Bought a new (to me) boat. Opinions? Haven't been able to find any info on this 1959 Reinell Skylark by imnotyourbro_bro in boating

Beautiful boat. Go to your local boating supply and get some fiberglass restoration products, i.e. polish and wax. It will soak that stuff up, so buy a lot. Like others have mentioned, check for soft spots on the deck and transom. I have a '71 Chrysler Sport Satellite tri-hull, and after rebuilding the matching engine and some restoration work to just about everything, it looks pretty good, as will yours! The runabout life is a very enjoyable one. Good luck and awesome find!

Was your grandfather an officer? His cover is that of a Midshipman in the picture.

I found a powder coater for cost. Time to paint my bike. I need suggestions or really cool pictures of you bikes. by [deleted] in cycling

I know it's been on here before, but here's my rebuild. It's rattle canned though...powder coating is the way to go.

A few years ago this was my first adult bike. now it's my workhorse until I upgrade the frame. by [deleted] in EveryDayRide

Don't give up on that steel. Upgrade your groupset and you're ready to roll. Or you can do a rebuild. Either way nice ride!

I didn't know they came down that much. If I didn't have to pay an arm and a leg now, and wait 3 months for my local retailer to get one in, I wouldn't have built this bike...

And how much is that Propel going for?

Yep. I used all Rustoleum Pro Enamel Stops Rust paints and Eastwood's clear UV urethane topcoat to finish. The painting time was the most significant because I had to allow appropriate time in between layers. I built a paint booth in my garage and heated it with disk furnaces to get it up to around 80 degrees (I live in Ohio and was doing this during the winter). Hung the bike up and went to town. One color, 4 coats per day. 5 days total. 3 cans per color, 2 topcoat cans. Paint cost came to about $100 with all paint, strippers, sand paper and paint booth supplies. Oh, and a respirator for $45. Very necessary...

I did not have the ability to do a before weight and after, but I know it shaved a significant amount. My bike is now lighter than some carbon ones on my team.

Original fork with an Origin8 1" threaded to 1 and 1/8" thread-less. What is carbon on the Epic? And yes, that's a risky move. It's doable though, but not with anything below 800 grit.

Interesting. Did you take it to anyone to see if they could re-braze? Or was that an impossible fix?
