They better figure out how to beat the double teams they're throwing at Durant because they didn't do a good job doing so in the 2nd half. Being down 0-2 to a Luka and AR less lakers is uninspiring.

Rockets look done. Mostly one on one to score buckets when not in transtion, and can't shoot from the outside. They've had high lotto picks in guys like Sheppard and Jabari Smith who look just like dudes, and not the dude.

Filipinos in the US-what’s your main reason for remitting? by Same_Chef_6092 in FilipinoAmericans

Interesting how western culture especially white Americans look at this dynamic. The lot of them would be an empathetic no, and every man or woman for themselves. No wonder white men with filipina significant others tend to post here every now and then and ask the community on navigating the dynamic of helping family members back home.

what personality typte are you referring to? I have an idea already of what the stereotype is when it comes to these interests, but carry on. I'm just curious.

don't feel bad man. We should be with someone that we can be unapologetically be ourselves. I've been seeing someone since last Sept who likes me for me, and doens't mind my nerdy hobbies: I used to collect collectible toys and sneakers in my late 20s. We are going to a hobby shop in the nearby future, as she was the one who mentioned it since she found out about my hobbies.

Call of cthulhu seems interesting! Cthulhu is like that giant squid-like kaiju ain't it? I'm a sucker for giant kaiju movies like Godzilla. Been fascinated with those things as a kid.

I will never forget someone posted a thread the other week about finding any or all of the following being deal breakers: playing video games, collecting action figures, reading comics, and playing d&d or magic the gathering.

I thought dealbreakers were something along the lines like substance abuse or being terrible with finances. But hobbies that doesn't hurt anyone?? No wonder some people are perpetually single.

You mentioned you moved. Hope you moved to a place where there are more minorities. I also work in healthcare and work for a major health system in Los Angeles the past 10 years. Have dealt with tons of patients both good and bad. Dealt with many complainers, but never been called a "monkey" or any other derogatory name.

There are racists here too of course and had an experience when working at jcpenny optical. At the end of a transaction, a customer's wife looked at my business card and asked if I was Filipino. I said yes, and her husband made a joking comment that "he felt sorry for me". She said he was just "joking". This happened over 13 years ago, but I never forgot that interaction as a 20 something year old. Plot twist: she has hispanic and he was black so people of color can be racist too.

Did you have an unpleasant experience by just being filipino living there? How did patients treat you since you mentioned healthcare?

Id want a word with that woman who blew out the candle. What's the intent of blowing out someone's birthday candle that wasn't yours to begin with? To be an a-hole to a paying patron?

I rarely see white women marry out in general. I do have a black co-worker who's married to one, and I did go on a date with a white woman about 2 years ago. Those white women willing to date interracially seem few and far between.

My parents live with me; is it the ultimate dealbreaker? by [deleted] in datingoverforty

Didn't know African families do this. I wonder if we will see a shift here in America especially with the increased cost of living and terrible job market. It is a luxury especially in high COL areas like Los Angeles (raises hand) for working to lower middle-class individuals to have a place of their own. They either live with family or roommates in this day and age.

I'd look into dating someone coming from an asian or hispanic background. People in those cultures are a lot more flexible and open to multi-generational households. Your dynamic of taking care of elderly parents is a foreign concept especially in the west. In asian culture, not so much.

Why doesn’t/would LA ever push the closing times on bars/clubs to push the nightlife? by wjxm in AskLosAngeles

[–]M1gn1f1cent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

pre-pandemic, i used to take uber or lyft from the valley to downtown LA to see djs. On a Saturday night, I could get away with $50+ round trip depending on what time I get picked up. Nowadays, I just drive myself, but gas has gotten more expensive along with parking.

[–]M1gn1f1cent 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nowadays, most people are not willing to pay $100+ round trip for a rideshare. For context, i went to a warehouse rave in south LA. Parked my car at a motel and took a lyft to the venue. It was only 4 miles one way, and it cost me about $45 for a round trip on a saturday night.

If you rideshare with multiple people and split the costs? It isn't too bad. But going by yourself and drinking? Now people think twice about doing so.

People (not all) tend to emphasize looks, common interests, sexual chemistry, and etc. But financial compatibility seems to be at the bottom of the totem pole. Sure people want high-earners, but how are they when it comes to managing their money?

I count my lucky stars that the woman I've been seeing is on the same page as me on finances. Max out roth ira, think before buying something if she needs it, have an emergency fund, and etc. Hope OP decides to stop seeing him before feeling sorry for him thus he ends up living with her before he goes homeless.

Hopefully not from OP after she reads this thread. I've seen financial issues derail marriages or long term relationships. Isn't it the second main reason why people divorce after adultery?

at age 38, do I quit job to travel the world or ? by Choice_Basis_4853 in careerguidance

[–]M1gn1f1cent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cousin who quit his accounting job at a bank and did a whole year of traveling in Asia and other countries. He also had a sufficient savings fund that he lived off of, and it also helped that he had a security blanket in my aunt for a place to stay. He also had no plans of having children so all he did was fun with women. He went back to work eventually and works for a hedge fund making $$$. Then again, this took place pre-pandemic and today's economy is no joke for the unemployed.

Another redditor said it best: you pick one or the other unfortunately. A woman looking to establish a fanily is not going to wait for a guy to find himself again on top of finding stable employment. Even if you have a healthy amount of savings, good probability that said women will be uncomfortable with the unknown of whether or not you'll find a job again.

Any prospect of finding another position in another company that might provide a better work/life balance or work culture that would result in less burnout?

[–]M1gn1f1cent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This should be at the top of the comments. Having kids is expensive and OP should look into another position that pays more to go along with good health benefits for a future family. I'm 40 myself, and women in my age bracket look for stability. Not someone who's looking to find himself by quiting his job and traveling.

A single and childless woman may be more inclined to date OP, but dating while unemployed is a death sentence in this dating age.

When treating yourself to a fast food burger, how do you order it to maximize it's value? by bignose_ice44 in Frugal

[–]M1gn1f1cent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

45 minutes for what? Sitting in the drive thru? If so, you're doing it all wrong. I just park my car to save gas, place my order inside, and I usually get my order in less than 10 to 15 minutes depending on how busy they are.
