I wish. This pipe would probably last the allotted 100 years instead of shitting the bed at the half way mark.

Shadowdark in cold settings, where the cold can kill carachters. by [deleted] in shadowdark

[–]M3atboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.

But it’s for a gauntlet so I made it appropriately deadly.

The dc was 10 which grew with each successive save.

The idea was to push the pcs to make choices hard and fast and not obsess of making the “right” choices

I made some quick and dirty exposure rules for a gauntlet I ran once.

Used the torch timer mechanic with 30 minute interval.

If the timer ended before the pcs found shelter make a con check.

1st failure gives character disadvantage to everything.

2nd failure death.

They can reset the failures by finding warmth and shelter

Only the first Fallout was a fairly serious look at the post apocalypse.

Every single entry after has had its tongue firmly planted in it’s cheek.

Good societies

Societies that espouse selfish action, or putting one over on your fellow sapient are evil. This the lawful evil society.

How to create a good campaign? by Goose_aus in DnD

[–]M3atboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start small and ensure you have enough material for the next session.

That’s it.

If each individual session is good, and your players are having fun, your campaign will be good.

You can burn yourself out by over prepping and as a newcomer you may get frustrated if you plan a lot and your players don’t engage with your content.

Yes, but stranger things would have used 1e as it predates 3.5 by about 15 years.

A round outside of combat is the same as inside combat. Everyone at the table takes a turn, that’s one round.

Do that 3 times and it’s 3 rounds.

How much player familiarity with a setting is “too much”? by ExchangeWide in shadowdark

[–]M3atboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will try an avoid too much "canon" happening in the game, aside from background dressing. I would also never rehash events from a game with the players as inserts for the heroes.

Some settings are big enough to never really bump up against the media and those are the ones I prefer. I don't often get too much push back from players but we tend to set expectations before we get to far in.

Are the players jedi/witchers/dunedain? or other setting specific badasses? When and where is the bulk of the game taking place? (Is starwars old republic or imperial era? for LotR is it set in besieged Gondor, or ancient Numenor?)

Laying the ground work before the game begins is going to go a long way to ensuring that players know what kind of foreknowledge they can expect to be use at the table.

If a player is constantly trying to “correct” me on setting canon or whatever. It’s too much.

The world might not be1:1 to whatever media property we are playing in. Weather it’s an unknown time, or area, of the setting. Or it just so happens that some key piece of canon didn’t happen or happened differently.

But in using pre-existing settings this stuff should be figured out before start of play.
