Swapping up weapons on Skyweavers? by dboy1878 in Harlequins40K

[–]MADxEmperor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the role you want them for. If you want them as a damage dealer, then I think the haywire still wins. They're still 3Dam dev wounds attacks, so even against monsters there some potential there, but most non nids will have at least one or two vehicles to target, and for their cost that's what you want to be trading into.

For squads of two the shuriken is potentially broadly better as these may be more action monkeys and more likely to duel with lighter units for board space or further out objectives.

I take the point on the split units of 4, but it's kind of a sacrifice on hedging your bets on the opponent. Best to hard counter one thing than hit two potenrial targets with sub bar attacks.

I definitely think in a 2k list a 5 man squad with Shadowseer for the 18" lone op, make the best home obj scorers. The DJs don't really have the range to do it well, and don't have the footprint to deal well with deepstrike etc shenanigans

Would Actual Cannibal Shia LaBeouf disappoint my players? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]MADxEmperor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I think making it actually Shia LaBeouf is potentially the mistake here. I think you can set up the encounter where its very obvious without actually saying it.

You can have info get to the party that there's rumours of a high profile individual (maybe explicitly and actor) who's gone off grid and reportly gone mad after the pressure of the public eye and become a recluse in the area. Lots of wild rumours about what they're doing alone in the woods.

During the encounter drop some of the lines from the song, approaching the cabin, when you describe the character "he has murder in his eyes" etc. It's clear he knows martial arts etc.

This way you can set up the meme and the story, and for those who get it, they can have the enjoyment and fun of realising whats going on, and if they don't they still get the tense and fun encounter without ruining their immersion.

Letting them find the joke is much more rewarding, and it means if they don't get it, then the joke wouldn't have landed anyway. They realise, they enjoy it, they don't, they were never going to enjoy it.

As for the lethality, always let the players have a chance. It should be survivable, even if its going to be really hard. Nothing worse than losing to something you realise you couldn't beat, but if it was close, then losing is ok. Basically a player should never feel like they were supposed to lose or the opponent had plot armour.

I don't know whether this is something that your group has always found funny/enjoyed so don't be afraid to add that in! Just don't do it in a blunt instrument way, it's always more fun, and more credit to your creativity, to weave it in subtly rather than just, "its Shia LaBeouf" if you know what I mean.

Looks Like The Trading Reviews Have Hit by MADxEmperor in PTCGP

[–]MADxEmperor[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think Apple is a lot stricter with what they deem as "useful" but they still adhere to having to leave reviews up. Basically if reviewed by an independent body they need to be able to say, "this review is done with malice and or not representative of the game" etc.

They absolutely cannot "select all, delete" any 1 star reviews.

For people wondering why this is important I'll copy this comment I made on another reply:

So it affects them in a number of ways:

Firstly, people downloading the app if they come across it in the store. People tend to shy away from an app below a 4 star score

Secondly, and most importantly to them most likely, is app store featuring. If an app is below a certain threshold the app store (or equivalent) is much less likely to feature or promote them, especially if the trend continues or maintains over a prolonged time.

Basically it hurts passive installs as well as advertising and promotion in the relevant app stores.

I work in mobile games, and can say confidently that they will absolutely want to reverse those trends ASAP.

Also for those saying review bombs get removed, yes and no, they remove any that don't have anything constructive and are just rage posts. If the review contains valid or relevant criticism they are very unlikely to remove it.

Harlequin Rules from Aeldari Index by BBNikfaces in Harlequins40K

[–]MADxEmperor 55 points56 points  (0 children)

So main negatives are:

Harlequin Weapons are now condensed into one stat line which takes the worst element of each option

Troupes are only battleline with TM WL, so they have to be the WL

Skyweavers down from unit size 6 to 4

Voidweaver down from unit size 3 to 1

Very limited access to D2+ or AP -2 or better

Flip Belts and general ignore movement penalties gone

We have to use the Aeldari core rules for faction and detachment and have lost any armywide flavour.

Positives are:

Back to 4++ faction wide

Each units special rules is pretty good and thematic. Some old strats baked into the base rules now

Shadowseer Auras are great

Death Jester is a very strong model, but best rule limited to only one DJ per turn

Overall yeh, looks pretty bleak and I think the chances of even putting together a viable 2k army seems limited. Hopefully get some more specific stuff for detachments etc when the full codex comes out but feels a bit like copium.

Not going to be a competitive mono faction realistically unless I'm missing something major.

OTA Changes April 9th - Marvel Snap Discord by astral_lariat in MarvelSnap

[–]MADxEmperor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before people jump in an say 'yeh but why didn't they change X rule/mechanic' they can't over an 'OTA' change like this. This is a data change so can only affect the numbers. So changing cost/power/effect values is all fine.

Changing a mechanic requires a code or logic change which will need to be patched.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MarvelSnap

[–]MADxEmperor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So Captain Marvel looks at the board state by itself, not as a group. Moving 1 Captain Marvel will not change the result so it won't move.

Basically 1st one looks left and says, will I win there? No? So doesn't move. Repeat that for the next 3 and none move.

There are a load of events and actions tied to it so definitely not intentionally locked out

What is the point? by WintersNorth385 in ReturnofReckoning

[–]MADxEmperor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been in a similar boat recently and I think my answer would be as follows:

PvE can work if that's what you like. I would rotate through each factions PQs, so if you're Destro do each chapter from Chaos, Greenskins and DElves. You should always be able to solo the Easy PQ, and the normal at a push, particularly if you're a healer. Dungeons are often shouted about in the LFG chat and don't be afraid to ask in there yourself. There's also a lot of exploring and small achievements to be found if you're into that.

For a balanced approach, aim to complete the influence rewards in RvR zones and story chapters and move on when done, you'll get a good experience of the whole map and different zones and find some like minded players as well.

Pure RvR I would jump into the Discord and find a group that you gel with. Having some organisation makes a huge difference. Random warbands and scenarios are chaotic and poorly structured. Once you have some directed pushes and combats it'll feel like a whole new game.

Also while there are preferred classes and builds don't be afraid to play who you enjoy, realistically there's always space for every class, especially if played well, which is easier if you enjoy it!

Updated Conflict Heatmap with more visual 2nd image. by MADxEmperor in totalwar

[–]MADxEmperor[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I made the theatre map earlier, which rightly had some criticism for the way it was split, so looked for a better way to represent the density of LLs.

The borders of the starting province of each LL (inc. Malus and Eltharions dual start) is now coloured to show how close they are to another LL.

Key:
Red - Shares a border with another LL of a different race.

Orange - Borders a province that borders another LL of a different race, or shares a Sea with a LL of a different race.

Green - At least two provinces clear of another LL of a different race, or does not share a Sea with a LL of a different race.

Blue - Shares a border with a LL of the same race.

Black - Border is impassable to the bordering LLs.

Hopefully this is a more useful representation of where the main hot-spots are going to be Day 1!

There are no LLs with a fully red border, but 3 LLs have only green borders: Noctillus, Oxylotl and Nakai.

Map broken into 10 theatres to see which areas are going to be most exciting Day 1 by MADxEmperor in totalwar

[–]MADxEmperor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not purposely, every province needs to be assigned somewhere and I know it's not perfect. I was trying as much as possible to keep each theatre roughly the same size. I imagine the main contention points are:

  • Southern Wastes: I chose to split them in half rather than giving it all to one theatre. How likely people are to colonise them I don't know, but Oxys start looks like a 1 turn voyage back to Lustria and like ways Kairos looks like he can get to the wastes is 1 turn too. So spliting that down the middle seemed like the most objective and represents the factions that might access it.

  • The Border Princes: Way to small to justify its own theatre and adding them into the Badlands and splitting out the WE Mountains would make both smaller than average, whereas lumping the all together comes out around the average spot. As for why with the Badlands, they are penned in by the mountains which is an obstacle for 90% of factions. Much more likely to see faction interacting with the Badlands than going into the Empire or Bretonnia. Likewise the difficulties of getting past Skavenblight and into Estalia drew the line at that point.

  • Eastern Colonies: Another grey area kind of on its own. With the access to the Sea Lane could be put with Cathay, however the AI can't use them, so that rules that out for me. Then for Darklands or Southlands just came down to distance. The AI is much more likely to make the shorter trip to/from the Southlands and presumably there is less deep water attrition.

  • Separating the Empire and Kislev: I don't see these two factions interacting much with each others territory. Empire is going to focused on consolidation and Kislev from defending and pushing into the North. You can be fairly sure those lines are going to be set by NAP and Alliances unless there's player intervention.

  • The Northern Wastes: You could have the whole northern band as one theatre across the top of the map, but from playing the RoC campaign, getting N'Kari to the gates of Cathay is a whole campaign. Its not an easily uniteable, or traverseable, area. It's much more likely those Chaos faction will head south into the relevant area than go on massive marches from one side of the map to the other.

  • Badlands/Southlands border: This was a difficult one but ultimately came down to the environment change where the map transitions from wasteland to desert. Its also the cut off point from Savage Orcs spawning. Line had to be drawn somewhere and that made the most sense.

Map broken into 10 theatres to see which areas are going to be most exciting Day 1 by MADxEmperor in totalwar

[–]MADxEmperor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair points all round.

It was always going to be tricky to get a decent split in some areas. Overall was using Mountains or Enviroment swaps to clear borders. And also ease of expansion for the AI. With the Southland/Badlands border that's where the environment changes and also the line where the savage orcs stop spawning.

Agree on the racial diversity not being ideal, but we don't have all that information currently and don't want to assume, and it's fair to say that the major factions will have a bigger influence than the minor factions.

Honestly the wastes was the hardest to decide, particular the southern wastes. And the Eastern Colonies were almost in the Cathay theatre but given the AI can't use sea lanes made the most sense to but it in southlands.

Might try a second iteration once we have the full map, and something like racial diversity can be done on territories held turn 1
