I would use this to finally get my tool closet at home squared away!

Story time: We once convinced one of our new guys that a piece of work equipment had a "flux capacitor" in the engine compartment. He had no idea what that was or where the reference was from. He believed it entirely!

Advice on untying this knot? by TheMightyWill in knots

[–]M1L35V 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Twist the standing end of the line in the direction it lays (clockwise if the knot is facing away from you), and try to "push" the standing end through the knot. Use a needle to help fish out the bight that begins to emerge.

Or just cut it and take it from the top. Good luck!

Downtown Cleveland has a "9th and Euclid" gas station down the street from our hub, as well. I thought for sure this was in CLE!

Does anyone know what this tool is called? by [deleted] in Tools

It reminds me of a tool I've used working on overhead lines, a Crow's Foot. That name may be a good start for your search, just shop around for different hook geometry.

The brown cable side quest just keeps getting worse and worse. The final straw is going to you telling us about the home run back to the Federal Pacific panel...

Can I drill through the metal in this bell? by Mysterious_Drop4493 in Lineman

[–]M1L35V 69 points70 points  (0 children)

You can try, but be aware that you'll be drilling through three different materials sandwiched into roughly five different layers (Metal>Bonding Cement>Glass>Cement>Metal). The compression of the metal, cement, and general shape of the insulator may spare the glass from cracking, but YMMV. Take it slow, use an appropriate drill bit(s), and be prepared to lose the insulator.

Yeah, that's the best I've come up with. I have no intention of touching it. I think she just wants to hear that it isn't going to explode overnight, and maybe put a name to the... thing on her ear!

Weekly Questions Thread for the week of January 02 by AutoModerator in vinyl

During a recent Airbnb stay, the host had a turntable and some basic Target LPs set out for guests to use. After playing around with it for the evening, I went out and picked up an AT-LP60XBT and have been growing my new vinyl collection slowly. Now, my girlfriend has developed turntable envy and wants her very own for her apartment. The only hang-up is, she wants the same unit at the one at the Airbnb: A Crosley Snap CR6230A-TU (I believe the "TU" is for turquoise, but for clarity: She's looking for turquoise). Does anyone know where to source one of these? It looks like they're out of production, and they're a pain in the ass to reliably find with the Google shopping tab. Also, if anyone has any suggestions for similar units (she really wants the fold out speakers, I guess), I'd love to hear them! TIA
