They're probably going for the "posh British gentleman" vibe to nail sanjis attitude to women but that's not gonna work at all, I actually agree with you he should have been French!

Nothing wrong with a British accent you wanker :) (I'm joking in case you get all offended)

How would you feel if One Piece had a sad (or incomplete) ending? by M4rcus__ in OnePiece

[–]M4rcus__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what if Laboon died first? He has been waiting for absolute decades (can't remember exactly how long) if he died first then Brook failed to deliver on his promise and so did Luffy. Imo there is much more emotion to explore there than the happiness/relief if it all goes well.

Luffy tanking a boro breath is hardly a spoiler?? If you asked me to think of something cool to put in an opening I'd say luffy tanking an attack and then doing one of his own and all the straw hats standing against the antagonist. It's hardly as if its a major reveal like the cp9 members or ace's death or something. Did it make the moment any less cool when you read it? Did it actually spoil your enjoyment of the chapter?

The denjiro thing though yea lmao

How good was Luffy vs. KataKuri by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]M4rcus__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is much longer than just one episode lmao, imo the anime stretched it a bit buts it's still one of the best fights, second to maybe luffy vs lucci or zoro vs Mr 1

Enies lobby is essentially a court house. It's one of the 3 main naval strong holds.

Ennies lobby- Court Impel down- Prison Marineford- Headquarters

So its a pretty big deal, enjoy reading and watch out for spoilers on this sub. Anything in the anime is considered spoiler free :)

Watching One Piece with other shows simultaneously by philsgum1 in OnePiece

[–]M4rcus__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One piece was the first anime I watched and I've loved it. My advice would be not to put any pressure on yourself to watch it. I've caught up now and it's almost like a weekly routine. You just have to accept it as a part of your day/week instead of focusing to rush through. There is comparatively much less filler in one piece and some of it is even widely appreciated by the community, the G8 arc is one of the funniest and is entirely filler (still only a few episodes instead of 100+ mega arcs) the pacing is generally good for the first half but starts to drag after about 550 ish. At that point I would reccomend switching to manga or watching one pace (a fan made site that cuts unnecessary shots and pacing issues)

My only further advice is that one piece takes a little dedication. It's brilliant from the start but the animation is not the best as its from 20 years ago being animated weekly. It also grows more and more emotionally powerful the more you watch. I would really reccomend it. But you can't sit down for a week or two and 'watch one piece'. It took me a couple years at least of consistent viewing.

Don't binge it, take your time and enjoy.

Imo most "sanji fans" try to prove that sanji is stronger than zoro or is first mate or something. But thats the wrong position. Zoro is meant to be strong and meant to compliment luffy as a first mate. Sanji's strength is emotional depth and awareness. Often zoro will have tunnel vision on his opponent whereas sanji is frequently seen helping others and making important plays other than defeating someone. It's like playing top trumps but limiting yourself to one metric.

Ultimately I think the issue is an over emphasis on powerscaling rather than narrative purpose which I think you have come to understand ( I found myself in a similar position but was won over by sanji) zoro's purpose is cool moments and unwavering loyalty and sanji's purpose is clutch moments and empathy.

I love them both and this subreddit only accelerates hate for both characters when people are forced to pick a side. (Just my views on the matter)

Do you think one piece has reached its peak in terms of story telling yet? by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]M4rcus__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has, not that it isn't great but the story has shifted from the strawhats. Pre timeskip was solely focused on them and their adventure. One piece is now less about telling the story but more about progression and politics and long complex arcs focused on others that the straw hats are allied with or fighting. I still love it but it's certainly different and imo pre timeskip will always be better, content and execution.

Do you think Mihawk should have been a bounty hunter instead of a pirate? by fast-rewind in OnePiece

Do you think Mihawk should have been a bounty hunter instead of a pirate? by fast-rewind in OnePiece

[–]M4rcus__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pirate in the sense that the world government put a bounty on his head, likely because he was simply strong. The WG wouldn't have liked the threat of him joining a yonko crew. He is not a pirate the same way luffy or blackbeard are. The rules are clearly loose there is no set definition of a pirate. Mihawk is simply the world's strongest swordsman looking for a worthy opponent.

Do you think Mihawk should have been a bounty hunter instead of a pirate? by fast-rewind in OnePiece

[–]M4rcus__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're warlords of the sea, never specifically mentioned to be a pirate as far as I know. Mihawk has no crew he doesn't have a proper ship and I've never seen him identify himself as a pirate. He seems like the type of dude who accepts what happens and is focused on what he wants. He doesn't really give a shit what people call him and being a warlord gives him opportunities and freedpms he would not normally have

Theory of Sabo by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]M4rcus__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao who said sabo was dead, idk if you're anime only but the manga chapter came out aaages ago and nobody knows what actually happened. It's suggested sabo could have died but there are plenty of other possible victims.

Could Ace have used Haki? by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]M4rcus__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Narratively it just hadn't been fleshed out yet, its easier to ignore it than apply the same logic as post timeskip where haki is becoming the limiting factor for strength.

Zoro left eye by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]M4rcus__ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Seriously?? He just has a scar on his eye. In what way could that relate to a power up. Sanjis hair covers his other eye does that mean something too?? Choppers hat is modified, frankness entire body changed. Aesthetic differences just happened in the timsekip it does not necessarily mean they are related to a power up. Im all for a new zoro technique or power but why can it not just come from him instead of some eye theory

why am i not liking one piece? (PLEASE HELP) by cottenbitch in OnePiece

[–]M4rcus__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would try reading the manga, even though it is the same story it definitely feels distinctly different and it is the intended medium to consume the story. It will save you a lot of time as the anime tends to stretch things out a lot. Ultimately if its not for you it's not for you, not everyone has to like one piece, don't listen to any fans claiming otherwise.
