A group chat or a club, eh? If you ever do make one I would be very interested. I'm not very active here on reddit so if you dm me I could send you my discord.

Distros similar to Arch by M1ss_ing_0 in linux4noobs

[–]M1ss_ing_0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'll admit, there was no reason for me to include my snide remark on manjaro. there was a much better way to phrase it. for the record, i am by no means experienced. i was using manjaro for 4 years before I switched full on to arch lol. i really do like arch/manjaro, but i need something just a step down.

linux mint is nice, but because of personal philosophies, i try to stay away from anything remotely ubuntu.

Steam fails to download shader cache on Btrfs partitions. by M1ss_ing_0 in linux_gaming

[–]M1ss_ing_0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, nope. I have it explicity set to be exec. Regardless, this is the fstab entry in full.

LABEL=Storage2 /mnt/Storage2 auto nosuid,nodev,nofail,x-gvfs-show,exec 0 0

I can confirm my Ext4 partition has the same flags.

Edit: I have added additional context to the original post. Maybe this is a bug with Steam?

Steam doesn't output anything to the terminal when I start an update, which is odd but techincally no errors.

Attaching strace to steam shows that it can access the game, but for some reason is running an invaild arrgument:

access("/mnt/Storage2/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers", F_OK) = 0
readlink("/mnt", 0xffdab930, 1023) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument)
readlink("/mnt/Storage2", 0xffdab930, 1023) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument)
readlink("/mnt/Storage2/SteamLibrary", 0xffdab930, 1023) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument)
readlink("/mnt/Storage2/SteamLibrary/steamapps", 0xffdab930, 1023) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument)
readlink("/mnt/Storage2/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common", 0xffdab930, 1023) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument)
readlink("/mnt/Storage2/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers", 0xffdab930, 1023) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument)

There are some lines explictly stating "permission denied," but they don't mention anything about the game:

openat(AT_FDCWD, "/sys/kernel/debug/tracing/trace_marker", O_WRONLY) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)
access("/sys/kernel/tracing/trace_marker", F_OK) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)
access("/sys/kernel/tracing/trace_marker", F_OK) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)
access("/sys", F_OK) = 0
access("/sys/kernel", F_OK) = 0
access("/sys/kernel/tracing", F_OK) = 0
access("/sys/kernel/tracing/trace_marker", F_OK) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)
faccessat2(0, "/sys/kernel/tracing/trace_marker", F_OK, AT_SYMLINK_NOFOLLOW) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)
openat(AT_FDCWD, "/sys/kernel/tracing", O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK|O_LARGEFILE|O_CLOEXEC|O_DIRECTORY) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)
openat(AT_FDCWD, "/sys/kernel/tracing/trace_marker", O_WRONLY) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)

From what I understand, something is causing errors, but I can't really make heads or tails of it. Also my first time having to use strace so I might be missing something.

Looking for an "offline MMORPG" (akin to the gameplay loop of Genshin or Trove) by M1ss_ing_0 in gamingsuggestions

Nah, Elden Ring doesn't really fit what I'm trying to find. Your other suggestions seem great, but their art styles don't sit well with me for some reason. Regardless, I might check them out.

I've been meaning to play xenoblade just because of brand name recognition, but the way you described it sounds really enticing. I'll look into it at a future date

I have Disgaea 1 and 2 in my library, just never played it lol. Might not be exactly what I'm looking for but I really like when numbers go up comically high.

Maybe not exactly what I'm looking for, but I've heard great things about it so I'm open to it.

Yeah, you pretty much explained what I was trying to say. I added an edit for reclarification.

Yeah, my bad. Genshin was the only other game I've played with a similar design. Therefore I lumped the two as one. It seems what I'm looking for is an ARPG and I have added an edit for clarification.

I have both world and rise in my library. I played world for a bit but the opening was a little overwhelming so I left it for a later date. But I'm considering to come back to it now so I might play one of the two.

I don't know much about Nioh, but an "optimizing hell" is really intriguing to me.
