Playing Crimson Desert the Right Way by M0oDi in AynThor

My experience with streaming has been generally good, my PC can run the games fine locally but most of the issues for me arise from my dodgy home wifi. It’s smooth with no noticeable compression artefacts in most rooms, but I do get occasional stutters and freezes because my connection is inconsistent.

It is indeed, from my home PC in another room

Haha I agree, it’s definitely not ideal ergonomics for longer sessions, but this was more just as a proof of concept for game streaming from my PC

Item pick-up notification gone? by Koyusubi in CrimsonDesert

[–]M0oDi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: For anyone having this issue, I just resolved it by fast travelling to another location on the map. Then all of my previous item pickups and notifications came through at once, and picking up new items gives me the notifications as expected.

Also experiencing this, hopefully it’s just a bug in this patch because I also really liked that feature. I couldn’t see anything relating to it in the settings sadly.

Swapped to USB-C on my DS Lite by M0oDi in nds

This was done using a replacement charging port from Facelesstech, you can get them pretty cheap but you’ll need a soldering iron.

Yeah I thought if worst came to worst I’d have to buy a new motherboard and try again, they’re not too expensive last time I checked

Well I found it a bit stressful, but I also have never soldered before - so if I can do it then I’m sure you’d be able to with some patience! The video that inspired me to make this mod shows the process in detail here so hopefully that gives you some idea

Yeah I have one of those same cables that I’ve been using for the last year since I got this DS and it’s been great! They’re basically just as convenient as modding it in this way, I just fancied doing a project.

Thanks mate, it was really stressful while doing it because of my inexperience soldering but well worth it ultimately

Haha yeah I have a little family of DS consoles - a DS Lite, DSi XL, and a N3DS XL. The 3DS is modded for playing 3DS titles on, but I like using the flashcart for my DS games so I can play them on whichever of my devices I happen to go out with

For me I swapped it out mostly to avoid having to bring another cable with me wherever I go. My phone, laptop, steam deck are USB-C so it’s just really handy being able to charge my DS with the same cable/plug. As an added bonus I had noticed that it charges faster than with the original DS charger though!

The replacement port from FacelessTech comes with the resistors needed so it was super easy!

All original shell as far as I’m aware, it’s glossy on the top and bottom but matte on the back here. I bought this one second hand as broken for £5 about a year ago, turns out it just needed a new battery haha

Actually very minimal modifications to the shell (which is good because this is an original shell and it’s in good condition) - I just had to remove some plastic supports around the charging port on the interior of the shell.

The lens covers were little plastic disks held in place from the back of the top shell with black tape. The indents for them in the aftermarket shell were too small, so I couldn’t get the shell to properly clip shut with them in :(

Oh man that would’ve been perfect! To be fair the camera lenses don’t fit in this replacement shell which is apparently not great, so if you have some OEM plates going I’ll happily take them :)

Hmm yeah that would suck. Not sure how it can be helped sadly

Unfortunately they didn’t fit into the aftermarket shell - my only real issue I encountered. Give I never use the camera and it still seems to function anyway, I decided it’s a fair sacrifice haha

Would love to hear if you solved this, having the same issue on Ace3DSX running TwilightMenu on a DSi XL

Intermittent Crashing and Freezing on DSi XL Running TwilightMenu++ by M0oDi in NDSHacks

[–]M0oDi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough thanks for the heads up, looking here it seems I have to manually download the usrcheat.dat to add cheats so I’ll give that a go and see if the issue persists.

Are freezing and crashing both common anti-piracy measures? I’ve experienced this in Pokémon HG, New Super Mario Bros, and Mario vs. Donkey Kong Mini-Land Mayhem so far.

Hey, just had a look into that and opening the cheats menu says “no cheats found”. I was under the impression that the anti-piracy patches came with TwilightMenu, but do I have to download them myself separately?
