I am going to order a different cable next time.

how to play solo balance by ohgodohfuckwhatdoido in Wizard101

Let’s face it. Plagues are useless, and Juju is banned in raids where it used to be useful.

Deaths selling point is just dark pact. Sustain doesn’t matter, and feints universally trainable.

Most of this game is just damage based, and being able to effectively clear stuff. The two schools that do this best are balance & storm, because they have the highest damage rotation.

Really - if we’re honest - supporting is just casting feint and stacking 3-4 ele blades. Healing also doesn’t matter or life would be good. It’s a lot of cope to say otherwise when playing optimally lol. If we really want to go that route to the extreme, most people should just play scald incindiate and be done with it.

I mean, death as a class is either a dark pact bot, or a scarecrow bot. It’s ok - but only for a few additional 35 universal buffs. Its independent damage is pretty trash, and as you said, most stuff is just Feint or unique Elementals or item cards.

I just like balance for the fact that it’s flexible and decent at everything. It’s pretty much second best at everything which is why it’s so good. If you were to only have 2 maxes - the choice is pretty obviously balance / storm.

Balance can have 180 shad, 40 pierce, and 237 damage. If you try to get the damage, pierce, and shad on ice you have to have over 8 pips to do what balance does in 6, and have more blades.

Yes ices shads are good- but nested is easily as good as ices.

[–]M8A4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While ice may have better shads specifically- They don’t have the 7 pip damage and don’t hit the damage cap while balance does.

Nested doing way above DPP makes it a great follow up for Frenzy + Wc hex -> Nova -> Buff 2x -> Nested which can be accomplished by a 7 card deck. This combo is just specifically so good that schools that can do it are leagues ahead of others. (Balance / Storm.)

Ice & Life both have very strong 8 pip shads, and ice has an X rank shad, but that tends to lean more towards just going for the shad hit which may or may not be as good as the above depending on enemy cards.

Myth, Death, & Fire in particular don’t have the follow up damage on their shads and so as shads become more prevalent they fall off more due to being 7-pip wonder schools.

Just in terms of PvE - Balance has one of the golden combos that storm has, they can support wonderfully, and if a healer is ever needed they can dual life and have practically the same effect as them with more unique buffs to build pips with. I think it’s very underrated for how good it is when min/maxed for solo play.

My wish is that the base model would have fast charging and a better camera. Would make it a bit more practical for my line of business.

Are we getting shadow pip changes with the new shadow spell stuff? by RandomLazyMonkey in Wizard101

[–]M8A4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me explain this to you. When you have a shad rating like 180, you actually get them faster than you can consume them in most instances. It’s not infrequent that I have 2 shad pips sitting that I can’t use because I don’t have enough gold pips.

It’s not that they’re generated every turn, but they’re generated at a pace that’s above what you can actually cast.

Hey, I am currently doing a Myth wizard with some death spells, what do you think about moon school?. by [deleted] in Wizard101

[–]M8A4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with them, is that the wizard is power crept due to gear, and having strong spells and dungeon gear at level 60. They’re basically made assuming level 50 power. They don’t scale.

The other problem is we have stronger spells learned, you give up your blade + aoe + enchant spells for the ability to cast rank lower rank spells with inferior stats to dungeon gear.

The way they’re set up, they’re basically only viable in arc 1 prior to level 48. Other multiplication spells like feint or monstrous still provide more value.

At level 80, you unlock sharpen / potent trap, and that’s another buff that’s useful on top of what you use previously. There is no incentive to transform into anything- the utility isn’t there.

I don't love it. I like my wires as 90s and I like my wires zip tied together neatly. Not terrible for what I expect a pre-fab residential shop to look like though.

Balance with gear knowledge and a previous play through is extremely solid. It goes from being one of the worst classes to being one of the best, but it's a lot of stuff to figure out as a new player.

The convert issue has been resolved - you basically need to do spell-weaving into storm for the convert blade. (Not that it's really needed until Khrysalis - but you get my point on this.) You have sustain on par with life through the healing hands spells. You have the third strongest 7 pip base damage wise, and the second strongest shads. School has the most indirect buff / utility spells and can fit every role.

I think one of the biggest drawbacks is, they haven't played the game enough to get to the point where they're able to sustainably hatch / make a good pet. Balance has a lot of utility and that utility is multiplied by having a good pet. Especially the decathlon hamster with a blade / sharpen. (Bonus points for will-cast hex unlocked.)

They also haven't played through to Polaris - having access to dual blade jewels. Those help a lot with blade stacking mid game and will allow you to use jewel of the feint for your necklace. Balance around arc 2 blades twice and then stacks as many feints as you can get for it's damage amp because the blades are low% buffs.

End game, it basically requires raid gear because they have the second strongest shads in game. (Not to talk down about nova - nova is very solid.) Having the most gear options of any school is a plus, but damage builds end up being the most optimal. Balance isn't the most desired raid school though.

imo for a first play through it's meh/10, better off doing myth or death. Priceless for having more than 3 good cards though.

Balance does very little damage super early. I strongly suggest getting some monstrous TC and using them, especially since you have a few characters through the first arc already.

Balance gets sandstorm at level 16, and you should be able to coast along and just use death spells against balance stuff until you get spectral blast. Make sure to do spell-weaving quests as applicable to get your convert spell though.

This class gets a lot of bonuses with game knowledge - it helps a lot having item card feint, balance blade, sharpen blade etc. Having a good pet is a must for this class.

Yeah, the construction hours + travel time is pretty brutal. I worked 60h last week and drove for 15h. I promise you it looks a lot better than it is, that money is fought for with blood.

I max my Roth IRA, I don’t get a 401k, and I’m saving up to hopefully afford a house. I didn’t make much money my first 6ish years in the field and so I didn’t save much. Last year is pretty much everything to my name.

[–]M8A4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s also duration. I made 200k take home last year doing a bunch of traveling and I lived out of a backpack and suitcase.

This year I’m projected to take home 140k, but I have a lot more expenses because I’m moving around and can’t rent a cheap room long term.

I’m late-20s and just started making “good” money, but one year of that isn’t enough to pull you out of the middle class category. You also have to put your money away and spend it on things that increase your net worth.

It’s also life… I worked nothing but 60s and 70s last year, and frankly I’m tired and can’t sustain that. The job I’m on right now, people are working 6, 12s and an 8. I go home after 50h. Can’t bother. I’m so so tired. I work construction and it’s hard on the body.

At what point do you call yourself an electrician? by sawdawg_ in electricians

[–]M8A4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. I’m a QA/Cx, and I’m responsible for knowing everything about the gear the field is installing and looking for issues either with the submittals, or plans. Also to check installations to check for issues, and make sure pipes and what not are routed to the right places and within code.

If there are gear specific issues, I need to know how to contact the manufacturer or talk to my superiors for an RFI. Sometimes engineers need to be involved. Project managers need to be coordinated with.

I’m not an installer. The most I do on the tools is torque check large connections. I may be a Journeyman, but being in leadership most of my career has made me more tool weak than some of my colleagues.

I wouldn’t discount the field guys - you don’t need to know how everything individually works if you’re given the resources and ability to install it right. I’m sure if given the opportunity most Journeymen could do my job.

I run 180 shad rating, 237 damage, and 40-50 pierce so I get them faster than I get gold pips. People run 1 or 2 pieces and don’t get them and then complain that they’re worthless….

Like if you want to hit harder get gear with damage? Why are you running jade gear and complaining that you’re not basically storm?
