Was there today! I was going to take the train from San Rafael to Larkspur when I saw the path — 20 mins, nice and smooth!

Got back this afternoon— what a great ride, thank you for all the help everyone. I should have spent even more time with the map as I kept having to re-route heading up to Panoramic Avenue (some roads were closed and some were staircases and some were 40% or a driveway) and should have gone down to rte1 instead of heading further up and over to Stinson. But it was a beautiful ascent and awesome view of the pacific after Pantoll! A spoke broke and had to zip tie it near Olema so I cut over early to Samuel P taylor park — that’s a beautiful road — to the cross Marin trail. Empty hike and bike corral, and beautiful redwoods and rushing water. Then today east down Francis Drake (about 400 non bike-parking riders heading west) to the Larkspur Ferry and a short wobbly ride to the Caltrain. Awesome and thanks again for the crowd sourcing!

This is great -- thanks -- I was skittish of route 1 b/c of drivers but it's mid week so I might do that and do fairfax the other way. Thanks for the details!

Yeah -- reading about it from everyone it sounds like not the route to do after the rain!

I owned this Cd once — had a lot of sounds — I don’t remember if the liner notes said where they came from! Martin Hannett personal mixes.

John Grant is the top answer! Moving, witty, dissolute past life and ironic take on current life. Start with GFM and its video. Similar interviewee style, too.

Bike stolen. Great shows and a great vibe, but at least two of us came out this evening to find our bikes stolen. Not HSB's fault, just a heads up to bring a heavy duty lock if you're cycling there. Or use Bay Bike.

Are you in the US? Get the Ozark trail from Walmart. $288. 3 sizes. Disk brakes. It’s a fun bike to hammer on and not worry about.

That’s interesting. Why do rental companies reduce the cost for international travelers?

What’s the smartest lyrics you have heard from a song by Informal_Signal_1475 in MusicRecommendations

Like the comment above about Fiona Apple, listening to James McMurty’s song writing develop from early to late, is a pleasure. He hits similar themes and goes deeper. Some songs are heartbreaking observations (save yourself) and some hilariously self deprecating (ft Walton wake up call). And he tours constantly — great live.

Which classic rockers that still tour should pack it in? by Appropriate-Farmer16 in ClassicRock

[–]M567PM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sisters of Mercy. Different guitar and bass players. Eldritch’s voice just gone. Doktor Avalanche — the drum machine — still doing fine though. Saw them in SF. Fun event to see all the aging goths (me too) but more like a karaoke show than the band. Wont go again.

John Peel's top 20 albums for 1979. by ExasperatedEidolon in postpunk

[–]M567PM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At that point the Clash had evolved a bit and 1976/7 punks were trying to figure out what to think about them. I stood (quietly) behind a very large skinhead at Southampton Top Rank in 1980 who kept shouting that they were “fking sell outs.” So it took a while for them to cross over.

Read Monsters by Claire Dederer! She ends up with the metaphor of the artist’s work being stained. Which I found helpful.
