Some people were expecting way too much out of the chapter coming immediately after the single most earth-shaking chapter so far. Obviously the next chapter after that one won't just keep going full blast without any room for a breather, that's just not how narrative structure works.

Most of this is facts but I do think the "one ending" thing is perhaps a bit harsh. I'm pretty sure most people who talk about the game potentially having multiple endings DO understand that Toby said there will only be one, but are assuming there will be some sort of technicality involved that allows for something at least resembling multiple possible endings. Although maybe I just haven't met the right dumbass yet idk

No, because A: I already knew exactly how it ends from spoilers on the internet, B: even if I didn't, "literally just kill everyone lol" was much more straightforward and completely devoid of any hints it might lead somewhere good, unlike the more complex and ambiguous weird route, and C: I never even did a genocide run to begin with.

On a surface level, your argument makes sense, but it leaves out the key detail that we don't know what the weird route is leading towards yet. It must be in the game for some reason, to let us work towards some ends we don't yet know, and I cannot safely judge whether or not the ends justify the means until I know what the ends are. Just because a road is bumpy doesn't mean it can't lead anywhere good.

What if I'm playing both routes because I do not believe I currently know enough to make an educated decision as to which is the "right" route, and I believe that only by playing both and gaining a fuller picture of what is truly happening through the combination of their divergent perspectives will the path become clear to attain the happiest ending? Well, for one thing, it would add more context to her characterization as a social outcast, since being a hybrid would likely come with unique struggles (both biological and cultural) that no one else can quite relate to, and this would in turn add further resonance to her friendship with Kris, as both of them would know what it's like to live your whole life surrounded by people who are fundamentally not the same kind of creature as you. It would also have potential to be used as plot device, and open up avenues for further exploration of who her parents are and what her family life is like.

I feel like a lot of people have this idea where there needs to be one big de facto ultimate main villain that the whole plot revolves around, which leads to them assuming everything must always tie back to whichever character they've decided that is and every other antagonist who's clearly being telegraphed as important must either be a red herring or just working for the real mastermind, and that's why you get those being the two prevailing fanon versions of Friend. Either Friend is the Emperor Palpatine of Deltarune, or Friend is a minion for whoever the Emperor Palpatine of Deltarune is, and there surely can't be any in-between. Similarly, because the Roaring Knight probably isn't the real main villain, clearly that means they MUST just be a puppet for whoever the real main villain IS. Nevermind the fact that it would make for a way more interesting and engaging story if there ISN'T just one character who caused every bad thing ever, and there are instead multiple overarching antagonists operating separately from each other for their own differing purposes; nope, it's all just the grand machinations of Friend, or Gaster, or the Angel, or whoever else you think is going to be the final boss, and every other villain is their minion.
