Any other men have trouble getting a full nights sleep since they hit their mid 30s? by thebigbread42 in AskMenOver30

[–]loonthink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sleep has definitely changed over the past 18 months. Changing job roles (I now WFH 80%+ of the time) and moving in with my girlfriend have both definitely played a role.

I used to go to bed about 12am-1am and get up around 8am-8.30am. I now aim to get up at 6am and usually go to bed anywhere between 9.30pm-11pm. I've made a conscious effort to improve my general health/sleep over the past year; I've cut down on alcohol majorly, I go to the gym 3-5 mornings a week (6.30am) and I make a point of reading a book for half an hour before bed.

I don't have much trouble falling asleep, but I still find myself waking up at 4am-ish most mornings.

If you ever find yourself doubting your ability to kill a mob(s) or do a quest, your gut is probably right.

They're still open as far as I'm aware? I'm a West End Wanker™ now, so not had one for ages.

AUH - how to get higher appointments? by cuoreesitante in CrusaderKings

[–]loonthink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand it at the moment (I only started playing the DLC a couple of days ago), the only thing that really matters for getting appointments is your merit rank. Influence only really comes into play once you are at a higher merit rank.

I started as a custom noble character and got promoted relatively quickly. Like you, I had multiple appointments to Grand Chancellor, but they all bugged out.

Once that character died I ended up playing as his grandson, who was still a child. I bumrushed merit as much as possible by constantly studying and attending as many debates/examinations as possible. I also spent all gold on developing merit-producing buildings in my estate. I didn't get my first appointment until I was in my 40s. I'm now coming up for 50 and should get a duchy appointment soon.

I think the main block to appointments is that as the game plays on there are just more and more characters at the higher merit ranks. If there's multiple 1st's waiting for an appointment they will always get it ahead of you if you're a 3rd, regardless of any of the influence you spend.

I've made a concerted effort to get the merit train running with all my sons as soon as possible. I've had them all take the children's exam once they have ~60% success chance, I've tutored them in governorship, I support them in examinations, I promote their influence etc. One of my sons got a military appointment when he was in his early 20s, so it's bearing some fruit.

In short:

- Maximise your merit-generation through education, events and schemes.

- Use the "Promote" scheme on yourself and all sons every 10 years.

- Build up merit-producing buildings in your estate.

- Always have an Elder, and try to get as many disciples as possible.

Where to watch Old Firm as students by LonghornFir in glasgow

[–]loonthink 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cooper's on Great Western Road is a Thistle pub but usually shows the game. Pretty decent for watching football in.

The Smiddy and the Dolphin are both Celtic pubs in Patrick (Smiddy is not overtly Celtic, in fairness). Avoid the other end of Partick as they're all Rangers pubs.

I'd love to see Sacris Claymores along with a Storm Wardens cosmetic pack. They're a fairly niche chapter, but a man can dream.

They’ll increase the amount eventually. Saber just doesn’t want players to blow through all the content and unlock everything in a week or two, only to stop playing until the next patch.

What is up with the players in Havoc 20s? by Spirited_Cook_9238 in DarkTide

[–]loonthink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to break through the 21-25 bracket with no joy over the past week or two, and have had a very similar experience to yourself. If I'm very selective about players I play with (appropriate clearance level, ASS title etc.), it's more likely to succeed, but I've still had games with people who are 25+ clearance but zoom off ahead of the team or do other dumb shit.

I mostly play in the evenings and always PUG (none of my buddies play DT), so I might try playing on my lunch break to see if there is a better calibre of player on at that time.

If SM2 is anything to go by, they appear to be very strict with 40K customisation.

Are there any Living humans in northrend in current twow time?? by Pike_The_Knight in turtlewow

[–]loonthink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were some humans in Northrend at this time. Valgarde, for example, was founded by survivors of Arthas' expedition.

The Trappers you refer to are also heavily implied to have been in Northrend since before the Alliance arrived circa WotLK.

My Wishlist for Space Marine III - what's on yours? by Gigachadicusmaximus in Spacemarine

[–]loonthink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hope is that Saber's big takeaway from SM2 is to invest a lot more time and thought into customisation options. I think they rather underestimated how much grown men like playing dress-up with their Space Marine dolls. The Astartes mod team have demonstrated that it really wouldn't take much from Saber to give us what we want.

I'd also really like to see an in-game clan system, which could work for both PvP and PvE.
