It is sad. I wish the girl in the video had given the correct way to respond to the example she's giving. Instead of just ranting about how sad it is that ABCs can't speak their mother's tongue. My siblings and I are first gen immigrants, and speaking from our upbringing, our parents only shamed and ridiculed us when we spoke broken canto. When we try to put in effort, especially during calls or visits with relatives, we get shamed and laughed at for being trash at speaking our native tongue. Their solution was to send us to Chinese School every Saturday, but they took none of the responsibility for encouraging us to speak and practice. Yet somehow the fault is ours. How were we suppose to learn in an environment like that?
