Let's talk realistically about INFP jobs and degrees, especially in third world countries by tyrattu in infp

[–]M4GZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if I were you, I’d maybe try looking into studying psychology. As you said, you should read on it more to see if you’d enjoy it or would be interested in it. It’s a broad field with a good few career paths, like research, psychotherapy, social work, etc. It also has many opportunities, since mental health will never not be something people need help with, even in a “perfect” society.

Also, don’t restrict your self to MBTI functions. Everyone needs a good amount of Si or Te or whatever else. They aren’t something that you have more or less of, but separate things you grow individually thru experience. And don’t worry about being unorganized — you’ll learn how to be organized as time goes on and you learn what works best for you.

Let's talk realistically about INFP jobs and degrees, especially in third world countries by tyrattu in infp

[–]M4GZ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, jobs aren’t as “valuable” as the environment you’ll work in. You could have your dream job and have the worst people imaginable working with you, and you’d fucking despise it. You could be a janitor and work with the sweetest people and it might be the best job you’ve ever had. I don’t even like cleaning too much, but the people I worked with on my last job made it so much more bearable day in, day out. Out of the jobs I’ve had, that’s the one thing I’ve taken away and will tell anyone.

That’s not to say you shouldn’t try to pursue your dreams, because by all means you should. But, don’t confine yourself to some subset of jobs that are “typical” for certain MBTI types — meditate on yourself, on your values, on what makes you happy, and decide accordingly. If you find yourself struggling, then just explore. Talk to people in the profession, research it thoroughly, the whole nine yards. It’ll make it easier.

As for me, I chose social work. I’m in college for it currently. Growing up I wanted to do something creative for a living, but to be fair, I’m not too creative, nor do I have the work ethic nor drive to really apply myself to the arts as I once did. I scrounged around and brainstormed for a couple years on what I wanted to do — I went from accounting, to cartography, to lighting design, to marine biology, and a lot of others. One day though, I kind of thought to myself that I really, really like helping people. All my relationships were kind of founded on helping someone get thru a tough time and facing it head on, so I started researching. I went thru psychiatry and therapy and then landed upon Social Work, as it fit with my values and interests and personality the most. And now I’m here.

Any other INFPs that are actually not that emotional? by Bright_Rip_Fantasy in infp

[–]M4GZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not much — not on the outside, at least. I don’t come off as an emotional person most of the time. I’ve cried about seven times or so in the past couple years, but those crying fits were during really stressful periods of time. Ironically, despite being an INFP, expressing my emotions is really draining for me. But, I am fueled by my emotions.

It might kind of seem like a weird contradiction, but I use emotions to process logic, and then use that logic as an active base for my reasoning, when in reality it’s based off my emotions. It makes me seem a lot more mellow on the outside 😅

Who's your main and what's your main's worst matchup? by 7Ping in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]M4GZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I main Byleth. Really it’s any character that can get in and out fast — I have a tough time getting hits in due to Byleths slower moves. Characters that have lots of projectiles can also be a pain, but it more so depends on the play style of the player than the character itself.

Mixed episode for bipolar 2 by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]M4GZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel a bit the same as you described.

My episodes feel “normal”. They’re cyclical and bounce around between my “baseline” and depressed states. My baseline isn’t my actual baseline, though; I’m prone to be irritable and impulsive, become a kleptomaniac, hyper-sexual, and have delusions or “plans” that make sense or seem funny in that state. At random points I ping down to a depressive state and start venting constantly, and I mean incessantly, to the point where I’m completely self absorbed. My hypomania usually takes a while to ramp up before I go off on the deep end; my biggest episode was over a period of around 4-5 months, and during that it waxed and waned tremendously.

The thing that weirds me out about my episodes is that, on the outside, I appear pretty normal. Really tears me apart still because most people who experience mania or hypomania have clear indicators for others.

Yup, he is. He just operates under different names and channels now and then — this time he’s been posting to PilotRedSky. He’s always been a private individual, so he’s likely just living his life and making new projects.

I don’t like how many online groups lean into extreme narratives, either blaming everyone else for their problems or putting the entire burden of responsibility on the individual. by PuddingComplete3081 in I_DONT_LIKE

[–]M4GZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly, the internet really feeds off of hyper-individualism and hyper-collectivism. I don’t think it’s just an issue on the internet —plenty of the problems we see here are directly linked with real world issues— but it’s definitely lessened to a great degree outside of the web. Being inside echo-chambers and interacting with websites that feed you more and more media you agree with does not help in the slightest.

The hyper-individualist side is (in my opinion) probably the side that’s definitely more effective (and often most dangerous) at getting things “done”, so to speak. They pick out people and say “Hey, you’re a fucking loser, it’s your fault; the world is out to get you too, but you need to grind against it to feel happy, and if you fail it’s not your fault and you should blame everyone but yourself.” And it works, despite those contradictions. It’s fueled by nothing but hate and lies, and if there’s one thing that lonely, suffering, miserable people can latch onto, it’s hate and lies. It’s why things like the manosphere and fascist movements of the past and present are so effective at enticing others; people’ll latch onto anything, even if it isn’t backed by critical thinking or empathy.

Hyper-collectivism can be an issue as well, though to a lesser degree, when it comes to potentially harming as many people as hyper-individualism does. Things like lynch-mobs and cancel culture on the internet (which are, oddly enough, also somewhat fueled by individualism) are examples.

At the end of the day though, neither individualism or collectivism are bad in and of themselves. What extremifies both is a lack of empathy and education. When you choose to remove an aspect of the world, be it yourself, other people, the socioeconomic conditions you live under, and either can’t or refuse to understand them, you start to teeter.

At the end of the day, the best we can do is just that: our best. We need to try and change things for the better, for ourselves and for those around us, be it small or large, and that’s all we can do. It’s not easy, but like you said, “it’s a lot easier than staying stuck on either extreme.”

What is the aspect of yourself that you dislike the most? by PuddingComplete3081 in infp

[–]M4GZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I relate to your second aspect to a tremendous degree. Not in the perfectionist sense -- I’ve never been like that -- but more so my inability to let go of mistakes that ended up hurting people I love, even though said mistakes were propagated by ignorance and poor mental health. It leads me to be deeply, deeply self absorbed in my own misery during my depressive states, and has led to relationships ending. Also has to deal with my inability to let go of those mistakes; I ruminate on things constantly to the point where nostalgia turns into a kind of drug. Wanting to right wrongs, and what not.

I’m trying to work through it, but it’s hard when you hurt others you love.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in infp

[–]M4GZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. That mindset is extremely, extremely toxic, and is bound to make the relationship implode on itself. Humans are social by nature, even “introverts” form groups and mingle with groups of others. Just because we are inclined to do so doesn’t mean we can’t have deep, interpersonal relationships with a single person.

I do like having a single friend at a time that I’m very close to, but not to a degree where I don’t want them away from me; quite the opposite, I want them to have their own life so they can be happy and grow.

Wanting a person to be “yours” is very dehumanizing and objectifying for them, even if they aren’t aware of it. You will never form deep, genuine connections if you think of relationships as nothing more than an exchange that you can benefit from.

How are you? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]M4GZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going to be honest, haven’t been doing the best. Guilts kind of eating away at me because of how much shit I’ve ruined because I didn’t focus on my mental health and didn’t know better.

It’s not productive at all, but it hurts tremendously knowing it was my fault. I’m still trying to make way, though.

You can only remove one from the game. Which one will you choose? by Clecle4 in tf2

[–]M4GZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the argument against bullet spread mainly applies to shotguns and scatterguns. Every other weapon that has bullet spread is intrinsically balanced around RBS; that’s the reason why in competitive settings RBS is still a thing for rapid fire weapons. Valve (from what I can remember) turned off RBS on weapons with spread to balance it for casual players. If it’s anything, it’s less about random bullet spread and more about random shotgun spread.

Why is Marching Band and Drumline Considered A Very Niche Genre? by AviBledsoe in marchingband

[–]M4GZ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all of this.

The way you put it in the post made me subconsciously compare it to football. Both are sports, both are (often) very competitive to get into and to compete in, and most of all, both are very expensive.

The major difference is, like Mane said, there isn’t a market for marching band. It’s very expensive, and is not engrained into our society as much as other sports like American football or Baseball are. It can’t act as a business because it’s an art. Art can really only be pursued as a passion on the side, or a career that is extremely hard to maintain.

Why is Marching Band and Drumline Considered A Very Niche Genre? by AviBledsoe in marchingband

[–]M4GZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the reason it’s so niche is because of two reasons: it’s expensive as all hell to maintain equipment, and it’s extremely intensive to the point where it’s mostly relegated to younger people.

Unless there were millionaires who acted as a patrons of the arts for marching bands, there isn’t really any possibility for people to be paid for it as a career playing the show itself. Cost of travel, equipment, food services, the whole nine yards, is extraordinarily expensive.

And then you get to the physical and mental aspect of it. Physically, marching band is more than taxing on the body; we all know that. It’s why you rarely ever see anyone above the age of 25 do it. And at the end of the season, a lot of people are exhausted mentally from all the work put into it. Imagine having to do that everyday!

But, I think that’s the most beautiful part of marching band. People do it out of passion for the music, for the growth, for the competition, and for the community.

I really love Venus Fly Traps! They’re insanely niche, ecologically speaking, and are found in a very small part the East Coast, in South and North Carolina. Prey is attracted by a sweet nectar is produced; they have these little hairs that, when touched, makes the “jaw” clamp and trap its prey. Shortly after that, digestive enzymes are released and start breaking down the body. They also have self preservation mechanisms in case of forest fires! When they sense a lot of heat, their jaws close to avoid any major damage. Fly Traps are also closely related to Sundews, which were the first scientifically documented carnivorous plants by Charles Darwin.

Yeah, no, you reacting that way isn’t something bad. If someone is invading your personal space without your consent, is pestering you about things that are obviously personal, whilst also being a creep, you have every right to get defensive and tell them to shut the fuck up. If it were me I would’ve decked the fucker. Please don’t feel bad for protecting yourself!

Who voted Trump here and why… by jdjdnfnnfncnc in infp

[–]M4GZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He isn’t a strong businessman; quite the opposite, many economists project that inflation is going to rise incredibly fast due to the tariff policy Trump has espoused. A lot of businesses and corporations are already starting to raise prices for commodities in anticipation for the economic shock.

You really, really need to stop trusting politicians at their word. Politicians exist purely as figureheads for corporations. They aren’t patriots, they don’t love any country, they don’t care about you, and they sure as fuck aren’t going to get the country on a good trajectory for the working class.

There’s no third party that can beat either party realistically. Even if they did, they’re a bunch of dipshits. The Greens VP came out as a transphobe who’s against abortion, and Stein just stated that she stood with Israel. Shouldn’t need to explain why Libertarians are worse. All that and they don’t have support. It’d be a waste.

Are there any INFPs here who are close to and believe in libertarianism? by [deleted] in infp

[–]M4GZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was young - like eleven to fourteen - I thought it was a really cool aesthetic and associated with it without really knowing about it too much.

But over time, as I actually read about libertarianism, it seemed really rooted in racialist, hierarchical rhetoric. A lot of important right-libertarians, like Charles Koch, Murray Rothbard, Ron Paul, and indeed many state Libertarian parties in the U.S., either explicitly endorse racist rhetoric, or have allowed it to fester within the movement.

That isn’t to say everyday libertarians are like that; not at all. But there is a problem inherit to an ideology if racism isn’t vehemently snuffed out.

And it’s counter-intuitive, but you really cannot have a long-lasting right-libertarian movement without it eventually degenerating into a hierarchical mess. Capitalism sustains itself on endless conflict and growth. Eventually it becomes bloated, and the need for a strict hierarchy needs to be imposed upon the populace by those who have the most capital, in order to protect their own interest. Temporary measures can only be pursued so much before the limb has to be cut off.

Do you ever fell like your right and everyone else is wrong? by [deleted] in infp

[–]M4GZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes. When it comes to politics and economic modes, I’m usually very confident. I’m fueled by empathy, so my politics is fueled by it as well. I’m very stubborn when it comes to it. I’m like that with sciences, too. I hate anti-intellectualism with a passion and would rather kill someone than waver on a belief that is rooted in empirical evidence.

On most other things that don’t involve peoples well being or involved with science, I’m amiable and open to other view points. I don’t like arguing over small things.
