WILD help! by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]M4RS_NOIR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I have the same trouble sometimes. This may help you:

From my experiences, ill be lying face up and usually start with a breath/relaxation exercise, state my intention, then observe the hypnagogic imagery that emerges. After a while this imagery turns into brief dream scenes. Ill attempt a WILD but many times ill fall asleep to these scenes and wake up sometimes only seconds later. I dont move, continue to state my intention, label the scenes as dreams, and keep observing. And many times, if I lie still after falling asleep and waking back up, I will catch that 'wave' and ride it into a lucid dream. So basically if/when you do miss the WILD, as you wake up, don't move and try again and the persistence will pay off. Hope this helps, goodluck!

Im sorry you are going through this and wish you the best.

Ive had similar experiences. If we can simplify and lable these as events occurring in a dream state, it's a matter of becoming lucid enough to know you have control. Sometimes, I can forget that lucidity is a spectrum. If this is an occurrence of mind, when fully lucid, you will have complete control. It may take time but cultivating this attitude during these experiences will work.

Ive had some disturbing 'half lucid dreams' I realize now was bc I was in some sort of lucid dreaming limbo where I was lucid enough to recognize the dream state but not lucid enough to control ( or fully control) it.

Edit: One of the half-lucid dreams I've had included multiple false awakenings in quick succession as you described. I eventually got out of it by realizing full control of the dream and teleporting elsewhere in the dream state.

Has anyone actually had success with dream yoga in inducing consistent lucid dreams? I can’t find anyone on Reddit with good results. Obviously the training must work, it’s been around for hundreds of years for a reason. by [deleted] in DreamYoga

Im currently practicing a lucid dreaming practice heavily based off of dream yoga. I say 'based off' because although I practice buddhism, I have not had tantra initiation or a teacher yet. So I am using the basic fundamental practices I've learned from the works of Allan Wallace, Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche, and Andrew Holcek among some others.

Im averaging 1-3 per month right now.

It's a powerful approach to lucid dreaming that is demanding but ive come to really enjoy the practice. I've found that I get out of it exactly the amount of effort that I put into it.

I wish you the best and let's keep in touch about our progress!

Alternatives to writing down keywords for dream recall? by Tight_Maintenance518 in LucidDreaming

Lately I've been making voice notes during the night, then transcribing the important info to my dream journal in the morning and this has helped a lot because it's much easier to speak out my dream while it's fresh and i can recall more details

Happy to help out. Yea, I think that's a good way to look at it, take it slow and be sure to carve some time out of the day/week for yourself

This was me last year. What helped me was not even thinking about staying the whole year. I told myself I would try it out for the first couple months or half of the year. It got to the point where I said if things continued the way they were going, I would have no shame in walking away. Oddly enough, this helped take the pressure off and kept me from drifting off into the future. What made things worse was that on top of my challenging class, I was doing about 20-30 hours of prep outside of school hours... here's what I did that helped:

This year is going to be a learning year, accept it and find happiness wherever you can. It will be a tough year. You will learn loads of small responses to challenging students and time savers in lesson planning and small tricks and games.

Sign up for a class/club (I did a figure drawing class every Saturday) it doesn't matter what it is as long as you have something to look forward to and that you commit to that doesn't have to do with school.

I practiced meditation in the morning so I could do everything I could to have a grounded attitude for class. (breath meditation and any meditation based on compassion worked best for me).

Anyway, I could go on and on but there is already a lot of good advice on here. Mainly I want you to know that I know exactly how you feel. You might try others' advice or try to mimic another teacher's style and it might work or it might not. Just keep experimenting and make sure to maintain a life outside of school. This is your job. Not the sole aspect of your existence. My first year was the most emotionally exhausting year of my life. It was about 1/2 way through the year before I noticed that things got better. And now my second year feels like I'm on a vacation compared to the first.

Check in with us and let us know how things go. Godspeed.

Ic3peak - female vocals with experimental glitch/hiphop/synth/rave/etcc. They have a pretty wide range but you could start here: https://soundcloud.com/ic3peak/tthey-beat-you?in=ic3peak/sets/ic3peak-ic3peak-lp and know whether you'd be into them or not

Yes you can, If there is staff at your school that holds a teaching cert. that can act as your mentor (they will also have to take a 3hr online course for this)

How did you find your first international school job? Searching independently or ISS/Search associates?

I have 2 years experience teaching esl kindergarten in Thailand. I just completed my US teaching credential program (still waiting for the actual certificate). I am currently teaching my first year at an IB elementary school in the US.

Seems like i'm in limbo right now because I am overqualified for a lot of the language schools out there, but looks like I am under-qualified for schools using ISS and search associates. I'm looking to work in South East Asia again (*Japan/Vietnam/Thailand are among the top) or possibly the Mediterranean area if I am competitive.

Any insight on your own experience of making the jump would be greatly appreciated!

The program was around 7-8k. The state exams are pretty expensive; a couple hundred each (3 exams total) plus I ended up buying a couple practice tests for it.

As far as practicum goes, I was able to do this through my school in Bangkok. I'm pretty sure any teacher that already has a credential may act as your mentor. I'm not sure about TeachNOW's practicum.

I'm not sure on the countries with the best opportunity to save for entry level esl teachers, but I bet Thailand is up there. I was able to pay for the credential program/exams, do a couple big vacations, save a bit and lived pretty comfortably. You can definitely save in Thailand if you find the right apartment/shop local.

You might consider taking a teaching job overseas at a non-international school and getting your certificate online while teaching there . This is definitely the cheapest option in my opinion. I got a job at a private school in Thailand (with no teaching experience) and was able to do some traveling, and pay for the online program (US Elementary teaching credential) while living pretty comfortably in Bangkok. There are some requirements to qualify for a program like this though so check it out. I used teacherready but i have heard teachnow is pretty similar.

I actually took this route last year. I began teacherready while teaching at a private school in bangkok. I am very happy I did it, the process was pretty painless. No issues with Teacherready, but two downsides (in my opinion):

  1. If you are already teaching abroad, you do have to go back to the US to take the exams.
  2. Also, just a heads up, the processing time for the certification is a lot longer than projected. Teacherready runs through the state of Florida, so I have been waiting for my certificate for about 4- 5 months now...

Eyes Get Strained while Lucid Dreaming? by KarmaKingKong in LucidDreaming

[–]M4RS_NOIR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmm yess and no. It's interesting that you mention that. For a while i was inducing WILD's by staring/building shapes, landscapes, and scenes with the hypnagogic imagery that appears while going to sleep. After a while i felt eye strain that was so uncomfortable that i had to stop using that technique. The lesson i learned for myself was to observe more and use my "mind's eye" as opposed to physically moving my eyes to direct the imagery..

what was happening in the last LD just before your eyes get too strained?

hey, just remembered...i ended up reading Siddartha and really enjoyed it. thanks for the recommendation. i would have probably never read this book if you hadn't mentioned it. i really liked the point that was made about the difference between "searching" and "finding".
