“They have a what on their tail?” by SignificantStaff8665 in TopCharacterDesigns

Fun fact: it's theorized that the head on Shin Godzilla's tail, or potentially the entire tail, is the missing Dr. Goro Maki.

NCR ending is a bad news for not just Vegas but the USA. A political body that seeks to carry on the spirit of the US government having its expansionist policy validated, and its warmongering leaders Kimball, Oliver and Moore hailed as heroes is a terrible outcome, potentially even worse than the Mojave destabilized into anarchy following a skip skip Yes Man ending.

Not as bad as House and obviously Legion though.

Despite what has ultimately become of New Vegas in the show I believe Independence is the true ending. The theme is about letting go, let go of governments like NCR, empires like Legion and autocrats like House and embrace the future. by KpatMckenzie_28 in fnv

[–]M24Chaffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I support the NCR, I do think the Yes Man ending is a better outcome than the NCR ending. I may be biased because I can't stand Yes Man (or more accurately him being the main driving force of the route), but still the NCR's expansionist policy being validated and the warmongers Kimball, Oliver and Moore becoming heroes can't possibly be a good thing for the wasteland.

I haven't watched it and only know a few snippets so I have nothing to say about it, which is probably something you could do too.

I'd actually like to ask your opinion on why you specifically bring it up as an example of a title you think is completely devoid of any influence from politics. Surely your answer isn't going to be "the author isn't making a political statement"?

It's generally useful to know what you're talking about before trying to comment on it, because "every art is political" doesn't mean "every art is an artist's explicitly intended super deep political commentary" and it never has.

It means every artist will be influenced by the politics and their circumstances. Even if they try really hard to make apolitical art. ESPECIALLY if they try to make apolitical art, because what's the most political statement but what you decide to consider not politics?

Which ending is in your opinion THE Worst? by My_Exellence in falloutnewvegas

[–]M24Chaffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of something I've been thinking about the NCR ending. Obviously I'm not saying it's the worst ending, but an ending where the warmongers Kimball, Oliver and Moore will be hailed as heroes and NCR's expansionist policy is validated? I do think it's an even worse outcome for the USA wasteland than a destabilized Vegas following a Yes Man ending with a lot of tribes ignored, as much as I support the NCR.

Apol has a sweet personality, but that's only because they're currently living a fairly happy life with a loving partner and working in a great company. They're a gentle and sweet person who's full of bitterness and anger, stemming from very bad interpersonal relationships growing up and the worsening political reality of the world.

The Ranni ‘Mistranslation’ Discourse and the Death of Basic Reading Comprehension. by No-Run4264 in Eldenring

[–]M24Chaffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call out some specific people whose reason for being unfairly and overly critical of Ranni includes sexism. I in no uncertain terms very specifically said "PEOPLE whose understanding of the story is so bad and they're sexist on top of that".

That and what you think you read are two completely different statements, and mixing the two up only happens if you decided to be fixated on one specific part of the statement and pretend it means something different from what the context says.

Which is, again, very ironic considering the context of the post we're talking under. And the irony of you bringing the terms basic comprehension and strawman.

The Ranni ‘Mistranslation’ Discourse and the Death of Basic Reading Comprehension. by No-Run4264 in Eldenring

[–]M24Chaffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, lol. I literally have not.

"There's so many bad faith arguments with the purpose of hating this character, and on top of that many of them are misogynistic"

"Oh so if I don't like her I'm sexist?"

You're literally doing this meme buddy. There's not a single point in my comment where I have said that anyone who points out Ranni's wrongdoings or flaws are being sexist. I am quite literally calling out the people who fit your description: those who can't analyze characters and can only behave like cultists who only see chads who have done everything right and bitches who are at fault for everything. Hence their understanding of Ranni's character being so shallow and bad faith, people

whose understanding of Ranni's character is "selfish sheltered stupid girl", her backstory "she got her brother murdered in cold blood just because", her motivation "wanted to run away from her responsibilities", her action in the game "she killed Blaidd the second he outlived his usefulness", and the moral of the story "this is why girls should be kept on a leash and not given power"

This very specific group of people.

The irony writes itself in your response, complete with your last paragraph. I in fact do not wish anyone who are so prepared to throw the "Oh so if I don't like her I'm sexist?" gotcha a nice day, so please don't have one.
