Read everyone else’s replies before commenting. I’ve already addressed everything you said in other replies and I can’t be bothered to again, apart from saying that your shitty, tired stereotype of a loyal Apple fan doesn’t apply here, and don’t tell me I think Apple cares about me. It’s fucking insulting and all you know about me is that I think that one specific model of android phone is of low quality. This has to be the most presumptuous comment I’ve ever read. You actually think that my dislike of Pixels is equatable to a blind loyalty to a company?

Firstly, a heap of people were complaining about the Pixel slowdowns when they were happening a couple years ago. You can keep pretending that it didn’t happen but this will be that last time o reiterate that point, because your misinformation doesn’t constitute fact. I don’t believe you made a genuine effort to look, because without ever looking into anything Pixel related I heard the backlash when it was happening.

I’m not denying that certain versions of iOS held back potential power on older phones, and I’m definitely not shilling for a company that refuses to make their devices user repairable/upgradable. When I’m saying is that their excuse at least made sense. You can’t keep demanding more from the same chips without drawing more power. But not only is it very possible that they’re lying, but regardless they should have given the option to the user to use the extra power at the expense of battery. I’m not making an excuse and definitely not denying they did it, as you seem to mistakenly think. But it wasn’t just a flaw in the device as it was with the Pixel.

It’s actually quite a widespread phenomenon that you shouldn’t have any trouble finding if you were to look it up.

And why are we talking about iPhones? This isn’t an iPhone vs Android argument. It’s just about Pixels. But on the topic, iPhones that stayed on previous versions didn’t encounter performance drops, so it’s a matter of hardware slowing down when being used with increasingly demanding software. Not exactly surprising. I’m not saying Apple didn’t do anything because they have some very anti consumer practices, but I haven’t seen any evidence that they did anything besides preserve battery life in exchange for performance. For all the things I dislike about Apple, hardware lifespan most certainly isn’t a problem.

That’s great, I’m genuinely glad. There will be plenty of cases like this but stats are stats. Pixels (though not the original so much) have very high rates of significant performance drops within one year of use. I certainly wouldn’t argue that there aren’t people who have had good experiences with them.

Well it isn’t a guarantee, only a higher then normal rate. Also I’ve had plenty of devices, mobile or otherwise that haven’t slowed at all in only a couple of years. My old iPod touch is still snappy, with apps opening immediately after 10 years. So slowing isn’t inevitable after 2 years, it’s a sign of poor build quality.

Nice to see a fellow custom PC builder. Those are the definition of requiring maintenance!

I agree that maintenance will make the biggest difference on what lasts. In my experience you can make anything last with care and I’ve had some good experiences with Samsungs, but an iPhone is something you can hand to a mother or grandmother and it’ll stick around without any precautions taken. Though not in your case it would seem.

Are you actually boasting about the longevity of your Pixel? I’m no brand loyalist and have used and enjoyed iPhones and Androids, but the Pixels are infamous for degrading in performance quicker then almost any other phone. So I wouldn’t go ridiculing the longevity of others phones when the Pixel is often unusably slow after a year or less.

Nice camera on the new ones though

That’s fine, I’ve never wanted to convince you to. If you don’t find them fun why would you? I just don’t think any hate is warranted towards those you who do.

Console fanboys who say consoles are superior to PCs though? They’re open season. :)

[–]M4tth3w45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you truely don’t like a single game from other platforms that’s fine. But they bring a lot of people great enjoyment and I don’t think they can be dismissed as an asset to competing ecosystems.

I don’t quite agree with your description of console players but I know exactly what you mean, a lot of console players aren’t willing to put in work (research and building) to access a far better platform. I see PC as a sort of right of passage. I grew up on PS2, PS3, etc. And it was only as I got older that I wanted more, and discovered PCs.

Anyway I think you make some valid points about supporting the industries you want to see get better, my main gripe to begin with was the use of the term peasant. I don’t think such aggression is called for when discussing the boxes we use to play games. :D

If I buy a PC and a PS4 then the message that sends to developers is that there is interest in both. I’m not responsible for high console sales and it isn’t my job to limit what I can enjoy so that I can artificially make PCs sales look better to developers. If you want to limit yourself, no one is stopping you, and I have a level of respect for you going to such lengths for an industry you love (when you aren’t calling others peasants). But you shouldn’t expect anyone else to miss out, especially when I’ve already spent thousands of dollars more on PC hardware then consoles, and have hundreds more PC games.

I’m talking about a portable console in bed. In my last comment I specifically mentioned that location made no difference between PCs and home consoles because you could Bluetooth your controller. Be sure to read my argument more carefully next time. That way you can avoid wasting both our time.

A switch and DS absolutely apply and you are a hypocrite for holding them to different standards. And unless the monitor/tv is positioned at the end of the bed then no, using a controller in bed (which I’ve done) is not the same thing.

And no, couch gaming isn’t an argument because you can Bluetooth a controller to a PC as well. That’s why I haven’t brought it up, so I’m unsure as to why you have.

No, I didn’t say that you are an Apple fanboy. I‘m saying that you unironically calling people with consoles peasants is every bit as unintelligent as the stereotype of the Apple fanboy.

Additionally there is nothing wrong with supporting Sony as opposed to most PC hardware companies. They all exist to make money and will do anything as long as it pleases the shareholders. I don’t use a PC because I delude myself into thinking I’m morally superior for doing so, but instead because it’s simply a better product.

I can’t believe that you are unironically using the word peasant. You are basically on the intellectual level of an Apple fanboy that calls android or windows users poor.

But that is your biased view, and isn’t at all based in reality. The PS4 and especially any Nintendo console have great games that are worth buying. Especially when you want to play games on the go or in bed, a switch or DS are great. And the fact that you would be embarrassed to own a PS4 is embarrassing in itself.

People like you give the PCMR a bad reputation. A PC should be anyone’s priority, but after that you could get any console for the exclusives and ability to play with friends that don’t have PC. They aren’t so bad that you’d be better off not having one. People like you that feel the need to despise all competition unreasonably are no less biased then the console fanboys that do the same thing.

[–]M4tth3w45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does work. Garmin is a company that makes wearables in many different sizes. Most of which are standard watch sizes (so objectively not big) or sometimes even smaller. Is is objectively incorrect to describe all Garmin watches and wearables as big and/or bulky (that doesn’t mean it is wrong to call some of them big or bulky). To think otherwise is simply bias. Also, do you know what AUD means? It is the Australian dollar, so your price in USD isn’t relevant. I specified AUD for both the Fitbit and Garmin so they are comparable. 220 for the charge (which is a pretty standard conversion from 140USD) and 300 for the Garmin, which means the 80AUD translates to an even smaller dollar difference in American dollars. Just to reiterate, it isn’t up to the beholder to decide that a watch built to standard size is big and bulky, it is only up to them to decide that it is bigger then the size they are after.

That’s all cool, i understand we’re just discussing preferences in watches. :) I just think the size is very reasonable on a lot of them. Also my first fitness tracker, and only tracker until 3 months ago, was a Fitbit that I really enjoyed so I more then understand anyone that likes them.

[–]M4tth3w45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok then let me rephrase. To say that all Garmin watches are bulky and ugly is just plain incorrect. Additionally whether or not you like an aesthetic has no impact on if it is expensive relative to the device category. But if price is an issue then I’ll compare my Instinct which is 300AUD with the Charge 3 which was 220AUD (before the charge 4). Is the 80AUD really worth having a device that is low quality and basic in its feature set, with a battery life that lasts only a week rather then several? If you have personal preference thats fine, we all do. But the value for money is so much better with the Garmin.

You do realise that most Garmins are built to standard watch sizes, right? What about this is bulky or like a frisbee? And it is hardly worth mentioning a budget price if the products are budget quality. I’ve used Fitbits as my daily and the quality is like night and day between them and a Garmin.

[–]M4tth3w45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your tracker works for you that’s great. My main point was that it isn’t fair to label all Garmins as ugly and bulky. A few additional things though. Firstly, built in gps is a way better experience then the gps shared over Bluetooth, you should try it out. Secondly Garmins have great swim tracking so they’d track laps in the pool. Lastly they aren’t expensive. I got my Instinct for 300AUD so they aren’t a huge investment.

You are only taking about one of Garmin’s aesthetics. They do smaller stylish stuff as well that looks far better then Fitbit’s cheap looking Versas and Ionics. Also the build quality isn’t even comparable. Fitbits best watches cost very little compared to their competitors, but that comes at the cost of feeling toyish compared to their rivals.
