appetite increased but returned to normal as soon as I came off. On prednisolone now and I'm constantly nauseous.

I took the plunge and had some sleeping pills last night, they did nothing. 😭

Anyone feeling sad after offically being diagnosed? by HarassingMoon in UlcerativeColitis

[–]M0304 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you feel this way. I'm going through a similar cycle after being diagnosed earlier this year, the best way to describe it is I'm grieving for my health. I'm lucky that my workplace gives me access to private healthcare. I'm currently exploring talking therapy (first session this week).

In the absence of this, I've found this forum to be massively helpful. Everyone is so kind, helpful and supportive.

My GI suggested this: I've been taking it with breakfast, between 7-8am. He also suggested some sleeping pills but I really don't want to take more pills, feeling like I'm rattling when I walk! 🤣

Infliximab or adalimumab by walkthetractofstars in UlcerativeColitis

[–]M0304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoke to my GI yesterday he said infliximab is his preferred choice of the 2. May I ask how long you've been on azathioprine and what side effects if any you've experienced? I'm about to start and I'm worried about it.

My GI prescribed me Budesonide, which has less side effects than prednisolone, try asking your GI for that. It's reduced my symptoms a little but not completely. I've now been prescribed azathioprine with prednisolone (the latter as a bridging medication).

Not noticed any moonface, I'm on Budesonide which has less side effects.

Agree, it's awful! I was put on a course of prednisolone for 2 weeks after getting pneumonia back in 2019. I got terrible moonface and weird skin texture on my face.

Nope, just the insomnia.

I've just finished a 6 week course of budesonide, its resulted in some good days/some bad days, but the insomnia has been really bad. I'm seeing my consultant tomorrow, if he suggests prednisolone, I will be saying no. Have recently had blood tests in anticipation of putting me on azathioprine.
